Did you know?

Did you know that 87 percent of Lebanese support Hizbullah’s fight with Israel, a rise of 29 percent on a similar poll conducted in February. More striking, however, is the level of support for Hizbullah’s resistance from non-Shiite communities. Eighty percent of Christians polled supported Hizbullah along with 80 percent of Druze and 89 percent of Sunnis.

Did you know that battle over Bolton could be decided by Jewish support: “I believe almost every Republican will be supporting” Bolton in the Senate, and “you’re going to have a surprising number of Democrats supporting him because of his record” of “courage, intelligence and eloquence,” said Morton Klein, president of the Zionist Organization of America.

Do you know who is winning this war? On the 16th day of the war, Hizbullah is functioning and fighting. That by itself will go down in the annals of the Arab peoples as a shining victory. When a featherweight boxer faces a heavyweight and is still standing in the 15th round - that is a victory, whatever the final outcome.

Am I mistaken or the Israeli Minister Ramon is the same one who used to be a peace advocate at the same level of Yosi Bellin?

    Micael:

You have certainly memorized your Bernard Lewis list of terms: Ummah, Khaibar, Dhimmi, bla bla.

The more you people utter those worse the more you are exposed. We all now know that you are nothing but parrots of Daniel Pipes and the cabal. Tell me now, what is the significance of using the name “Jericho” for Israeli missiles if not a single Jew lives in Jericho today?

    Sabbah,

Let me see if I follow your line of thinking.

Hezbullah starts a war, but this is okay because somebody needed to restore Arab pride by showing it was possible for an armed Arab force to go toe to toe with the IDF for a few weeks. (Anyway, the disproportionate deaths should be blamed solely on those demonic Israelis)

How do you set aside the fact that the war was declared without the agreement of the Lebanese people–who were more focused on rebuilding Lebanon than commiting violence to “restore” Arab pride?

From Thomas Friedman’s last article in the NYT. Words worth pondering:

“When will the Arab-Muslim world stop getting its ?pride? from fighting Israel and start getting it from constructing a society that others would envy, an economy others would respect, and inventions and medical breakthroughs from which others would benefit?

There will be no new Middle East ? not as long as the New Middle Easterners, like Rafik Hariri, the former Lebanese prime minister, get gunned down; not as long as Old Middle Easterners, like Nasrallah, use all their wits and resources to start a new Arab-Israeli war rather than build a new Arab university; and not as long as Arab media and intellectuals refuse to speak out clearly against those who encourage their youth to embrace martyrdom with religious zeal rather than meld modernity with Arab culture.”

Sabbah, since you have demonstrated through this blog that you are an intelligent and educated man, that last statement should have special resonance for you.

It is really incredible how the Arab media turn an agression on Israel (the abduction and killing of frontier soldiers/guards) into an agression of Israel on Lebanon. The huge number of rockets launched by Hezbollah towards Israel (in order to kill as many civilians as possible, but the Israelis are better prepaired for such attacks with shelters and alarms, therefore they count lesser casualties than Lebanon), show that it was definitely time to react. The Lebanese people will be grateful in the future. Militias such as “Hezbollah” can’t be tolerated within a democratic state.

Siegfried, the Israeli soldiers were IN LEBANON when they were captured. (Associated Press) Hezbollah Captures 2 Israeli Soldiers. If Israeli soldiers launched an attack inside Italy, what would the Italian army do?

Re comments 8 and 9, I guess that a belated retraction is order. I found out shortly after posting those messages that due to mistakes in translation there were several early reports stating that the capture of the soldiers took place in Aitaa al-Chaab in southern Lebanon. Of course, it is now widely acknowledged that the raid took place at an Israeli border patrol station. Apologies for not correcting myself sooner!
