One in three people believes that women who behave flirtatiously are at least partially responsible if they are raped, Amnesty International report published in UK today reveals. A similar number think that women are partially or wholly responsible for being raped if they are drunk, and more than a quarter believe women are responsible if they wear sexy or revealing clothing.

And they call Muslims all names coz Islam is for woman entrenchment!

Wow, I can see how many people have never been raped or known a rape victim before. It is one of the most brutal, violent, shaming, destructive things that can happen to a woman.

Sabri, so a girl flirts with a guy, thinking he may be husband material, it’s ok to force himself on her. As she struggles and he sees the panic in her eyes, it is still ok? She still deserves it? Giving an invitation to her home is one thing, but flirting? Does every girl in Amman Mall right now deserve to be raped? Maybe you could unpack your response a bit?

I’ve heard countless stories of girls who were raped at 5, 7, 10 years old (usually by male family members), being told that ‘I can’t help myself, you are just too cute” or “I knew you wanted it”. Somewhere along the road the guy felt like he was entitled to take anything that looked attractive.

Despite the hijab, sexual abuse is just as prevalent in the Muslim world as it is in the West.

    kinzi,

While I agree with most of what you said, however, can you support this statement:

Despite the hijab, sexual abuse is just as prevalent in the Muslim world as it is in the West.

If you mean by numbers, appreciate research links and/or international documentation of such a statement.

Dr. Hani Johshan from the Jordanian Society for the Protection from Family Violence and Zeina Khouri from the Jordan River Foundation have the documentation. It’s long and in Arabic, but I’ll let you know if I’ve misquoted them.

Dr. Hani also said that the rate of sexual abuse in Jordan is raising expotentially since the easy availability of internetporn, maybe even to higher than worldwide rates. No one has written about it at JP yet, but there are rumblings that a sexual revolution is taking place here. How I wish it wasn’t so.

Thanks for caring…I wish a morally strong culture like Jordan would provide a safety net.

This is very serious matter, Kinzi. I really appreciate more info. If you can provide me offline with any documents that you have, I’ll make sure to publish them.

Iv’e heard man, many stories of girls being raped either in a magazine or in the news. In bainbridge Island (where I live) I man followed a girl into the bathroom at a public swimming pool and took of her bathing suit, she was a really young girl, probly at age 6. Another this man in a white van took pictures of me and my little sister while my aunt wasn’t looking and he said he was putting it on a website. Theres alot of creeps on my Island but its still the best place to live :)
