The Death Angel, Knocking Gaza Doors

Written by Haitham Sabbah on 26. June 2006, 2033hrs // Part of Haitham Sabbah's adventure in Breaking News, Gaza, Human Rights, Israel, Palestine, Terrorism, War, War Crimes // Other posts by Haitham Sabbah

Let’s watch the new massacre.

The new martyrdom count will begin soon in Palestine. The Israeli terrorist drum roll has begun, blood smell on the air, maybe tonight, maybe tomorrow, maybe anytime and God knows for how long it will go on.

The reason is simple. Last night, Palestinian militiamen killed two Israeli terrorist soldiers and toke another as a hostage.

Israeli terrorist forces to raid Gaza

Not surprised, but because it is Israeli soldiers killed and taken hostage (Gilad Shalit), you will find the news in all channels headlines and media outlets.

Well, that’s good, in spite that Israeli terrorist army is now preparing for a new massacre, it is good to have the media focused on this part of the world, on the starving people, on the innocent people living under daily attacks by the Israeli terrorist army, but no one has noticed them until Israeli terrorists were killed. I just hope that the media will cover the expected massacre, while wishing that it doesn’t happen in first place. But knowing the barbaric history of the Israeli terrorist army, my wishes are only day dreams.

The Palestinian militant holding the terrorist called ‘Gilad‘ are now asking for the release of Palestinian women prisoners and Palestinian children under the age of 18. And in case you don’t know, as of April 2006, the latest numbers of Palestinian women prisoners and Palestinian children is 342 Palestinian children and 122 women. I wonder how much attention the Western media gave to this fact, if they did in first place. Do the Western media mention the demands of the Palestinian militia? Did you hear about the Palestinian Women and Children in the Israeli prisons?

Israeli terrorist forces to raid Gaza

All kind of Israeli military equipments are now surrounding Gaza on standby for a major offensive against Palestinians (using the words of the “civilized, democratic, peace loving”, Israeli terrorist Prime Minister - Ehud Olmert). I expect this re-invasion of Gaza to be one of the bloodliest in the history of the occupation, but trust me; Israel will pay a big price for it too.

What next?

I heard about the demands Haitham on CNN after I posted over on Palestinian Children. If the media here goes beyond just mentioning the demand and details the info you just gave us that will be a VERY good thing. But like you, I am praying my deepest prayers that there be no more Israeli attrocities committed against the general population. Let us all pray that no more martyrs, innocent martyrs, children, women or men, resistance fighters, all, will die. No more pictures of suffering. In solidarity with the people of Palestine. Our prayers united so that a diplomatic solution is found before the tanks cross over.

They should’ve never captured the soldier, in fact they should’ve known better, or at least known Israel better. Capturing an Israeli soldier is not enough leverage when it comes to Israel.

A lot of innocent Palestinians are going to pay for this move and no one is going to be released from prison and no one in the world is going to care.

haitham that’s true, but it’s not a suitable metaphor for this situation. when there are still people struggling to survive we can’t call them drowned…perhaps struggling to keep their heads above the water.

i can understand and empathize with attacking a military post. but capturing a soldier and bringing him into gaza is like a trail of blood in the water…sharks are bound to follow

    Andreas Says:

The problem I see is that - like in your post - always the others are “the terrorists”. But with no doubt it is a terrorist act to take a person as a hostage. Also the majority of people (at least in Western countries) who might share political positions with the Palestinians will not accept that and they probably won’t see a reaction of the israely army as a “terorrist act”.

