Wake up, America! Israel is no friend of yours

The following article was written by a well known UAE businessman (Khalaf Ahmed Al Habtoor), however it did not mention how the American 'friend', Israel, attacked the USS Liberty in 1967, murdering 34 of its crew while injuring 167 - now did it mention Jonathan Pollard spying on America for Israel - nor did it mention the latest spy on America for Israel (It is AIPAC again, wrote about it here and here, and if you don't know what is AIPAC, read more)- nor the proposed sale of sensitive AWACS technology to China by Israel - with 'friends' like Israel, America needs no additional 'enemies'.

With the 'star of David' flying over the Capitol Building and the White House - and with the Zionist Christians (Christian in name only, more about them here and here) pressing for support of Israel - it is NOT likely that the American sheep will ever wake up the fact that Israel is leading them to slaughter - just NOT ever going to happen. Wake up, America! Israel is no friend of yours
While US citizens benefit from the Arab world, they don't know they're on the losing end with Israel
by Khalaf Ahmed Al Habtoor

The so-called "special relationship" between the US and Israeli governments is well known. It goes without saying that the vast majority of Americans wholeheartedly support their nation's love-fest with Israel. Most Americans feel an affinity with Israelis to the detriment of Arabs. How mistaken they are! The fact is that while Americans benefit hugely from the Arab world, little do they know they are on the losing end when it comes to Israel.

The US-Israel bond has become so incestuous that few Americans even question its value. Even fewer ask themselves what the US gets out of its financial, military and moral support of a foreign entity that their government believes can do no wrong. At the same time, they remain suspicious of the Muslim world.

The misguided post-September 11 policies promoted by the Bush administration have reinforced the anti-Arab, anti-Muslim stance of most Americans. A recent Gallop poll suggests four out of 10 Americans feel "prejudice" toward Muslims.

These attitudes are nothing short of a slap in the face to Arab nations that have invested trillions of dollars in the US economy and consider themselves Washington's strategic partners.

What the Arab world gives America:

In reality the Arab world is far more beneficial to the US than Israel. Here's why:

- Members of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), which are all Arab or Muslim (with the exception of Venezuela), exchange their oil for petrodollars, which means non-producing countries must keep vast sums of dollars in reserve, thus bolstering the dollar and the US economy.

- The Gulf supplies the US with approximately one-third of its total oil requirements or some 2.5 million barrels per day.

- The 22 Arab League member countries import more goods and services from the US than any other region, especially vehicles, machinery, equipment, building materials, chemicals, medicines and aircraft. Saudi Arabia alone buys more than Israel and Egypt combined.

- US sales of goods and services to the GCC have totaled more than $20 billion annually and "create or sustain more than half-a-million jobs in the United States," according to the American Business Council of the Gulf Countries.

- The GCC states invest billions of dollars annually in US acquisitions, property and bonds. Saudi Arabia alone invests an estimated 60 percent of its global investment in the US, according to Tanya C. Hsu, a senior analyst of Middle East political economy at the Institute for Research: Middle Eastern Policy.

"This commitment has enabled the US to finance an ongoing trade deficit and produce new economic growth opportunities," Hsu says.

- Many Arab countries, in particular Jordan, Egypt and various GCC countries, are strategic partners of America within the region, hosting US bases and working closely with the American government in the "war on terror."

- Morocco and several GCC countries have signed up to free-trade agreements with the US which the US hopes will lead to a Middle East Free Trade Agreement (MEFTA).

- Over 50,000 American civilians live in the GCC, representing the largest US expatriate community in the world.

What Americans sacrifice for Israel

What about the American people? What are they obliged to sacrifice for the sake of maintaining America's favored relation with Israel?

First on the list is the official figure of $3 billion each year, which American taxpayers donate to Israeli coffers whether they like it or not.

This is split up into $1.2 billion in economic aid and $1.8 billion in military aid, two-thirds of which must be spent on American-made military hardware and planes.

In reality, Israel receives much more than that because there are extra sums, which according to The Washington Report on Middle East Affairs "are buried in the budgets of governments departments such as the Defense Department."

The US also gives Israel billions of dollars in loans and often writes off these amounts so that it can say with hand over heart honesty that Israel has never defaulted on a loan. It further guarantees loans to Israel to the tune of $2 billion annually.

By conservative estimates, by the end of a US citizen's life he or she will have contributed $25,000 in taxes to support Israel, which for some signifies an entire year's pay.

Since 1949, the US has given the Jewish state a whopping $140 billion or more. To put this in context, this represents almost one-and-a-half times the annual GDP of the United Arab Emirates, which in 2005 stood at $98.1 billion.

