A father in central China has been refused permission to name his son '@'.
The dad wanted to name his son after keyboard character that appears in every email address, arguing it was now in common usage.
But officials in Zhengzhou, Henan province, refused to register the name on a legal technicality, the Beijing Morning Post reported.
Under Chinese law, all names must be capable of being translated into Mandarin.

Imagine the misery this poor kid would go through if he was named '@' !!
I think all parents should think over and over before naming their babies. A name has a very big influence on the life of its holder.
Yeah! That's too silly really, but I think it's even sillier that the government doesn't allow the people to call their kids whatever they want.
..imagine the e-mail-address of someone called "@": at@lastname.com.
sometimes I think if some people had more sense of responsibility much things in our world would be easier to handle..
Before all this virutal stuff we thought about giving our children names fitting to our surnames. Do we nowadays have to think about giving them names fitting to our domains?