  12. 12
    Robin Says:

I am trying very hard to look at this situation from a logical standpoint. I also agree that all is fair in love and war but I agree with Nas because it isn’t what is fair, it is “what is the outcome going to be?” Israel has not ever been prone to negotiate in the past so why did the PRC think they could get them to negotiate now? My entire sentiments are with the Palestinians but I cannot go along with supporting this one because it was just too risky of a chance to take. According to the numbers above there are 464 women and children being held by the Israelis. The chance that many times that number are going to die should the tanks roll in is NOT an equitable risk. The fact that these “sharks following the trail of blood” will kill innocent children is unfathonable to me. I was watching a very interesting Israeli commentary which posited that this kidnapping is an internal Palestinian struggle betwenn Fatah and Hamas. Fatah cannot admit defeat and Hamas cannot share power. This commentator was saying that Israel would do well to hold back and not take the bait of invasion looking for a needle in the haystack and risking the world see their over-reaction. There is NO WAY the Israelis could rescue this soldier, he is a goner if they even try. But my premis is that they would invade anyway out of retribution UNLESS they stop and think about their own outcome. But what could possibly happen to Israel if they DO invade? ABSOLUTELY NOTHING except PERHAPS a Security Council Meeting seeking for a condemnation and the US vetoing it. This situation is SO tense right now that any hothead could blow it. As I’m reading the latest Gaza has been completely sealed off. They are already starving, what now? More starving? I know what was said, the “drowned do not fear getting wet” but there are CHILDREN. I do NOT want to see one more innocent Palestinian child lying dead. It is the mother in me that goes straight to protecting the children. I do NOT think these kidnappers had the right to put any Palestinian child at risk. Yes it would be Israel invading, that is obvious.
On the flip side, there are reports that the Al-Aqsa Brigades are distributing a leaflet claiming to have crude WMD’s that they will not hesitate to lob into Israel. Is this for real? Or is this some made up story so that bush will back the Israelis no matter what they do? This is all VERY frightening. We must all HOPE and PRAY from our deepest hearts that there is no more death to innocent Palestinians.

  13. 13
    Andreas Says:

@Robin: And if you have some prayers left, why don’t you pray, that there is no more death to innocent Israelis? Just curious.

    Nas Says:

Robin, not WMD’s but primative chemical weapons and if they’re making katyusha rockets in their homes I doubt they possess such weapons or would/could use them. and yes, i’m looking at the consequence. For the rest of the world the idea has been founded that Palestinians attack and Israelis simply retaliate. The self-defence defence. So this is going to be just another drop in the water.

had this been done by hizbollah back in the day it would’ve been a more rational military move on hizbollah’s part if we factored in the occupation, the geography and their military skill. But gaza? i’m guessing this specific case the intention was to shoot and not to capture, but that’s just a guess.

  16. 16
    Robin Says:

    Nas,
You and I and others might be worried about the consequences but I came across this article http://www.nytimes.com/2006/06/27/world/middleeast/27gaza.html?_r=1&oref=slogin which says basically that the citizens in Gaza are supportive of this action and are bracing themselves for the retaliation. Some ven said they are ready to die. They see it as a great move because it was a soldier kidnapped and NOT any death occured to Israeli citizens, it other words, the whole world should see it as a legitimate action considering the occupation. I agree with the logic BUT that depends on the whole world, most importantly, how the US Israel’s biggest bankroller sees it. I ABHOR that my country has this roll in the matter. Without the US, Israel could do NONE of what it does. The fact that this is in a densely populated area puts innocent people at risk. But from what this article says, (mind you it’s the NY Times) the population there supports it a are readdy for the incursion. If every single innocent Palestinian child could be evacuated so that they do not suffer in the probable Israeli retaliation, then it would be up to these adults to stand firm in their willingness to become martyrs should the time arise. To that I have no legitimate arguement. The occupation has done this to the people there. The blame lies ENTIRELY on Israel. I also read several accounts that this was NOT a well organized deed and that Hamas is split over what to do. EVERYONE is trying to figure out what to do and like I said, all it will take is one hot-head to set off what could be a massacre of Palestinians. GET THE CHILDREN OUT! Children have innocence, they smile innocent smiles, they dream innocent dreams. They are not readdy to die. Let no more blood be shed.

  17. 17
    Robin Says:

    Craig Says:

Hostage taking is terrorsim. This is hostage taking. He wasn’t captured as an enemy prisoner of war, he was captured as a hostage. Hence the demands Israel must meet to get him set free. How do you THINK the US will view it, Robin? We had 2 soldiers taken hostage in Iraq a week ago. This is no different, except the Israelis are the victims this time.