Is Israel grateful?

Are Israelis grateful for all this financial support? Do they feel loyalty to their kindly big brother across the ocean?

The answer is no. Many Israelis I've spoken to over the years feel positively hostile toward the US. They both resent having to rely on Washington's generosity as well as having to abide by its orders. This is anecdotal rather than science but the proof that Israel is deeply suspicious of the US is the fact that Israel continually spies on its number one ally.

Fox News, which is generally to be perceived as a propaganda arm of the Bush administration, detailed these spying activities in a four-part series hosted by one of its investigate reporters, Carl Cameron.

Cameron was told by investigators within the FBI and other intelligence agencies that to pursue or even suggest that Israel was spying on Americans is nothing less than "career suicide."

Cameron quotes a defense intelligence report explaining why Israel would want to spy on its ally. It reads:

"The Israelis are motivated by strong survival instincts which dictate every possible facet of their political and economical policies. It aggressively collects military and industrial technology and the US is a high-priority target."

Put simply, each US citizen pays an average of $25,000 in tax to Israel, which, in turn, is spying on his country. It's inconceivable that most ordinary Americans are even aware of Israeli treachery on such a large scale.

Israel's strategic worth

The question is: What does the American government get in return for its unerring devotion to Israel? From the US government's perspective Israel stands as the guardian of its strategic interests throughout the Middle East.

It uses Israel to stir up trouble throughout the region, fight its proxy wars, test out cutting-edge US-made weaponry, and create a regional demand for American fighter jets, helicopters, tanks and missiles.

In previous years, Israel has served its master well by shipping illegal arms to prop up pro-US Central American dictatorships, Apartheid South Africa and groups within the Arab world out to topple anti-American nationalist regimes.

In turn, the US is committed to fighting Israel's wars.

A former adviser to George W. Bush, Philip Zelikow, tells us the invasion of Iraq had nothing to do with Saddam Hussein's weapons of mass destruction but was rather conducted to eliminate a growing threat to Israel.

The investigative journalist Seymour Hersh, who first broke the Abu Ghraib scandal, quotes insider sources as saying the recent war between Israel and Lebanon was planned by Israel and the US last spring. This was to protect Israel from Hizbullah as a prelude to a possible US pre-emptive strike on Iran's nuclear facilities.

Americans should take note. Almost 2,000 American soldiers have died in Iraq, while billions of dollars have been spent maintaining America's occupation, not to make America safe, not to spread democracy, but to protect Israel.

Cheered on by the US government, Israel furthers regional disunity in the Arab world with some Arab government having signed peace treaties with Tel Aviv while others remain vehemently hostile.

A feuding Arab world allows minority groups within the region supported by the US to stir dissent so as to weaken Arab leaders. This is particularly true in Iraq where Shiites have been set against Sunnis.

In this way, the US gets to control the region's resources and ensure they don't fall into the hands of rising superpowers, such as China and India.

The Bush administration pays lip service to a Palestinian state but if there ever was a comprehensive peace process sealed between all the 22 members of the Arab League and Israel, eventually a united and prosperous Middle East that included Israel would have no further need for Washington.

So, just as Israel is no true friend to America, Washington is no friend to Israel. The difference between Israelis and Americans is this. Israelis are aware of the "I'll scratch your back if you scratch mine" game, while most Americans are not.

This is because Washington and the powerful pro-Israel lobby rely on media propaganda to indoctrinate the American people into believing that Israeli and US policies coincide.

The US government needs Americans to believe Israelis are the good guys, so they will happily open their purses to keep Israel armed to the teeth even if this means the US becomes a target for extremists prepared to use heinous methods to vent their genuine grievances.

"Why do they hate us?"

When it comes to Arabs and Muslims, a small percentage of which are seen on television burning US flags, Americans are fond of asking: "Why do they hate us?"

Until five years ago, the US was held up throughout the Arab world as a beacon of human rights and civil liberties; American technology and culture was admired, while Arab youth dreamt of studying and working in the US. This changed after September 11 when the Bush administration used this pretext to invade Afghanistan and Iraq and began detaining Muslims without charge or trial.

To serve his own agenda, Bush wants us to believe extremist elements "hate democracy and freedom."

However, a 2004 Pentagon report placed on its Web site tackles this subject with rather more honesty. It reads:

"Muslims do not hate our freedom but rather they hate our policies. The overwhelming majority voice their objections to what they see as one-sided support in favor of Israel and against Palestinian rights. Thus, when American public diplomacy talks about bringing democracy to Islamic societies, this is seen as no more than self-serving hypocrisy."

