A self-illuminating fabric merges tiny flexible optical fibers, originally developed for medical applications, & ordinary fabrics, like polyester & Lycra. It gives off its own light in five different LED colors, runs off of a rechargeable cell phone battery or a normal AC adapter, & can be used for place mats, table cloths, curtains, clothing & handbags as it is lightweight, pliable & does not heat up. the random sparkling effect is achieved by etching or breaking the fibers along their length to let tiny points of light escape. now, if it only would represent some data as well… [luminex.it]
