We appeal to activists everywhere to hold the media in this country accountable for not reporting what everyone else in the world is reporting. It's a shame that the following story is headline news in all of the Israeli media outlets and that not a single American newspaper finds this news item worthy enough to print. Call the media in your neighborhood both local and national and ask them why they have chosen to sweep this story under the rug. It should be headline news for all Americans that our Congressmen, Senators and Bush cabinet members were at AIPAC's latest convention to show support for the
strong lobby group which focuses exclusively on Israeli concerns. As the meeting was taking place, the government was planning to indict two prominent AIPAC members on charges of espionage. It is of note that AIPAC is paying to defend these two and denies any wrong doing.
Is this not a story worthy of reporting?

By Nathan Guttman, Haaretz Correspondent WASHINGTON – The U.S. Justice Department is expected to file indictments against two former senior staffers at the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) – Steve Rosen and Keith Weissman – and, according to sources familiar with the affair, the charges will be subsumed under the Espionage Act.
A Virginia grand jury is now examining the evidence in the case, which involved receipt of classified defense information from Larry Franklin, a Pentagon official, and its transfer to the representative of a foreign country, Naor Gilon, of the Israeli embassy in Washington.
Sources involved in the case confirmed that the Espionage Act is on the agenda. But there is also the possibility that the Justice Department is raising the intention to use that law with the purpose of reaching a plea bargain concerning a lesser offense, albeit one that is still covered by anti-espionage legislation in the U.S.
Presumably, if indeed such an indictment is filed against two former top-level AIPAC staff members, then Gilon's name will come up, even though he is not a suspect. Israeli officials say he was never questioned in the affair. Gilon heads the political department at the embassy.
According to the sources, the grand jury will submit indictments in the coming weeks against Rosen, the former head of foreign policy for the lobbying organization, and against Weissman, who was responsible for the Iranian brief in AIPAC. The grand jury is expected to hand down its indictment against Franklin this week. He is suspected of handing over the classified information. That indictment is expected to be similar to the criminal complaint already filed by the FBI.
The classified material is said to involve information about Iranian intentions to harm American soldiers in Iraq, and it was supposedly given to the two former AIPAC staffers during lunch in Virginia on June 26, 2003.
But suspicions against Rosen and Weissman focus on a meeting a year later, on July 12, 2004. Franklin was cooperating by then with the FBI, which had threatened him with an indictment after tracking his earlier meetings with the AIPAC men, discovering the alleged hand-over of secret information. He agreed to take part in a sting operation in which he would give the two information and the investigators would then follow them.
Franklin called Weissman and asked for a meeting to discuss an important subject. At the meeting, in a mall near the Pentagon, Franklin told Weissman that Iranian agents were trying to capture Israeli civilians working in the Kurdish area in northern Iraq. Around the same time there had been conflicting reports in Washington about an Israeli presence in Kurdish Iraq. Journalist Seymour Hersh of The New Yorker had written that Israelis were operating there, but Israel – and the Americans -denied it.
At the meeting, Franklin told Weissman that the information was classified. This is significant in terms of the investigation, since it prevents the AIPAC men from claiming in their defense that they did not know they were dealing with state secrets.
Weissman left the meeting and went straight to Rosen's AIPAC office at Capitol Hill. He said it was a matter of life or death, and that Israeli lives were in immediate danger. The two made three phone calls: to an administration official, to Glenn Kessler of The Washington Post, and to Gilon, at the embassy. Rosen told Gilon about the information and the Israeli official promised he would look into it. All of those calls were wiretapped by the FBI and are part of the case against Rosen and Weissman.
Plato Cacheris, Franklin's lawyer, confirmed to The New York Sun this weekend that his client indeed took part in the sting operation and said that the investigators appealed to Franklin's sense of patriotism to win him over.
The fact that Rosen and Weissman, as American citizens, handed information to an official representative of a foreign power while nowing it was classified is incriminating under the 1917 Espionage Act, which defines as a crime receipt of classified information for the purpose of helping any foreign entity.
The estimated 500 cases involving prosecution of this crime over the last 90 years have always focused on the accused party initiating receipt of the information and on the damage done to the U.S. as a result. In this case, Franklin initiated the transferal of information – and there is no clear-cut evidence regarding the damage done to the U.S.
