No one said they are going to vanish. But conversely, the Palestinians are not going to decide to go “poof in the night” either. How long do I want to go back? @Robin: You write about “stolen land” and that “no Israeli adult citizen is innocent in the brutalization of the Palestinian people”. That’s pure hatred. I am sorry, but that position has only one solution: Fight as long, as one side has lost. How far do you want to go back in history to decide, who is the legitimate owner of a piece of land? Pracitally there is no other solution than two seperte states, because the Israelis are now there - and they won’t vanish.

What exactly would the USA stand to gain from a solution to the conflict? The loss of one of their biggest weapons and technology customers? The loss of a donation recipient chanelling billions of dollars back to companies in the USA as indirect state subsidy? The loss of billions of dollars in so-called pro-Israel lobbying? The loss of an excuse to build military bases and invading countries all over the Middle East? What exactly is it the USA stands to gain?

“The resulting annihilation of Israel”?!? Did you forget that Israel already has one of the strongest armed forces in the area? That Israeli military technology is years ahead of every other country in the Middle East? That Israel is one of the rogue states who refuse to declare their nuclear weapons stockpile? You actually did buy into the concept of that Israel is the victim in this conflict didn’t you?

Thomas, what simplistic nonsense that the US through ignorance or malice somehow seeks to “draw the conflict out.” The US would stand to gain enormously if this conflict were resolved equitably, and has made efforts to do so for years. You fail to acknowledge that Israel (I mean, of course, the evil US puppeteers) have never had a Palestinian negotiating partner who would consistently recognize the basic premise that Israel could even exist. Who’s protracting the conflict!? You suggest by withdrawing US support Israel would receive the “same cold shoulder,” and then what, things would just work themselves out? Give me a break. The resulting annihilation of Israel and its civilians would make the current fighting look like a school yard brawl. The Arab world has been calling not for compromise or a two state solution, but rather the elimination of Israel. It seems you’re leaving some important facts out of your little history lesson. And your tacit approval of 911 is truly disgusting. Bin Laden hasn’t cared a shit for Palestine — his cause is simply another regressive, repressive and violent manifestation of Neo-Islam. I thought you got a taste of it after the cartoon debacle. I didn’t hear you lend a sympathetic ear then; in fact, you sounded like some kind of American right-winger on the issue as I recall.
