Take it easy, James. I didn’t mean you personally or anyone else here. Just speaking in general. And I’m glad that Jameel and you (I believe all others will) agreed that such shows teaches nothing, and they are nothing more than junk food for mind, as you say.

That is exactly what I was trying to bring attention to in the last part of my previous comment. In spite that we know that these shows are nothing more than ‘junk’, you will find that crowds and crowds of people spend their valuable time defending or whatever, yet when we talk about something more of a value, hardly anyone share his opinion.

This makes me wonder why? It is really depressing :-(

Anyway, I think I achieved the objective of this post. I had a bet with another blogger that saying what I said will bring controversy. Yet, I hoped that we come to the a conclusion, which is exactly what you and Jameel already presented. This was the aim of this post. Cheers ;-)

Sorry to offend you, I’m not trying to teach you anything. I’m also just giving my personal opinion.
As to you question, Jameel has it right. There are no rules that say a program must be educational. I also don’t watch the show (I don’t speak Arabic and I don’t watch “reality” shows) but I understand the value. After a grueling day, slaving over a hot stove for 16 hours (I’m a chef) it’s nice to come home, have a couple of beers and unwind. It’s just junk food for the mind, no nutritional value. As I said, I don’t watch it, I prefer to follow the political shows on Orbit for my junk food. The same could be said for those progams, I’m not going to learn anything, no nutritional value. I simply want to be entertained.
If I want to learn something, I open a book.
Once again, sorry if I offended, not my purpose. I’m a firm beleiver in freedom

I believe that your question about the educational value of star academy is irrelevant, and that is why you do not have an answer yet!. I never heard or read anyone claiming any educational value of the show. Like most of what is on TV, it is made for entertaining (same as comedy shows, sports and music); does football teach us about the physics of ball kicking?
I personally watched it only once, didn’t like it and that was the end of it. I thought that Super Star is much more entertaining, tasteful and classy show.
There is so much on TV nowadays that I don’t believe someone would feel compelled to watch anything because of the lack of alternatives. Why the show is successful (if it is), that I would really like to know!

Guys/gals, just one note, I don’t watch this shit. I was flipping over the channels when I saw what I don’t like, toke some picture of it, and here it is. As I said before, they are free, LBC is free to show what they want, those guys and girls are free to show their ass, you are free to watch what you like, I’m free to call them what I like. I don’t think I have to agree to your standards. You call them angels, I call them sluts. You have a problem with that, that is your problem not mine.

But one thing is pending, no body answered my question. What do these shows teach us? freedom? If this is how you like to call it, you are the right customer, enjoy it. However, does this fall under our ethics and morals? If you say yes, then you are again their targeted customer. Enjoy it! But while you do all of that, respect that other are also free to reject it and call it what they like.

Remember, this is a personal blog. I say what I feel and what I like. You are welcome to do the same, as long as you are not coming to teach me what is right and what is wrong.

PS. seems like majority like to discuss adultery topics. I remember I was discussing the subject with Silly Girl back in Ramadan. We both agreed that when an author spend hours write a worthy topic that touches sensitive subjects, say, economics, politics, etc… you won’t hear a word. But when you write about something which I conceder ‘time waster’, you will get plenty of discussion going on.

Take for example the list of ‘most popular post’ on the right sidebar. These are generated automatically based on comments, referrer, trackbacks, etc… you will see that the most popular are Haifa boobs and Wafah porn, Hala nude, etc… This is interesting phenomena. I think it is worth the research, and shows who and what are people looking for still. SEX!!!

Ok, maybe I should turn this blog to adultery one ;-)

First of all, I think you’re over-reacting. I see nothing erotic in these pictures, just people dancing and having fun. “..belly dancing like sluts.”? They’re just dancing. By your logic, does this mean that every woman dancing in every nightclub in the Middle East is a slut?

Second,”If you are fighting for freedom, better fight for something worth it…”
You have to take the good with the bad. “Freedom” means just that, freedom. If you want to excersise freedom, change the channel. If you find something offensive, don’t watch it. Go ahead and teach your children why you find it offensive, but if you believe in freedom, teach them why these shows should still be on the air.

Third, Does it really surprise you that LBC has a program with sexual overtones? I thought that was the only thing on their station. I’ve seen more belly dancing on the Pepsi stage in one evening than in an entire season of Star Academy.

Finally, I just find this a little bit ironic. Most of the blogs I read are about freedom and injustice and human rights, yet you would trample on these rights if they don’t agree with your morality. Sound like a familiar tone

I didnt know there are different type of belly dancing, slut belly dancing , conservative belly dancing.

Anyways, Music videos shows worse,Arabic movies shows worse. You can’t expect the Arabic audience to watch years and years of trash TV and then expect them to not get influanced by it.

I’m not defending Reality TV, I’m just saying its a product of Arabic TV. I have seen Arabic teens do worse than that in reality, then if so and this is a reality show, I dont see harm in showing it.
I mean there are Amr Khaled teens and there are belly dancing and hooka teens, TV is merely showing the both sides of the coin. I’m not gonna go around and calling those sluts and the others SHYOOKH, because if you remember one of those in Amr Khaled bunch had an affair or some kinda of scandel.
You can’t feed kids bad TV all thier life and then expect them to become conservative teens. If we are going to play the judgement game here I would blame the government for all these junk shows, then blame the parents for allowing thier kids to watch such shows.

Last but not least, sex sells!
This kind of shows draw audience, those who likes it and those are shocked watching it, after all you watched it.

BTW, People in the west don’t watch as much TV as Arabs, back home TV is like a holy thing to do and we have loads of channels to surf through. A lot of studies claims TV kills creativity in kids, and go on saying you should limit the time and content of TV your kids should watch. There are a lot of subliminal messages for kids in their cartoons even, on things like it’s OK to have a boy friend and so on, not to mention the violence. Ok I think I got side tracked, let me stop here :-)
