The Syrian Blog Shock!

If you want to be notified the next time I write something, sign up for FREE email alerts or subscribe to the RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

On average, there is a new one or two blogs added to Arablogger.com directory a day. However, suddenly today I received a notification that there is 16 new blogs added.
Well, first I thought of spam somehow, but when I went to check them out, to my surprise I discovered that there are 16 new "Syrian" blogs added. So far, not too strange…

However, my biggest surprise was that when I checked these blogs, I found that most of them are fairly new, very new. Most of which of course is talking about the recent issue in Lebanon and Syria. A subject which I tried my best to avoid, but seems no more.

Apart from Syria Comment, 4eco and Damask Scenes, it looks that all the rest started sometime this year.

So, I wonder, is this a Syrian propaganda Intifada? If so, it's never too late, so best of luck!

Anyway, my favorite one is Ammar Abdulhamid - A Heretic's Blog (new too). A decent man, with very sharp notes.
Commenting on tonight's president Asad speech, he starts his article by saying:

A Mediocre Tap Dance!

Prelude: Fifty minutes of meaningless jabber paved the way for a five minute announcement that will almost likely require a couple of weeks worth of explanations and clarifications. Syrian trios will be “completely” withdrawn to the Bekaa Valley, in accordance with the Taif, and will then be withdraw to the Syrian-Lebanese borders in accordance with 1559.

And he closes by saying:

Anecdote: A brave taxi-driver from Kafar Sousseh, one of Damascus’s poorest suburbs, had anticipated that the President will be declaring his resignation today. He clearly overestimated our leaders’ sense of dignity. Our leaders might indeed be the product of traditional male chauvinism, but this does not mean that they are willing to abide by all the mores of this institution. Male pride has no please among those infected with the hubris of power.

Wow!! Are you sure you live in Damascus man? You've to be careful…

Sabbah, many of the Syrian blogs listed on arablogger.com are by foreigners who live in Syria or Syrians who live abroad. However, some successful blogging "attempts" by Syrians at home make me optimistic that the blogging culture will soon spread here. Thanks for a great blog and for the wonderful job you're doing at arablogger.com.

Propaganda? *cough* i'm not cheap, i'm free…..look's up to the Presidential Palace *cough* I mean, they do need a looooot of help: have you seen the ministry of information site!

I try not to mention my biases on the blog, but i guess you can figure it out over time. Big fan of Hariri and now Jumblatt, as unifiers. I support the Opposition Demos as long as they don't turn to America. A Lebanon free of Syrian, American and Israeli interference. As for Syria, I wish the US would ease up so Bashar so he can eventually liberalise Syria…….purleeeeaseeeee…..

It's not surprising everyone's jumping on the bandwagon - and that includes me. Syria's in the news, and everyone's got their take on it. I hope upon hope that saroujah.blogspot.com will eventually be filled with features articles, no more politics pleeeeeeease.

It's incredible reading insights from across the Arab world, and I wouldn't have found half of them if it wasn't for the arablogger.com site. So a huge thank you Haitham.

Hello sasa. Thank you for your comment.

I changed the word propaganda to Intifada. Maybe the word 'propaganda' is miss used here to describe the Syrian blogging mode now.

As for one being biased to side or the other, I think that is healthy and needed. However, quantifying who is on which side is the interesting part. maybe the days will unleash more Syrian blogs from both wings, the left and right.

    All the best!