This is true. Arabs and Muslims are angered by American bias in favor of Israel highlighted each time the UN Security Council attempts to pass a resolution censuring Israel. On almost every occasion the US uses its power of veto and is often the lone dissenting voice.

It is time for the US to revert to the honest broker it once was and for the American people to reassess their country's relationship with Israel.

The day will certainly come when Americans will begin to question the US-Israel relationship and ask whether Israel is truly America's best friend or a state that only pretends to be as long as the US props it up financially, wages wars in its interest and turns a blind eye to its growing catalogue of war crimes.

Indeed.

The US has wasted time, resources, image and popularity because of Israel. Most Arab and Persian badwill towards America stems from the support of Israel.

Saddam’s treatment of Kuwait and Milosevic’s treatment of Bosnia and Kosovo were dealt with quickly by the US. What makes Israel’s treatment of Lebanon any different? Aggression is aggression no matter where it comes from. Of course, Saddam committed many warcrimes against Iran, too. Ignored as well because of America’s then cosy relationship with Saddam and a will to reimpose the Pahlavi regime in Iran.

Sure, Reza Pahlavi will probably end up the next monarch in Iran in 5, 10, 15 years and the US will get what they want via a velvet revolution in that country. It will be of no thanks to the US’s aggressive attitude to Iran at present and will come from an Iranian solution to an Iranian problem. The current government in Iran are weak, divided, too much controlled by irregular armies, etc. but compared to the Israelis, the Khamenei regime is great. Khamenei is not invading other countries and all that Israel is doing. Iran may or may not want a nuke weapon but I’d rather prefer Iran to have one than Israel (who already do and would not hesitate to us it either if it is going to attack Iran).

What sickens me most is that the entire world (from the EU to the US) has to support these Israeli terrorists. Just because Hamas are elected in Palestine means that the EU has to stop funding Palestine. I don’t see Hamas doing much in the line of aggression and they abided by their ceasefire. Israel continue to ignite Palestinian anger that will lead to “terrorist attacks” on the Israelis. For too long, the Israelis have a sympathetic ear in the US and Europe and are hiding behind events that happened 60 years ago to justify today’s aggression.

The US would be better off doing the following:

1. Commence one last Middle East war: regime change in Israel.
2. Normalise relations with Iran, who are inevitably going to set up a secular government there soon. US intervention in Iran will only harden attitudes and create poverty and thus reliance on religion. Since 70% of Iranians now are young and atheist or secular, now is the time for reconciliation .. or else, the US has lost the chance. It had a real good chance to normalise relations with Iran in 2001, but ruined this with that stupid Axis of Evil speach.
3. Concentrate on a pro-Arab campaign.

You’re just another ignorant, hateful Muslim. Everything on this site is bullshit. Give it up you camel lover. Mohammad was a liar, thief, murderer, and a child molester.

Moshe Dayan once remarked “describing Israel’s relationship with the United States”:
“Our American friends offer us money, arms, and advice. We take the money, we take the arms, and we decline the advice.” (Iron Wall, p. 316)

Hatred in the Arab street towards the US is at an alltime high since the Israeli assault on Lebanon and Gaza. I ask my fellow Americans, what do you expect when repeatedly we continue to support Israel no matter what they do? Our un-even-handed approach in a volatile region has brought us nothing but grief. But that should not even be the point. The driving force should be to actually re-evaluate and change our stance because the current stance does NOT meet our own supposed moral values as a nation. As Americans we should be supporting a peaceful resolution to the Mideast crisis which should begin with full withdrawal of the Israeli occupation of Palestinian lands in compliance with international law, UN 242. Next, we should be re-opening the issue of the right of return for the Palestinians as to UN resolution 194. Don’t most Americans agree that we are a “Nation made up of laws”? America and Israel are NOT exempt from being held accountable and if we as a nation TRULY want peace in this region we must first resign ourselves to the fact that we have played a HUGE role in promoting exactly the opposite. Only when the US changes it’s official course in this matter will peace ever be attainable. Without our support Israel would be FORCED to make peace with it’s Arab neighbors rather than continuously to wage war.

BTW, just a question: Didn’t we support Israel in this latest venture in Gaza and Lebanon because of three soldiers? (one taken in Gaza and two in Lebanon) Did all this destruction get them back? What if it had? Would three Israeli soldiers be equal to more than 1500 lives of Lebanese and Palestinians? Do you as Americans actually think this is a way to make friends in the Middle East and promote a peaceful resolution? Could we not have done much better to have laid aside our usual influence (financial, UN votes, military support) and instead used that as a bargaining chip in forcing Israel to face the fact that over 10,000 Arabs are held in Israeli jails for years, many of them without trial (administrative detention http://web.amnesty.org/library/Index/engMDE150031997?OpenDocument&of=COUNTRIES%5CISRAEL%5COCCUPIED+
in complete non-compliance of international law?
No America, Israel as it has been doing business up til now is NOT a friend to America because it has NOT adided by the very values we as a nation proclaim to hold dear.

