Israel’s defense minister Shaul Mofaz has ordered the army’s top brass to appeal against a supreme court ruling last week that banned the military’s use of human shields. Mofaz is prepared to make a personal appeal for the ruling to be overturned, arguing that alternative methods in arrest operations such as more widespread use of bulldozers would endanger the lives not only of Israeli soldiers but also of Palestinian civilians.
The supreme court last week formally banned the practice that it said violated international law.
