You know what? No need to vow… if you have the capacity to do it, then just do it! The Lebanese are being butchered anyway, so might as well retaliate with all your might!

I’m From Canada, Get educated. You people act like you are from the middle ages. You people reap what you sow. You want to be terrorists, you get what you deserve. Leave the Israelis alone and you will get your peace.
As far as most North Americans are concerned you people have lost all credibility. You have no sympathy here. And as far as your comment about retaliating with all your might, if the Israelis were to do what you want Nasrallah to do, then Syria and Lebanon would be a glass nuclear wasteland. So shut the fuck up and grow up

Nasrallah and his organization began this bloody mess. Why, in the all criticism reflexively thrown at Washington and Tel Aviv, is Hezbullah exempted? Hezbullah acted unilaterally, declaring war on Israel without consulting with the Lebanese people as to whether they wanted such a conflict.

With all due respect Sabbah, your attempt at moral calculus is missing a few key variables.

  • 27 July, 2006, 11:58

    Peter S.

Hizbollah never declared war on Israel until Israel did first. They captured two Israeli soldiers IN LEBANON as the AP reported first! The the media decided to change it up and call it a cross border raid or on the border making it look like Hizbollah went on the Israeli Border.

Israel takes many Lebanese and Palestinian citizens and hold them up in prisons without even going to court. Yeah I am sure some of them are some bad guys but many of them are innocent. Hizbolla did not take Israeli Citizens. They took soldiers that were on their land, in a chance to exchange prisoners with Israel.

And Israel was the first to fire any rockets or create any exchange in fighting, and then decided to escalate it to collective punishment on the Lebanese people. If this was a war on Hizbollah like Israel claims, why there more than 300 dead leabanese civilians whom are innocent? It just does not make sense.

So Peter S. with all due respect maybe you should look over the facts again.

My views are too extreme according to our new “terror laws” (which I believe are a joke) and I can’t discuss this issue much here in Britain so I have a few questions for anyone who cares to answer them.

Do you think that Israel would have invaded anyway? If I believe that Israel needs the fear of attack in order to dissuade another invasion of Lebanon (next time their economy starts booming) as diplomacy has failed them, am I wrong? You can’t rely on America or Europe to use a fair hand either (sanctioning the democratically elected Hamas for example) can you?

I support Huzbullah over Israel any day, does this make me a supporter of terrorism? Is Nasrallah a hero or villain to the majority in the middle east? Would south Lebanon be occupied if it weren’t for Huzbullah? Are Huzbullah a necessary part of Lebanon or is Nasrallah “holding Lebanon hostage” ? Will killing him help?

The Israelis have bought much of our government and media, they successfully pushed dubious laws in favour of Israel and the “war on terror” which I believe are against our national interests. Is this imbalance the reason why people have resorted to violence? I honestly believe “Lord” Levy and Blair are guilty of treason and it looks like mr Blair has decided he wants to be a part of the “new middle east”, how will this all transpire? How will this effect Britain?

I think that America and Britain may have over-spent on the war. They believe the only way to balance the books now is with some of that Iranian oil. Could it be they can’t stop now because they still haven’t got their hands on the Iraqi oil yet which they were counting on? Is this neocons pulling all the strings and has Blair really bought their lies? Will Israel be able to defeat Iran & Syria? Will they try?

I have watched Israels destructive ways closely for over six years now but my father has been watching this for about 38 and it drives him mad. Whenever he meets an Israeli in a pub or a bar it always ends up in a massive argument over the Palestinians. When I see the Israelis getting a taste of their own medicine the word justice springs to mind. Am I wrong in thinking it’s about time someone stood up for the injustice with force as diplomacy has failed all but Israel?

Am I not seeing the whole picture? Please let me know your opinions as I’m on the other side of the world and I find the news here misleading and frustrating. I marched against the Iraq war with a mere 1-2 million protestors and I believe in peace and democracy. I also think that our principles have been corrupted and I find it very hard to see a peaceful way out of this mess.

I am beginning to think that the real extremists are the not the Muslims, this thread just proves that. Why do these people think it’s OK to brandish “you people” (is that muslims or Lebanese) terrorists? Why do they quote lies as facts?
This is scary, we have become the terrorists now.

i would like to leave a comment in regards to hezbollah may god protect the only protectors of human dignity and freedoms of the lebanese.they are theresistance fighters to really give isreal the same grief that isreal gives the palestinians and every muslim in the middle east. may god bless nassrallah. let us first realize the zionist movement has brought nothing but stealing of the land anywhere they can go in and attack civilians withtheir bombthat are unlawful in the eyes of the world except in the eyes of the american government. hezbollah is not a muslim extremist movement, only a movement to stop the isrealis terrorism that isreal continues to attack day in and day out thinking that they will break hezbollah let them know that the lebanese people and civilians are hezbollah in there heart. isreal have you not learned from when you left s.lebanon in themiddle of the night and locked the gate behind to to lick the wounds hezbollah gave you. now you are finding out that they are willing to harm you the same way you have been harming the muslims and the middle east since you came into the middle east.

