How strong is the Lebanese government? Not very. It looks to me like Iranian support for Hezbollah would not necessitate direct Iranian involvement.

I am starting to hate Israel for their arrogance, and their military superiority.
They are using it to control the people (Mulim and Christian) to further their occupation of their lands.
Give it a few more years and there won’t be any Palestinians.

Just reading… one reporter today stated Hizbullah has roots back to 79′ and Iran was sending 1000′s of teens to go sweep the mine fields. This is where they developed thier no fear attitude….

And I dont know if I heard right but a million deaths in those regional war zones 25 years ago

Marie, if you knew anything at all about Cognitive Psychology, Linguistics, Philosophy or political semantics, you would realise that Chomsky is a man of the same kind of stature as Charles Darwin, Isaac Newton or Albert Einstein, and whether you agreed with him or not, you would not describe him as a “joke” who was lacking in credibility. Then again, you don’t. So why bother attacking someone you obviously know nothing of?

Kimmy, I agree wholeheartedly with the general thrust of your message, however in the spirit of good old Noam (above) I am going to be a complete pedant and correct you on your history (sorry Kimmy!). Hizb’Allah’s roots can be traced back to a section of the Revolutionary Guard of Iran, not Palestinian refugees who were represented by the PLO.

In June 1982 Syria allowed the Iranian government in Iran to send around 1,000 Pasdaran (members of the Revolutionary Guard) to the Beqaa Valley of eastern Lebanon, which was occupied by Syrian forces. This decision was made in the wake of the Israeli invasion of Lebanon earlier in the same month, and this is what formed the basis of the original Hizb’Allah.

From this point, things start to get very complicated and very horrific (even more so than now), so I will spare you the details! However, I will conclude by writing that the Hizb’Allah have never been a Palestinian (or Syrian) organisation and are no longer an Iranian organization, they are a Lebanese organisation from the Shia sector of Lebanese society whose struggle is VERY closely tied up with that of the Palestinians.

Why is there Hezbollah?
They were created when Israel invaded and occupied Southern Lebanon.
They were exiled Palestinians.
Israel has occupied Gaza for over 40 years!
Hezbollah and Hamas have been doing work for the civilians that the local governments haven’t done.
They have built up services such as schools. hospitals and other much needed infrastructure.
Destroy Hamas and Hezbollah and you destroy exciled Palestinians of their only chance of a future.
Israel is destroying a whole people in the name of self-defence.
And in that name they are attacking in the name of self-defence.
I now know why my grandmother denounced her religion (Jewish) years ago.
The Jews are not living in accordance of their faith.

Chomsky has even payed a visit to Hizbollah personally a couple months ago, to congratulate them personally.

At the time I figure he finally went “off the rails”, as we say here – what could he possibly have in common with a militant fundamental Islam group? What single value, outside opposing Israel, could they share?