Rosen, who was under FBI surveillance for at least four years, is now planning his defense with the help of high-profile attorney Abby Lowell. He does not want a plea bargain and prefers to fight it out in court, so he can prove his innocence and go back to work for the lobby.
A decisive factor regarding the future of the case will be the extent of the cooperation between Franklin and the investigators. If Franklin depicts his relationship with Weissman and Rosen as close, and one in which he was asked to provide information, it will help the prosecution. Rosen and Weissman claim that the connection with him was minimal and mostly involved trading professional assessments. (Franklin met with Rosen three times, and more often with Weissman.)
But Franklin is not believed right now to be cooperating fully and he faces two charges: one for handing over the information in 2003, and the other for the illegal possession of 83 classified documents at his home in West Virginia. The maximum punishment for each of the charges is 10 years in prison. If he cooperates with the investigation, the punishment could be significantly reduced.
AIPAC will presumably be discussed in the actual trials. But right now, at least, it does not appear the organization itself will be charged. AIPAC leaders have taken a series of steps to cut themselves off from the two former officials suspected in the case. Sources close to the case say the prosecution posed four conditions to AIPAC, which would guarantee that it would not be involved in the indictments: a change of working methods to ensure that such incidents don't happen
again; the firing of the two officials and public disassociation from them; no offers of high severance or anything else to make it appear the two quit of their own volition; and no financing of their legal defense.
AIPAC has abided by the first three conditions – and the severance pay offered the two was considered very low, considering the many years they worked for the lobby. But it is said to be helping with their legal fees, indirectly, through its own law firm.
AIPAC's decision to cooperate with the investigators' demands and to fire the two officials was made after it became evident that the FBI had tape-recordings showing that Franklin explicitly said that the material was secret. AIPAC's assessment was that it would be difficult for the organization to continue working on Capitol Hill, and with the administration, while two of its senior officials are facing such charges.
Although the inquiry is not focused on AIPAC, it is possible the organization will be dragged into the affair when the trial begins. If the two fired staffers are put in the dock, they will try to prove that they only did what was routine and conventional work for their organization.

I have seen from time to time updates on this ongoing story and investigation. Perahps it is not being reported becasue–alas, a shortcoming of our system–it is still under investigation and no trials have yet taken place. That the two worked for an organization, got fired from there when the case broke, and their legal fees are being paid by their employers says more about the place they had worked and the faith in their innocense, perhaps naive faith, than it does to not so subltly indict the entire organization.
But then yo seem to have an agenda.
What struck me was not the american msm silence, but the silence of the american left blogosphere. Only GorillaInTheRoom and Antiwar reported. Blogs such as Atrios and TalkingsPointMemo, pretty active in the Plame investigation went mute on Franklin. When Atrios eventually did mention it the comment room went full of noise so they could avoid the subject. The american left has become useless.

Do you mean like how the media ignored OJ Simpson, Michael Jackson and Scott Peterson (just to name a few) before their trials?
Come on, its obvious that the reason this isn't in the MSM is because the perps are Jews and most people in the MSM are loyal to Israel, not the US (just like most in the USG). Its the same reason the MSM doesn't tell us that the only people caught in the US with bombs and terrorist plans since 9/11 have been Jews.

If what Doug Johnson says is true, why did George W. Bush get only 24% of the Jewish vote? By almost any estimation, he has supported Israel more completely than any American President ever.
American Jews are not a monolith, and in recent years have tended to vote for candidates based on considerations other than support for Israel.