With Alqaeda calling upon all the muslims around the globe. The war against united states, israel and its allies has taken onto a new dimension. Imagine a strike at the heart of United Kingdom, U.S and Europe. Simultaneouly at all the military and civilian targets. It would be collateral damage. It is necessary now that the all United Nations should play a prominent role in brokering a peace deal and negotiating release of palestinian civilians in israeli jails

Reading all of this brings me to only one conclusion.
THERE ARE A LOT OF REALLY DUMB PEOPLE IN THE WORLD. They write as if they know it all, like real experts. They should study history, and do research before they write stupidity. It is exactly these people that give the terrorist strenght to continue with their atrocities.

    basora,

Just to let you know, recently the mossad agents, CIA, MI5 and republican senator had been speculating the option of striking kabe shariff Mecca and Medina. This is still on cards and this is the recent history.

Basora please let me know what you would have to say about these plans of MI5. Another news is Prince of Britain is heading for his posting sometime this week or next week to iraq or afghanistan for combat duty to conquer the lands. The following has not yet been confirmed for comments by British Defense secretary when asked.”independent correspondent”

Still peddling the war on terror Bosora? The whole world knows Israel just wants to flatten it’s neighbours by hook or by crook. Are you another gullible citizen who bought the neocon lies and you’re running around scared (just where they want you) or are you an Israeli?

Peace be from God on Everyone. Please seek the truth. Unfortunately American do not search read or do anything to find out what happens around the world in their name and with their money, a small example is 1 billion US dollars a day in Iraq. We can all watch the news and see if the freedom we have sent our soldiers and drained our resources for has really accomplished anything positive but more daily killings and destroying a 5000-year-old civilization called ?Iraq?. I mentioned the above to remind us Americans and none Americans to seek the truth about this other war that we have been supporting from day one as we watch and see how crimes are being committed daily while the world and the UN, which can’t even find Isreal guilty of killing the 4 UN peace keepers in south of Lebanon. It?s amazing how resistance group become a terrorist group in our media which is controlled by few people, while the real terriots group ?Al-quida? which ?Hezeb-Allah? condemned everything ?Al-quida? has done are compaired alike and even appraised by some people overseas alike. Dear Anon (Post#5/6)

You will find a lot of answers you’re looking for in the followimg article: (http://www.counterpunch.org/cockburn07212006.html)

A perilous excursion into the distant past, starting seven whole weeks ago

Hezbollah, Hamas and Israel: Everything You Need To Know

    By ALEXANDER COCKBURN

As the tv networks give unlimited airtime to Israel?s apologists, the message rolls out that no nation, least of all Israel, can permit bombardment or armed incursion across its borders without retaliation.

The guiding rule in this tsunami of drivel is that the viewers should be denied the slightest access to any historical context, or indeed to anything that happened prior to June 28, which was when the capture of an Israeli soldier and the killing of two others by Hamas hit the headlines, followed soon thereafter by an attack by a unit of Hezbollah?s fighters.

Memory is supposed to stop in its tracks at June 28, 2006.

Let?s go on a brief excursion into pre-history. I?m talking about June 20, 2006, when Israeli aircraft fired at least one missile at a car in an attempted extrajudicial assassination attempt on a road between Jabalya and Gaza City. The missile missed the car. Instead it killed three Palestinian children and wounded 15.

Back we go again to June 13, 2006. Israeli aircraft fired missiles at a van in another attempted extrajudicial assassination. The successive barrages killed nine innocent Palestinians.

Now we?re really in the dark ages, reaching far, far back to June 9, 2006, when Israel shelled a beach in Beit Lahiya killing 8 civilians and injuring 32.

That?s just a brief trip down Memory Lane, and we trip over the bodies of twenty dead and forty-seven wounded, all of them Palestinians, most of them women and children.

Israel regrets? But no! Israel doesn?t regret in the least. Most of the time it doesn?t even bother to pretend to regret. It says, ?We reserve the right to slaughter Palestinians whenever we want. We reserve the right to assassinate their leaders, crush their homes, steal their water, tear out their olive groves, and when they try to resist we call them terrorists intent on wrecking the ?peace process??.

Now Israel says it wants to wipe out Hezbollah. It wishes no harm to the people of Lebanon, just so long as they?re not supporters of Hezbollah, or standing anywhere in the neighborhood of a person or a house or a car or a truck or a road or a bus or a field, or a power station or a port that might, in the mind of an Israeli commander or pilot, have something to do with Hezbollah. In any of those eventualities all bets are off. You or your wife or your mother or your baby get fried.

Israel regrets? But no! As noted above, it doesn?t regret in the least. Neither does George Bush, nor Condoleezza Rice nor John Bolton who is the moral savage who brings shame on his country each day that he sits as America?s ambassador (unconfirmed) at the UN and who has just told the world that a dead Israel civilian is worth a whole more in terms of moral outrage than a Lebanese one.

None of them regrets. They say Hezbollah is a cancer in the body of Lebanon. Sometimes, to kill the cancer, you end up killing the body. Or bodies. Bodies of babies. Lots of them. Go to the website fromisraeltolebanon.info and take a look. Then sign the petition on the site calling on the governments of the world to stop this barbarity.

