Notes from northern Israel

Is Israel Using Arab Villages as Human Shields? Ehud Olmert’s media adviser, Assif Shariv, told the Post that the international media were interviewing Israeli spokespeople four times as much as spokespeople for the Palestinians and Lebanese. Another government adviser, Gideon Meir, boasted: “We have never had it so good. The hasbara [propaganda] effort is a well-oiled machine."

Which may explain why we know so little about what is happening in Lebanon and Gaza -- and why we know so little about what is happening inside Israel too.

To remind you, I (JONATHAN COOK), like other residents of northern Israel, am under martial law. As are the foreign journalists -- and in addition they are required to submit their copy to the military censor. So all I can tell you, without breaking the law, is that you are not hearing the entire picture of what has been happening here in the Galilee. Read details...

Just to freshen up your english, “Hasbara” is ‘Explination’ or even ‘public relations’ unlike “Taamula” which is propaganda.

Frankly, like most other material I see by Jonathan Cook, this is a load of bollocks.

Rocket hits on certain targets are kept secret, because publishing the exact locations helps the rocket launchers aim more accurately. This the terrible “martial law” Cook is referring to – and even that is hardly enforced.

In any case, I fail to see exactly how Israel could possibly “use Arab villages as human shield”. Unlike Hizbollah, Israel’s army does not fight from within civilian population. It is also remarkably hard for an Israeli town to run and duck behind an Arab village when rockets are fired on it.

Obviously Cook is trying to impress his ignorant anti-Israeli readership by giving the impression he’s a under some threat, bravely writing these words from his home in Israel. Well, he isn’t. We’re used to English wankers with limited writing skills and no ability whatsoever to think outside their party line here. Nobody really pays him any attention in Israel.

Incidentallt, since this is an Arab site, can any reader point to an example of a journalist (to use the term loosely) who writes propaganda against an Arab country, during a war, while he lives in it and knows full well no harm will come to him? Or even in peace time?

If I were Arab, I wouldn’t be too pleased to have clowns like Cook on my side, and certainly wouldn’t rush to publish his easily-refuted crap.

Unfortunately, things will go on as Lebanon as long as we ALL keep thinking about ourselves and nobody else. God will give justice one day but we all have to act and not wait to see His hand coming upon us…Jews have suffered the Holocaust BUT actions like these make many of us give right to Adolf Hitler and feel sorry that has left an unfinished job.. Also keep in mind that 9/11 had now Jew Victims. Coincidence? I DoNT THINK SO!