Americans support Israel for reasons that most of the rest of the world is unwilling to admit. First, Israel was our ally during the Cold War struggle with the Soviet Union, which allied itself with the Ba'athists in Syria and Iraq and Nasser in Egypt. Indeed, the United States was not a significant strategic ally of Israel until the 1967 war. Second, while America is hardly flawless in its treatment of ethnic minorities, we have never really had a deep strain of anti-Semitism in our society. Jews feel more comfortable in the United States than in any country other than Israel. The United States has far less anti-Jewish sentiment than Europe. This has been true since the 17th century, when the first Jews came to North America. This is why very American Jews have moved to Israel from the United States, but many have come from Europe. We therefore do not understand the hatred of Jews that is expressed elsewhere in the world, and when we see it we are repulsed by it. This does make us sympathetic to Israel. Third, evangelical Christians, which are a very powerful political force in the United States (far more influential than Jews), are huge supporters of the State of Israel, because they believe that its existence is a necessary precondition for the return of their messiah. If you want to search for a religious or ethnic basis for American foreign policy in the Middle East, it is far more rational to point to evangelical Christians than Jews. (By the way, this also explains why so few American Jews voted for George Bush, who is himself an evangelical Christian.) Fourth, the Palestinian Arabs have sided with the enemies of the United States at every opportunity in the last 100 years, since long before Israel existed. Palestinian Arabs sided with the Turks, an ally of Germany, during World War I. Palestinian Arabs enjoyed financial and other connections to the Germans during World War II. They sided with the Soviets during our long "Cold War" with the Soviet Union, they sided with Saddam Hussein in 1991, and they danced in the street en masse on September 11 (even if Arafat pretended at outrage). You might say that in each of these cases Palestinian Arabs had good reasons, from their perspective, to take the side that they took, and I would even agree with you. But that does not change the fact that Palestinian Arabs have chosen to side with America's enemies in situations that had little or nothing to do with Israel. Americans understand this, and it makes them unsympathetic to the Palestinian cause. Fifth, however tough the Israelis have been in the occupied territories, Israel itself is a raucous democracy. This does not make Israel particularly moral as a country — there are many great democracies in the world — but it does mean that Americans identify more readily with Israeli society and politics than they do with the monarchies and authoritarian regimes that oppose Israel.
Finally, I would observe that the Palestinian Arabs have not exploited a tactic that I think would have, at any point in the last thirty years (since the 1973 war), turned American sentiment against Israel. Had Palestinian Arabs adopted Ghandi's tactics of non-violent civil disobedience, it would have been very difficult for Israel to sustain its occupation. Imagine that in 2000, rather than launching suicide bombers, if a million Palestinian Arabs, holding flowers and not otherwise armed, had just declared their intention to walk to the sea and sun themselves on the beaches of Tel Aviv. What would Israel have done? If the Israelis had responded with violence, world opinion and even American opinion would have been horrified. Instead, Palestinians strapped bombs on to children and dispatched them to detonate in crowds of civilians. If there was a chance that Americans might sympathize with Palestinian Arabs, the suicide bombings put an end to that chance.
Finally, Sabbah, I should say that you write an excellent blog. I rarely agree with you on matters of politics in the region and your feelings about the United States, but your blog is both entertaining and challenging. Looked at objectively, it is one of the best of the many that I read.

It amazes me that people think that Jewish World Domination Conspiracy, from the Protocols of the Elders of Zion, a diversion tactic that Russian Czar spread to cover his governmental wrong doings.
Is there a lot of Jewish people in the media and Hollywood, of course, but the is a reason for that is the thousands of years of Jew hatred. Jews were not allowed to work in majority of occupations besides banking. The reason for banking was the Christian doctrine of not charging interests to other Christians. Loans were a vital part of any economy and if a Christian couldn't charge interests why would a Christian go into banking. The solution was the Jew. The Jew can make loans to Christians and charge interests, the cost of a loan. When loans defaulted and during the time there was a debtors prison the Jew became the money grubbing Jew. Think about it, does that make any sense, no, and if you think the answer is yes, then how would banks and thus a major part of economic system work. If a company/bank can't make a profit, there is no incentive to go into that business. If a bank just lets a person/company default on a loan, how long will a bank stay in business and if the banking industry collapsed there goes the economy.
As far as the Jews controlling the media and Hollywood again Jews were not allowed to work in many industries. Everybody needs to make a living so if you were not allowed to work and the only industries you could find a job is the media, entertainment, and financial industries that are where you would work.
Is there a lot of Jews that lean to the left politically of course. Why, because the religious right wanted to force their religion on everybody, thus the Jews were persecuted. Thus the liberal left was more open minded and tolerant to different religions, thus the Jews went left, and it makes sense.
There is a growing but small Jewish politically conservative right that for more traditional ways then the liberals are. In secular countries were opportunity is for all and welcome all religions to practice what they want and keeps religion out of the public, meaning the government, thus creates a Jewish conservative right.
Are there a lot of Jews in government, yes. Why, because throughout history Jews were not allowed to be in government and the governments created scapegoats out of the Jews for political reasons. Like Russians did by creating the Protocols of the Elders of Zion, a book about Jewish world domination that is so outrageous it is not only ridiculous but the people who believe in it are so sad, it is almost funny how people can be so stupid. Henry Ford spent millions trying to prove the book as true and he wasted millions of dollars, because you can't prove the ridiculous. The crazy thinking of that Jews and Israeli government caused 9/11. The Jews had advanced warning because they were the ones to cause it, not the mostly Muslim Saudi Arabs that were involved in the plan.
