Yahoo! New Homepage Design.

One of the world’s most visited webpage, Yahoo.com, has just had a major re-design (can be found at http://yahoo.com/preview).

The Yahoo! re-design is officially flagged as a “preview” (a.k.a. beta) and it isn’t yet the default yahoo.com homepage. There is no firm date for the go-live of the new Web 2.0 design.

Here is how the new design looks like:

For a reason or another, I always liked Yahoo! Over the other giant; Google. Especially when it comes to the news section of Yahoo! It was always more informative, friendly and easy to find and organize the info I’m looking after. However, not when it comes to searching in general. On that front, Google always gave me better shot for what I’m looking for/after (other than news).

What caught my eyes in the new design is the significant use of Ajax, which makes it more interactive (for me) to use. Something that I’ve been enjoying a lot in most of the new Web 2.0 websites and will be looking forward to see in news section once they officially launch the new design.

I think the new Yahoo.com preview page is a big improvement on the old design - in terms of both ‘look n’ feel’. Let’s wait and see how it will roll out.

    i have to say that the new design is ‘wow’,..another ‘wow’ design is being launched for maktoob.com …maktoob is celebrating the new design by offering UNLIMITED free arabic/english email…mabrook for yahoo & maktoob…and especially maktoob!

    I think it’s practical, and that’s very normal since we’re dealing with yahoo, I liked the general layout but honestly I didn’t like the design colors! the previous one was more decent and elegant with a very professional look, in this one I think they tried to follow the fashionable websites (apple for example) but they used the orange in a gradient color “ugly” and spoiled the main blocks! However, I’m sure that we’ll use it, get used to it then like it :S … at the end it’s yahoo :-)
