I think this is the best description I have found of Ms Binladin,
“So she’s an Arabian Paris Hilton with less talent.” Obviously this woman has not made it big in anything other than making a spectacle of herself which only her name allowed her to do in the first place.
If she were just an “average run of the mill female” she would be waitressing in New York or Hollywood right along with all the other wannabes. The ONLY thing that has gotten her all this attention is her name yet she says she’s ashamed of her heritage. Uh huh, sure, without it she would be a total no-body.

This discussion amuses me first I am MUSLIMAH & this is a topic on Waifa we are not discussing our religion so much but it is how she is talking about her own as she is. Ok she does not want to be Muslim that is between her & GOD. Ok she does not want to be arab but her father is Saudi & she is ashamed, ok. Their is the differance. If she does not like being middle eastern that is not her choice bc she is & we all are what we are no matter what. She has no right to talk about innocent people though. SHe is insulting all the Saudis the way she is speaking of the country & people. She lied saying she does not know arabic, SHE DOES trust me. She wants to be white so bad she can not stand it but she just is not. Like wafa farid said above their are many GREAT arabic singers. I am amazed that a very valid discusssion that was supposed to comment on the shenanigans of a young lady in new york who’s shamelessly using her bin laden name for self publicity (whilst lamenting that the name is some sort of a handicap in her not very successful musical/modelling career) has turned into an Iranian/Arab/Shi’a/Sunni debate!!!!

Surely there can be another totally different forum to debate an issue that is an eternal and never ending one!!

I also cannot believe some of the comments (including some from you Haitham) about how Islam was forced on to the people of Iran (and by definition other non-Arab Muslim countries) whilst people in Saudi Arabia had a choice!! If Islam was indeed forced upon anyone then surely the responsibility lies with the Arabs themseleves. However i do agree that the massive change in Iran, from a supposedly westernised society to a a deeply conservative Islamic one in a matter of days did have a profound effect on the whole region and yes large numbers of Iranians living abroad have totally rejected their Iranian/Islamic heritage.

Having now made added my “tuppence” worth of comment, i still think this discussion seems to have taken a very nasty sectarian, nationalistic tone and somehow does not seem to befit what is in my view one of the best blogs being published from that part of the world.