How can any country force its addenda on the US especially a small country like Israel, it doesn't make sense. People say well it is the Jewish money and political influence, which is crap. If it is about money, oil is where it is at and tax free Christian Institutions have more money then the Jews can dream of, so it isn't the money. What about the population? Jews are only 1-2% of the US population, so it isn't our numbers. The Jewish vote is not worth a lot relative to Christian population of the US. There is about as many Arabs/Muslims in the US as Jews so it is not the population. Think about it, if you and your people have been persecuted for thousands of years and now a secular system is in place open to all, why wouldn't you and your people try to get involved in government. Even if it is for your own and your ethic, religion, political, corporate, whatever interests. Especially if you want to be involved in a process in a government to feel more secure personally. It makes sense.
Another thing most Jews are very secular and don't relate to the religion per se, but as an ethnicity. Why, because Jews have been kick out of every country in the world. That is why when you ask a Jew what they are they will say a Jew, not pick a country. There is no country identified with the Jews, up until Israel, but Jews don't call themselves Israelis, unless they were born in Israel.
Israel came about because of the Holocaust. Jews wanted a place that they can live where they would feel safe and since in every other country in the world has not made the Jews feel welcome, thus the only people Jews could trust is other Jews. Make sense. What is the only country throughout history that Jews can identify with, Israel.
A person can replace the word Jew, Jewish, Hebrew, Israel, Israeli, and every other word and replace it with your background and it makes sense.
Why have the Jews achieved what they have, education. In a secular country where education is required for all, education can get any person out of a situation.
In a lot of countries Jews were not allowed to go to school or if they were allowed it would only be a "Jewish" school, or they couldn't take certain subjects or they couldn't go to any school that they choose. Why, just because for all of the above reasons I stated. When the opportunity came that Jews could be educated, they took it. As you know the more educated a person is, the greater chance for success.
Yes, many Jews are loyal to Israel, but if the American Jews love Israel so much, why are they living in the US? Because they rater live in the US, duh. Thus people who are allowed freedom and opportunity will want to live in that country that offers it to be grateful to live in the country and since many Jews live in the US (roughly the same number live in Israel) the American Jews would be loyal to the US, but have pride in Israel. Just like any other ethnic group feels pride to the country where they came from or their relative came from.
Most of the quote unquote Jewish power comes from left leaning liberal Jews, many of which have no nor want any identity to a Jewish ethnic group or nation. That the only reason why they have any Jewish identity is because there Jewish sounding last name.
Of course there are Jewish people of power that are heavily evolved in Israeli issues, so what, it is called pride and caring. Doesn't everybody care about people like themselves.
Now the notion that the Jews only care about other Jews is wrong. Yes, we care about other Jews, again Christians care about Christians, like Muslims care about Muslims, like Arabs care about Arabs, like Americans care about other Americans. Jews also care about the other people especially when there is need. Why? Just like anybody else, when you have been where the people are hurting are at and even when you have succeeded you do remember the bad times, thus you want to help the people that are hurting, it is the right thing to do. Again, when the rest of the world has imposed it ways on the Jews, forced them into horrible conditions, and kill them for thousands of years. When Jews tried to help fellow countrymen in need then to have the same people you helped turn on you, you wouldn’t want to help them again, it makes sense. When majority of the world has done this to you, you are a little less trusting and you want to help your own. Even so, what is not noticed in the "Jewish controlled media", which we know is not true, is the sheer giving to everybody in every country of need from the Jews themselves and in Israel. One of the three main factors of Judaism and yes I am meaning the religion not the ethnic group is charity along with prayer, and study.

The company's HR records (which wouldn't list a persons religion or ethnicity as Jewish) the list from the security system of the towers of the people that walked in that day, the names of the survivors from all government officials, and the list of dead from all government officials. Straw man argument. I never said Jews caused 9/11. I said that the only people arrested in the US since 9/11 with bombs and terrorist plans have been Jews – Dr. Steven Goldstein of Florida, who had plans to murder Islamic children and responding police, and Irv Rubin of the Jewish Defense League, who had plans to murder a US Congressman because of his Lebanese descent. That's a fact and one that doesn't mention all the Israeli spies that have been arrested near US military and nuclear installations, like the two last April who led police on a high-speed chase for almost an hour and tossed an "arson accelerant" out the window while fleeing.