Robin, I dont blame them for celebrating it. For those living inside the box it was a sense of justice for over 30 palestinians killed in just these last few days.

it’s only when you live outside the box that you’re used to predicting the consequences.

as for the children…an Israeli missile killed a pregnant woman last week…so even a mother’s womb is unsafe.

  22. 22
    Robin Says:

Nas, I don’t blame them either. I truly do try my best to understand and empathize. I lived through a few months of the civil war in Beirut. I was scared shitless but eveyone around me had a sense of resignation to the situation. They were frightened too, but certainly not to the extent I was. So I sort of have some first hand experience with people who are not so afraid. I was watching CNN, my only media news source other than FOX and one reporter emphasized that a soldier in an occupation was a legitimate target, “End the occupation” he said “and the problem will resolve itself” The Israeli being interviewed said the violence against us will never end. Well, how does he know? Does he have a crystal ball? Israel MUST portray themselves as victims and THAT is the main reason I am against this is because it will garner even more support from my fascist government. I have absolutely no answer as to how to change the US mindset, but that IS the key to putting the pressure on Israel to end the occupation. If I were a Palestinian in living in the occupation, I could very well be doing the same thing and pass no judgement in that sense. I just keep seeing the little children. They’ve got one soldier, now maybe one settler, and Israel is poised to kill hundreds if not thousands of Palestinians. It is self-defeating in my mind. But I do not live in their box. God keep the innocent safe.

  23. 23
    Haitham Says:

    Craig,

Great, I’m glad that you calling this as terrorism. Because this proves what I’m saying, otherwise, what you call kidnapping people from there homes? What you call killing innocent children and civilians? Terrorism, right? And some Palestinian did that, so they are terrorist. Fine. What about the same done by Israelis? Isn?t that terrorism too? What you call putting hundreds of children and women in prison? Isn?t that terrorism too? Gliad is only one prisoner, a war prisoner. Compare him to the hundred children and woman in Israeli jail. If all of this is not terrorism, then sorry, you have no logic in claiming that taking the Israeli terrorist solider as hostage as terrorism. Simply he was taken a prisoner after a militant combat between two armed groups. One group happens to be Palestinian and the other Israeli.

Oh, I missed that, you mean that Israeli and all what it does can never be named terrorism, because God said so, or uncle Sam said so, or you said so? pardon me, you are right, all Palestinian are terrorist, in fact all world are terrorist and the Israelis are angels.

And even if it was not a combat, what credit does an Israeli soldier hold so that he should not be killed and/or taken prisoner? Nothing!

    Andreas,

May I remind you that Israel is the occupier, not the Palestinian? So they have all the rights to resist and fight back. Call it whatever you like, that will not change the history. And tell you what, no matter what Israel does, it?s achieving nothing more than feeding hatred to new generation after another, and this will never be a peaceful ending, not until the end of the time. Until then, it is our fate that we all are going to face, like it or not!

  24. 24
    Haitham Says:

Oh, and by the way, just one last question (since you don’t show up except when it is Israelis in the news, but you hide when innocent Palestinians are killed), what do you call this:
    http://sabbah.biz/mt/archives/2006/06/21/new-massacre-in-palestine-june-21-2006/

Of course there is more if you like it, but I?m interested to hear what you call the Israelis after you see these?

    Craig Says:

    Robin,

I am against this is because it will garner even more support from my fascist government. I have absolutely no answer as to how to change the US mindset

You mean, so it’s not “fascist” anymore? :O

    Good luck with that!

but that IS the key to putting the pressure on Israel to end the occupation.

No, the key to ending the occupation, is ending the war. Period.

Don’t expect America to put pressure on Israel. Arabs and Palestinians created this problem, and they are the ones who will solve it. Eventually. Or not. It’s nothing to do with the US, and even if was, America is, as you said, a “fascist” country, and not only that, we’re at WAR with people just like HAMAS, right now. Just *exactly* like HAMAS. What are the odds the US will pressure Israel to cave to terrorists, while we are at war with terrorists?

