On January 1st, 2004, a small sailing boat has left the Straits of Magellan in South America, on board; 4 Israelis and 4 Palestinians. During their journey, they have crossed the wildest sea on earth, they have climbed on ice and glaciers and marched towards their destination, an unclimbed mountain, carrying heavy loads and sledges and roped to each other day and night.
Breaking the Ice is a non-profit initiative, established by passionate and enthusiastic citizens and business professionals. It is based on the premise that memorable oustanding experiences, beyond the average standard of performance, can bring people together for life. It is committed to the idea that these experiences can fuel a sustainable form of conflict resolution - because nothing connects people better than the shared experience of facing and overcoming a challenge.
During a four-city tour beginning August 24th, 2005, North Carolina Outward Bound presents an evening with members of the Palestinian-Israeli Unity Project. The Jewish and Arab teenagers share insights on what they discovered about life, compassion and each other while traveling, working and playing together during a wilderness expedition in the Appalachian Mountains. The Palestinian-Israeli Unity Project is designed to build understanding and unity among cultures in conflict. This exciting project takes Outward Bound’s Unity Project, to a new level. Join to hear stories from this ground-breaking expedition — from the obstacles they faced to their hopes for the future.