You obviously know the answer to this already or would do what any normal person would do – look it up on Google. A prominent JEWISH ISREALI human-rights advocate, Dr. Shahak's book is based entirely on the pulic writings and proclamations made by the Israeli ruling elite in the Hebrew press.
As Dr. Shahak says, Israeli foreign policy is incomprehensible unless one understands that the Israeli ruling elite and the entire security service have a racist view of the world in which the world is divided into Jews and the evil and stupid Gentiles, all of whom want to harm Jews.
For the record, Organized Jewry is no better or worse than Organized Aryanism (Naziism) or any other organization based on racism. We stomped out Organized Aryanism 60 years ago. We don't need totalitarian, chauvinistic, militaristic people in this country, much less those who's allegiance is to a foreign nation. Especially when that foreign nation is a racist theocracy that denies basic human rights to its minority population. As Jesus said, a man cannot serve two masters. It is therefore impossible for anyone who holds allegiance to Israel to hold allegiance to the US. That means that Organized Jewry constitutes an enemy Fifth Column within the US, an enemy who consider all Gentiles to be evil, stupid and homogeonous.

No, actually it was the Zionist organizations that provided financial aid to the Nazis and offered military participation as well. Israel is a racist theocracy that prohibits basic human rights to its minority population. For example, 93% of Israeli land is mandated as for use by Jews only. Gentiles cannot use, rent, buy or otherwise interact witrh 93% of the land mass. If the US applied the same laws to non-Gentiles, only 1.5% of the US landmass, probably some desert out in Utah or Arizona, would be available for use by non-Gentiles. Would America be considered a Democracy if non-Gentiles were all crammed into a a series of small, ghetto-sized enclaves on undesireable land?
Gentiles are routinely harrassed in Israel by Jews. For example, last December a young Yeshiva student spat on a cross that a priest was carrying in an authorized Christian parade/ceremony. When the priest responded, he was arrested for "assault" and was barred from Jerusalem until after the Christmas period was over.
Israel acts now to all non-Jews the same way Nazi Germany acted in the 1930s to Jews. From immigration and visas to property ownership the apartheid of Gentiles is just another day at the office for Israeli Jews.
It seems to me that the line between race and ideology are blurred. Zionism is an ideology, whereas being born to Jewish parents does not qualify as an ideology. … We were not attacked on 9/11 because we were neutral. We stuck our big sniffer where it didn't belong, i.e., the century-long ideological Middle East civil war between Islamism and Zionism, and we got a bloody nose. We failed to remain neutral. Additionally, Zionists and their fellow travelers actively engaged in the subversion of U.S. neutrality. Given that, we should have on 9/12 announced a new foreign policy of strict neutrality by cutting off all aid and money to the Middle East. Nevertheless, the bombing of New York and Washington was an act of war requiring a reprisal. A napalm raid on Mecca would have been a groove, followed by a proclamation that any further violation or subversion of U.S. neutrality will be answered with the utmost brutality.
David, isn't the historical fact that Jews have been persecuted and expelled for dozens of centuries enough and sufficient proof that by teaching exclusionism and self-worship Judaism breeds hatred? What more proof do you want of anything? Even today it's easy to understand the testimony our billion ancestors made. What do they say about you? Can you listen?
Isn't history the result of a miriad of personal choices throughout time? Isn't democracy the result of a miriad of personal choices in a single act? If one believes in democracy one should listen history. If one believes in democracy one should listen the voices of the peoples of the past and respect their choices. They had common sense, not prejudice as you would have us to believe. It is you the carrier of prejudice. It is you the one who resorts to soft lies to hide your true intent. It is you who have yet to prove you can live among the peoples in peace.
I just want to thank Doug Johnson for being so entertaining. I have never read anything more absurd in my life but I must admit that your comments made me laugh. In a day and age when our news stories are so depressing a good laugh is always welcome. I love the line about Jews being the ones to have bomb plans after 9/11… I gotta run and make sure the explosive agent I was mixing is now ready! I hope that at some point, whatever "cool aid" you drank will wear off and you will actually be able to use true facts in your writings.