And what are the odds that Americans will ever forget that Palestinians were dancing in the streets on Spetember 11th, 2001?

If you want to end the violence, talk to the Palestinians. The violence belongs to them.

  26. 26
    Robin Says:

    Andreas,
I do not wish to see death anywhere. But the fact remains that Israel has been occupying territories since 1967 that are NOT a part of Israel and if you want to go further back, the nation of Israel was forced upon an indigenous population and is therefor an illegal state. Israel proper, pre-67 borders is an internationally recognized state, if not by many of the Palestinians for just cause. Resolution 242 has NEVER been abided by by Israel and that IS cause for retaliation. Quote,
“Emphasizing the inadmissibility of the acquisition of territory by war and the need to work for a just and lasting peace in which every State in the area can live in security,” The mere fact that Jews from all around the world can come to Israel and become citizens granted by the right of return, yet this right is denied the Palestinians is a racist aristocratic practice. I do not have nearly as many prayers for a people who come to a land to live thinking they have some God-given right to that land and then displacing and killing those people who dare to resist. No Israeli adult citizen is innocent in the brutalization of the Palestinian people. The mere fact that they are living on stolen land makes them culpable. The attrocities committed for years in the occupied territories in order to supposedly create a buffer zone has only created more hatred. Why do I have fewer prayers for Israelis? My prayers are simply different for them. That they will relinquish the occupied territories and allow the Palestinian people to have their own state. It is in their own best interest to do this so for this I pray, that Israel has a change in it’s own vicious heart and allows for peace for themselves and their neighbors.

Either you have slept through history class or you should ask for your school money back!

The UK (in agreement with the USA) created Israel because some European Jews (the Zionists) did not want to live in Europe after WWII. The Zionists went to Israel, but since the non-Jewish population already living there did not want to live in a Jewish state they protested and refused to cooperate. The Zionist immigrants found it offensive that the local non-Jewish population did not want a Jewish state pushed over their heads, so they refused to cooperate as well and started to marginalize the original population.
To begin with there were militants on both sides fighting each other and there were ‘neutrals’ on both sides who did not want to fight each other. While there were several riots, clashes between armed groups, and several terrorist attacks on civilians (perpetrated by both sides), the first large scale massacre on neutrals were Zionist extremists who attacked the neutral village of Deir Yassin (April 9-11, 1948) where the Zionist extremists executed somewhere between 90 and 120 men, women, and children who had declared themselves as neutral.

It is a fact, that the United Nations recognize Israel AND Palestine with a separation along the 1967 borders. It is also a fact that the USA is one of the biggest critics of Hamas for refusing to reconize the territorial integrity of Israel while the USA is THE biggest supporter of Israel despite that Israel refuses to recognize the territorial integrity of Palestine!!!!

It is only a couple of weeks ago that Olmert declared that HE will draw the borders unilaterally and that he will never share Jerusalem with anybody! These intentions are in gross violations of the UN recognized borders and the state of Israel has only been able to get away with their ILLEGAL occupation of Palestine, abuse of human rights, state sponsored terrorism, apartheid legislation against Israeli Arabs, and religious extremist behavior because of PROTECTION in the UN and militarily by the USA and its power to veto any UNSC resolution demanding that Israel gets their shit together!

Because of YOUR government’s support of the terrorist governement of Israel they are being treated as victims rather than the perpetrators that they are. If this had not been such a sick US Government dominated world then the government of Israel would rightfully have gotten the same cold shoulder as Hamas for being a terrorist organization.

YOUR government may not have started the conflict, but it is THE prime responsible for drawing the conflict out as long as it has been going on and YOUR government is the No. 1 obstacle to a fair resolution of the conflict!

While I feel sorry for the lives lost on September 11, I cannot say that I would not have danced in the streets if my country had been under abuse and oppression for more than 50 years at the sponsorship of YOUR government! I don’t think it is right to celebrate the death of others, but I fully understand the Palestinians who danced in the streets. After all, though nobody deserved to die in the September 11 attacks it was NOT a completely unprovoked agression on your country!

