Under US law, torture is illegal SUPPOSEDLY, yet we have politicians and others openly supporting the use of torture as a means to obtain intelligence. Gitmo is a fine example of a "nice detention center". It is presented to the American public as a model program when we all know just how many people have been imprisoned there unjustly and released after years of detention with no legal hearings because we've gotten around that little legality also. With rendition, we use third countries to torture and even try to change the meaning of the Geneva restrictions on this practice. The world sees this and what do they say? Well, that all depends on whether you are a potential victim or a potentional user of this method. Does it work? It works in one significant manner, to further degrade America's standing by proudly parading hypocrasy. It also works in another significant manner, it creates MORE terrorism thus keeping these fascist monsters in business because they use it as their justification.
Quite simply put, in my own humble opinion, it is America and America alone who is fueling this phenomena OPENLY. The Bush administration's brazen policy is gobbled up by Americans who are in a constant fear-mode AND see America as non-complicent in the problem. This is the craziest damn ideology which completedly defies all logic. I don't know what else to say, as an American I fear my own country more than I do a terrorist attack. How many more Khaled El Masris are there out there? I am absolutely sure there are many.</description>
