IDF officer cleared in death of Gaza girl to receive compensation from state

Captain "R" will receive NIS 80,000 in compensation from the state in addition to reimbursement for NIS 2,000 of legal expenses, as part of an arrangement reached between his lawyers and the military prosecution.
The agreement was made official Wednesday in the Israel Defense Forces's Southern Command court.
The officer, who at the time of the incident was serving as a company commander in the Givati infantry brigade's Shaked battalion, has since been promoted to major, and is currently serving as an operations officer in the brigade.
The judges who acquitted Captain R accepted his version of event, in which he stated that the shots that he fired were not aimed directly at the girl's body. Captain R told the court he opened fire in order to create a deterrence, and that he believed that the young girl posed a serious threat.
The judges also criticized the Military Police's investigation of the case, which was based upon a poor transcription of recorded evidence and upon the testimonies of disgruntled soldiers serving under Captain R.

Fundamentalist Christianity (to a great extent) is partnered with Zionism. Our current administration is made up mostly of Christian fundamentalists and out and out Zionists. These fruitcake fundamentalists (not the rational ones)
believe that in order to achieve the "rapture" (Armageddon where all the good guys go straight to heaven) the "Temple Mount" must be restored. The "Temple Mount" as I'm sure you know is the actual restoration of King Soloman's temple as a Judaic pinnacle of success. Supporting Israel MUST be a part of true fundamentalism in order for them to get the "fast pass" to heaven. That this is what is behind so much of our current administration's policy is blood curdling. I'd rather have them consult an astrologist than use this as a means of directing policy. At least you know the astrologist doesn't have a political agenda! The US past administrations supported Israel mostly due to Zionist pressure and the laying on of guilt of the holocost. Our current administration's policies go hand in hand with Zionism and did not necessarily "learn" from them but believe this as their own ingrained morality. THAT is what is so frightening to those of us in the States who believe that both are extreme and dangerous. Hope I made sense.