  29. 29
    Robin Says:

    Craig,
If you do not become educated as to the true history of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict then there is no discussion to be had with you. If you are curious, here is a good start
    http://www.soundofegypt.com/palestinian/adult/massacres.htm
This is a partial list of actual Jewish massacres of innocent Palestinians and the Zionist reasons for committing them.

What the hell do you expect the Palestinians to do when their lands are stolen, their water is expropriated for Israel, their freedom of movement is controlled, their houses are destroyed, their cities are starved, their women and children are held in jails without trial, totally innocent bystanders die in extra-judicial targeted killings of militants occur, “mistakes” such as the Gaza beach incident are covered up, a wall is built snaking through their supposed future state leaving large pockets of settlements which give future cause for Israeli incursion, much much more, and the US CONTINUES TO SUPPORT THIS. Israel could NOT exist if it were not for the US, period. I’m sorry, but when I see the Palestinians dancing in the streets I know why. They are humans who have had to live in a circumstance that is unfathonable to the average Westerner. The ONLY two reasons why I wish that they didn’t dance is I wish they had no reason to dance AND that it perpetuates a negative image to the US which continues to support the terrorist state of Israel PERIOD. The ONLY reason why I wish they had not kidnapped this soldier, a legitimate act of warfare, is because of the possible consequence to the general population. Israel is a terrorist state PERIOD.
The number of UN sanctions against it’s acts is long, LEGITIMATE sanctions that the US has vetoed. There is ABSOLUTELY no defense for the TERRORIST acts of the Israelis. PERIOD. You can lob your bits at me all you want and you are NEVER going to change my mind on this. There is a REASON why “they” hate the US and I strongly suggest you try to find out why before you give your unconditional support to our government and it’s support of the illegal unjustifiable acts of this Jewish state.

  30. 30
    Robin Says:

Furthermore Craig, here are some statistics covering just the time between Sept.29,2000 and Feb. 2, 2006

Number of Israeli children killed - 123 Number of Palestinian children killed - 707

–Total number of Israelis killed - 1084 Total number of Palestinians killed - 3790

–Number of Israelis injured - 7,633 Number of Palestinians injured - 29,395

–To the above totals add that in the 2 weeks up to February 10, 2006, Israeli security forces killed 15 more Palestinians and injured dozens more including 12 children. And more Palestinians are killed and injured nearly every day, including women, children and the elderly.

–Daily U.S. aid to Israel in dollars - $15,139,178 Daily U.S. aid to Palestinian NGOs in dollars - $232,290

–Number of UN resolutions targeting Israel - 65 Number of UN resolutions targeting the Palestinians - 0

–Number of Israelis held prisoner by the Palestinians - 0 Number of Palestinians held prisoner by the Israelis - 9,184

–Number of Israeli homes demolished by the Palestinians - 0 Number of Palestinian homes demolished by the Israelis - 4,170

–The current Israeli unemployment rate is - 8.9% The current estimated Palestinian unemployment rate - estimates vary and range up to 67% and at times even higher.

–Number of new Israeli settlements (for Jews only) built between March 2001 and July 11, 2003 on stolen Palestinian land - 60+ No Palestinian settlement has ever been built on stolen Israeli land (even though it’s land Israel stole from the Palestinians)

And you even try to call the Israeli/US terrorist duo justified?
The mere fact that they wear uniforms while the Palestinians do not does not make them legitimate. If you are going to call the Palestinians “terrorists” then I suggest you notice that a uniform CANNOT cover up the terrorist acts committed simply because they are wearing a “costume” of legitimacy.