You can say that Israel brought Hezbollah into the world. You can prove it too, though this too involves another frightening excursion into history.

This time we have to go far, almost unimaginably far, back into history. Back to 1982, before the dinosaurs, before CNN, before Fox TV, before O?Reilly and Limbaugh. But not before the neo-cons who at that time had already crawled from the primal slime and were doing exactly what they are doing now: advising an American president to give Israel the green light to ?solve its security problems? by destroying Lebanon.

In 1982 Israel had a problem. Yasir Arafat, headquartered in Beirut, was making ready to announce that the PLO was prepared to sit down with Israel and embark on peaceful, good faith negotiations towards a two-state solution.

Israel didn?t want a two-state solution, which meant — if UN resolutions were to be taken seriously — a Palestinian state right next door, with water, and contiguous territory. So Israel decided chase the PLO right out of Lebanon. It announced that the Palestinian fighters had broken the year-long cease-fire by lobbing some shells into northern Israel.

Palestinians had done nothing of the sort. I remember this very well, because Brian Urquhart, at that time assistant secretary general of the United Nations, in charge of UN observers on Israel?s northern border, invited me to his office on the 38th floor of the UN hq in mid-Manhattan and showed me all the current reports from the zone. For over a year there?d been no shelling from north of the border. Israel was lying.

With or without a pretext Israel wanted to invade Lebanon. So it did, and rolled up to Beirut. It shelled Lebanese towns and villages and bombed them from the air. Sharon?s forces killed maybe 20,000 people, and let Lebanese Christians slaughter hundreds of Palestinian refugees in the camps of Sabra and Chatilla.

The killing got so bad that even Ronald Reagan awoke from his slumbers and called Tel Aviv to tell Israel to stop. Sharon gave the White House the finger by bombing Beirut at the precise times — 2.42 and 3.38 — of two UN resolutions calling for a peaceful settlement on the matter of Palestine.

When the dust settled over the rubble, Israel bunkered down several miles inside Lebanese sovereign territory, which it illegally occupied, in defiance of all UN resolutions, for years, supervising a brutal local militia and running its own version of Abu Graibh, the torture center at the prison of Al-Khiam.

Occupy a country, torture its citizens and in the end you face resistance. In Israel?s case it was Hezbollah, and in the end Hezbollah ran Israel out of Lebanon, which is why a lot of Lebanese regard Hezbollah not as terrorists but as courageous liberators.

The years roll by and Israel does its successful best to destroy all possibility of a viable two-state solution. It builds illegal settlements. It chops up Palestine with Jews-only roads. It collars all the water. It cordons off Jerusalem. It steals even more land by bisecting Palestinian territory with its ?fence?. Anyone trying to organize resistance gets jailed, tortured, or blown up.

Sick of their terrible trials, Palestinians elect Hamas, whose leaders make it perfectly clear that they are ready to deal on the basis of the old two-state solution, which of course is the one thing Israel cannot endure. Israel doesn?t want any ?peaceful solution? that gives the Palestinians anything more than a few trashed out acres surrounded with barbed wire and tanks, between the Israeli settlements whose goons can murder them pretty much at will.

So here we are, 24 years after Sharon did his best to destroy Lebanon in 1982, and his heirs are doing it all over again. Since they can?t endure the idea of any just settlement for Palestinians, it?s the only thing they know how to do. Call Lebanon a terror-haven and bomb it back to the stone age. Call Gaza a terror-haven and bomb its power plant, first stop on the journey back to the stone age. Bomb Damascus. Bomb Teheran.

Of course they won?t destroy Hezbollah. Every time they kill another Lebanese family, they multiply hatred of Israel and support for Hezbollah. They?ve even unified the parliament in Baghdad, which just voted unanimously — Sunnis and Shi?ites and Kurds alike — to deplore Israel?s conduct and to call for a ceasefire.

I hope you?ve enjoyed these little excursions into history, even though history is dangerous, which is why the US press gives it a wide birth. But even without the benefit of historical instruction, a majority of Americans in CNN?s instant poll ?- about 55 per cent out of 800,000 as of midday, July 19 — don?t like what Israel is up to.

Dislike is one thing, but at least in the short term it doesn?t help much. Israel?s 1982 attack on Lebanon grew unpopular in the US, after the first few days. But forcing the US to pressure Israel to settle the basic problem takes political courage, and virtually no US politician is prepared to buck the Israel lobby, however many families in Lebanon and Gaza may be sacrificed on the altar of such cowardice.

hezbollah as the instrument of the deliverance of greater unity of all israeli
    people? the rockets fall on both jew and non-jew israeli. Hence equal suffering;
so also equal representation? A second lower house for the israeli government
based solely on population. debate both in the lower house and the Knesset.
hence greater inclusiveness of all peoples. so a new voice is heard, channeled
from the street into a political outlet. would such evenhandedness be possible,
or have the stones gone silent? Do i hear israel singing, or do i hear only
    silence