Why is it that you track back Joe Mamma’s post and you get the CIA??
I am getting a very creepy feeling the least of which has to do with his actual words which are obviously the words of a totally messed up racist idiot.

Dear Joe,
We are all very aware that the CIA is watching and listening. We are also all very aware that if there is a ‘great satan’ (though I laugh heartily at this moniker), then its head is surely the CIA. Thanks for watching. Tune in next time to find the revelation of more of your lies and deceits.
Sincerely Yours,
The Oppressed and Downtrodden

When the world hangs in the balance between giving and taking, the leaders will always take. We should stop handing them flowers.

Why do you think Martin Luther King, Jr. is celebrated, but not Malcolm X? He was also a smart man, and his ideas were a danger to the ruling classes. Read his speeches, insert any ethnic minority or downtrodden people (Palestinian, Lebanese, Hispanic, Native American, Cambodian, etc.) where he says, “black”, and there is the truth of our world.

Israel has been leading the US astray for years.

The current US regime was and has been obsessed for a long time with two countries: Iraq and Iran. Iraq is also known as Babylon and Mesopatamia, Iran is also known as Persia and – unpopular with Iranians themselves – Islamic Republic or Islamistan (the name change advocated by fanatics in 1979 that the people just didn’t buy).

America knows little and Israel knows less about these countries. Proof is that the US somehow thought Saddam and bin Laden could be allies (a secular dictator and a cunning opportunist who uses religion to ferment opposition to regimes like Saddam’s, respectively couldn’t be anything only rivals).

The US has no grasp of what really is going on in Iran (or whatever it is you want to call it!) at the moment. Dr Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, a college lecturer and not a Mullah, wants one thing: to be top dog in Iran (although he may not like the comparison (no Iranian would after that 8 year war in the 1980s that really did involve WMD!), he would like to be the Iranian/Persian Saddam!). Not only is Ahmadinejad not religious in the least, he is also probably the most pro-Western leader (Masters, PhD, etc.) Iran has had for years!!

Then, why does he “act religious”? Two reasons: The Islamic Republic of Iran – the compromise name after Islamistan was rejected back in 1979 – vets its presidential and mayoral candidates. If they are a Mullah, grand (Khatami was liberal but he could afford to be as he was, er, a Mullah). Ahmadinejad would be treated very very suspiciously if he (being an educated, non-Mullah) acted like Khatami. To make it, he had/has to play the game. Ayatollah Khamenei is the ultimate power in Iran and is Ahmadinejad’s chief competition, too.

Ahmadinejad wants the Presidency (hell, he may even have designs to be the next Shah) to overtake the Supreme Leadership. Anti Israel, anti-West and nationalist/Islamist rhetoric (all the while allowing the people to get on with their lives most of the time) means that the clerics cannot knock their competition and it also means that a jittery, weak government gets weaker and weaker while Ahmadinejad gets stronger and stronger.

Once Ahmadinejad’s “extremist act” achieves the divisions he likes and the fanatic ministers he deliberately appointed to make the regime unpopular with the people (it is already), and Ahmadinejad himself does all the nice things for the people (he is a populist), Ahmadinejad suddenly is No. 1 power in Iran and can side then with the military who will overthrow the government. Ahmadinejad can be:

PResident for Life.
Shah.
Do a deal with the West.
Anything he likes.

Once he has got his enemies (the clergy) out of the way.

In the last while, this is what is happening. Certain ministries of the regime have attempted clampdowns on the people while Ahmadinejad has done the opposite personally (the West do not see this distinction). Ahmadinejad has spoken out against Israel and the West, ensuring he is not seen by the regime as the Trojan horse he really is. Such corrupt and unpopular Iranian leaders as Rafsanjani have never been more marginalised. Even Khamenei (the most powerful leader in Iran from 1981 (yes, even A LOT more powerful than Ayatollah Khomeini (who personally I always regarded as a mere figurehead for more powerful younger elements behind him) – he was a lot younger and in good health) to date) has less power than he has ever had. And the government has never been as weak and divided over many issues. Also, the people hate the traditional Islamic regime but seem to see Ahmadinejad rather differently. In other words, our very clever PhD graduate (who spent his whole working life developing and testing strategies) has his plan and it is working.