  31. 31
    Joachim Says:

Thomas, what simplistic nonsense that the US through ignorance or malice somehow seeks to “draw the conflict out.” The US would stand to gain enormously if this conflict were resolved equitably, and has made efforts to do so for years. You fail to acknowledge that Israel (I mean, of course, the evil US puppeteers) have never had a Palestinian negotiating partner who would consistently recognize the basic premise that Israel could even exist. Who’s protracting the conflict!? You suggest by withdrawing US support Israel would receive the “same cold shoulder,” and then what, things would just work themselves out? Give me a break. The resulting annihilation of Israel and its civilians would make the current fighting look like a school yard brawl. The Arab world has been calling not for compromise or a two state solution, but rather the elimination of Israel. It seems you’re leaving some important facts out of your little history lesson. And your tacit approval of 911 is truly disgusting. Bin Laden hasn’t cared a shit for Palestine — his cause is simply another regressive, repressive and violent manifestation of Neo-Islam. I thought you got a taste of it after the cartoon debacle. I didn’t hear you lend a sympathetic ear then; in fact, you sounded like some kind of American right-winger on the issue as I recall. But I’ve come to see that the self-righteous and hypocritical European pundits, such as yourself, have very short memories. Had it not been for this “sick US government dominated world,” you’d be speaking German. I guess that’s a different history lesson.

  32. 32
    Thomas, a Dane Says:

    Joachim,

What exactly would the USA stand to gain from a solution to the conflict? The loss of one of their biggest weapons and technology customers? The loss of a donation recipient chanelling billions of dollars back to companies in the USA as indirect state subsidy? The loss of billions of dollars in so-called pro-Israel lobbying? The loss of an excuse to build military bases and invading countries all over the Middle East? What exactly is it the USA stands to gain?

“The resulting annihilation of Israel”?!? Did you forget that Israel already has one of the strongest armed forces in the area? That Israeli military technology is years ahead of every other country in the Middle East? That Israel is one of the rogue states who refuse to declare their nuclear weapons stockpile? You actually did buy into the concept of that Israel is the victim in this conflict didn’t you?

“Neo-Islam”? There is nothing new in Islam, it is an old, conservative, and static religion that does not change! I did not claim that the Islamic fascist, Bin Laden, cared about the plight of Palestinians and I don’t know how you read that I appove of 911. What I said was that IF the USA had sponsored abuse of me and my countrymen for 50 years (which they have not) THEN I COULD potentially probably maybe consider to dance in the steet as well, but I did not say that I WOULD! What I said was that I UNDERSTAND how those Palestinians feel. That is something which is called EMPATHY! You should try it some day, then maybe you would understand why so many people think that people like you and the USA government suck big time!!!!

I do not understand what you are getting at with your linking and reference to the cartoon debacle. One thing is for sure, you will not find any of my posts where I preach USA imperialism, cristian supremacy or any of the other nonsense that remotely resembles that of the right-wingers in the USA! Sorry, but I do not recognize the hypocricy and self-righteousness you talk about.

“Had it not been for this ?sick US government dominated world,? you?d be speaking German.”

Es ist klar das du auch einer der Opfer des US-Amerikanische propaganda Maschinerei bist, die denken da?die USA eigenh?ig und ganz ohne beihilfe die Zweiten Weltkrieg gevonnen hat!

Who is right? I still lean to my grandmother!

@Robin: You write about “stolen land” and that “no Israeli adult citizen is innocent in the brutalization of the Palestinian people”. That’s pure hatred. I am sorry, but that position has only one solution: Fight as long, as one side has lost. How far do you want to go back in history to decide, who is the legitimate owner of a piece of land? Pracitally there is no other solution than two seperte states, because the Israelis are now there - and they won’t vanish.

No one said they are going to vanish. But conversely, the Palestinians are not going to decide to go “poof in the night” either. How long do I want to go back? HMMMMMM, let me see, it is the Zionists who lay claim to this land as their gift from God over three thousand years ago and DO wish to rid the land of all those except themselves. When one side, the Zionists, who operate at supposed “chosen people” with the right to the land exclusively, where is the genesis of this so called hatred you accuse me of when my only conviction is that Palestinians who also lay claim to this land for generations should not be driven out?!!!It is not up to you or I to force any solution on the Palestihian people, that is their right to their self-determination as a people. And yes, a solution must be found, butit has been Zionists that have caused this problem in the first place. http://www.jewsagainstzionism.com/ and it is Zionism which is the root of the hatred.
