(AFP) DAMASCUS - A 17-year-old accused of ties to a banned Islamist group in Syria was sentenced to six years in prison by a state security court on Sunday, according to a human rights lawyer.

Human bait: Accused teen in Syrian prison!Massaab Hariri was initially sentenced to death for allegedly belonging to the Muslim Brotherhood, “but the court commuted the death sentence to a prison term instead,” said Anwar Bunni.

Hariri was arrested on his arrival in Syria from Saudi Arabia and has been in prison for the past three years.

So he was jailed when he was 14!!

His mother was also arrested but was released some months later. Her son’s case was transferred to the security court, which operates under emergency laws in place since the ruling Baath party took power in 1963.

Hariri’s father is also wanted by police for belonging to the Muslim Brotherhood, Bunni said.

What threat could a 14 years old boy cause to Syria? Or is he a "human bait" to catch his dad?

Well, a 14 years young boy can do a lot.
But I think that a 14 year young boy here in the Middle East is way different than a 14 year “old” boy in Germany. Whatsoever, this little boy could have enforced the aims of the Muslim Brotherhood with a Lollypop which could have resulted in serious gluey situations if he’d used this Lollypop on a seat in a bus.
What a disaster this would be. Imagine what would happen if then an old lady would sit down on this Lollypop. Aweful!

Fundamentalists are not above using little children as suicide bombs. They are more impressionable and easy to convince. Hell Jail may have been too harsh but perhaps some psychological counselling would help?
