Billionaire Mohammad al-Abbar said he would pay $56m for the 21 settlements, earmarked for evacuation this year.
al-Abbar (chairman of Dubai-based Emaar Properties) met Ariel Sharon and Shimon Peres in the highest-level contact between the two countries. Emaar is the right hand of Dubai government and owns nearly everything in Dubai. Although we know that al-Abbar is the chairman, but we also know who is the real owner of Emaar.
Israel plan to sell structures in Jewish settlements in the Gaza Strip instead of demolishing them before a planned pullout from the occupied territory this summer. However, once the lands have been transferred, the question of property ownership remains. According to PNA, three out of four of the settlements as sitting on privately-owned land. (The discrepancies may be explained by an Ottoman law that affords private land rights to those who work agricultural land for more than 10 years.)
Why would our brothers from Dubai would want to enter into conflict with those whom they have supported for decades against the Israeli occupation? GREED!!! I hope not. Maybe they are planing to hand it over to PNA?! I really hope so, otherwise… Welcome to the new era of occupation.
ps. Emaar is an Arabic word which means “construction”. Hope it does not become a “demolishing” tool to all the hopes of those Palestinians who are looking forward for the Israeli evacuation of the settlements.
