Once again, UN fails!
UN negotiators are still furiously hacking away at the Millennium Summit's agenda, hoping to clear some of the reported 200 points of disagreement even as world leaders begin to arrive in New York. The centerpiece of the summit, the proposed expansion of the Security Council from 15 to 25 members, was scrapped long ago. The Millennium Development Goals and UN reform have also seen significant, if not fatal, last-minute cuts. Other issues, like arms control, are likely to be axed as well. But it's the latest item to hit the chopping block -- an internationally recognized definition of terror -- that best sums up the challenge of re-launching an institution freighted with sixty years of equivocal moral leadership.
We should all be saddened by news that the negotiators in New York have dropped the inclusion of a clear definition of terrorism from their reform program

There is no way that they will ever find a clear cut definition other that the one we all know and found in the dictionary. Why ?
Because one mans freedom fighting is always viewed as another mans terrorism, and that is a fact that is never going to ever change. One can provide all the justificatin he wants for his actions, but that isn’t going to convince the other man from describing these actions as acts of terrorism. It is sad but true.
Yeah, I think this is a waste of time. I think the way that most of the rest of the world would define terrorism would not be acceptable to at least one member of the Security Council, the US, if not more.

yes, except in this age, the dividing line is drawn by those who believe that the nation-state is the sine qua non of existence. In other words, to engage in ‘self-defense’, one first has to have a ‘national’ self. Where this prerequisite is not satisfied, one is stripped of a self, and, by implication, stripped off the right to self-defence. All aggressive actions are thus construed from this point on as ‘terrorism’.
As long as definition of terrorism takes place within UN building in Newyork under the influence of the US Goverment and other permanent Security Council members, there will be no just definition. As long as there is occupation of Palestinian terrorities by Israel and Iraqi land by American and British forces, as long as a Jewish baby who will be born tomorrow in America has the right to immigrate to Palestine while a Palestinian born in a refugee camp is denied that right, as long as there is greed by Industrial nations in stealing the natural resources of poor nations, as long as minotities are denied cultural and historical rights and self determination within their own countries, as long as all these problems remain unsolved we have to expect so called terrorism to continue and flourish.
