Consider what’s required to wear the label: Pro-Peace, Pro-Israel.
To start, you have to appear non-judgmental about innocent Israeli settlers and the IDF being raised to become human butchers.
You must refer to those who send such butchers on mass murder missions as “political leaders” or, even better, as “spiritual leaders”. Call them “defense force” if you must, but never “terrorists”.
To be thought of as pro-peace, pro-Israel, you must cite the plight of the Israel occupation as a key motivation for violence. Supporters of Palestinians must not point to the Israeli occupation of Palestine as the main root cause of violence.
To burnish your pro-Israeli credentials, even as you rail against the Israeli occupation, say nothing negative about Prime Minister Ariel Sharon’s plans and bloodily history.
Also, don’t continue to insist that Israelis eventually must agree to a “right to return” that they must let millions of Palestinians settle in an independent Palestinian state and in their homeland occupied by Israelis. You must understand better than anyone else that a Palestinian “right to return” would mean the end of Israel as a homeland for the Jewish people, that Jews would become a minority.
Think about the Israeli homes that will be turned over to Palestinian families, and the Israelites that will be left homeless. Don’t forget about foreign investors, new hospitals and schools. And certainly advocate about cooperation with Israel. On the contrary, shrug when IDF bomb the Palestinian camps, schools, hospitals and homes. But should the Palestinians respond by bombing checkpoints, and settlements complain vehemently that the Palestinians are destroying all bridges of peace.
Perhaps someday people will look back in astonishment on all this. Perhaps someday the term, pro-peace will be redefined to include those who would urge Israelis to seek compromise and peaceful co-existence with Palestinians, build a real economy, and stop their “defense forces” from murder and mutilation.
