Young Australian Muslims want to live without the accusing stares, abuse and jokes about being terrorists. This is the reality faced by many of the 100,000 Australian-born Muslims - almost 90,000 of whom are younger than 24 years.

They considered themselves Australian first, of Egyptian, Lebanese or Turkish descent, and Muslim. But today, almost without exception, these young Australians - lawyers, wharfies, students, graphic designers - shy away from publicly declaring their religion.
