Uh, hate to tell you but re-runs of 1970’s game shows outdraw ol’ keith’s show(No joke). He is LAST among all networks in his time slot. He replaced Phil Donahue who had poor ratings, and he is nopw doing less well than Donahue when he was fired.You can see why. I’m sure both people who watch his show really agree with him.
It is not a matter of agreement or disagreement, Steve. This is not a contestable opinion, it is merely highlighting facts.
But, I guess in another 100-200 years, when your offspring have written and rewritten the history books, the facts will be about as clear as the Native Americans having been vicious savages.
We are so thankful that the US government is protecting us from ourselves and the fearful world we live in.
If we get the chance to grovel for more of its benign legislation, domestic and foreign policies, please inform us. I shall prepare the sack cloth and ashes.
Keith Olberman IS the Edward R. Murrow of our days. Edward R. Murrow came to fame for his reporting during WWII but more so, when he published a series of reports which ended in censorship of Senator Joseph McCarthy who was chairing the Committee on Un-American Activities which during the Cold War years was a so-called attempt at uncovering communists but in affect became a witch hunt blacklisting many prominent Americans who spoke out against our government’s policies. That was in the 50’s. The term “McCarthyism” became part of the American language coining all those who sought to intimidate through fear anyone opposing our government. Now we have the fascist neo-cons in control of the US government, attempting to control by fear all those who may oppose them. When is America going to fully wake up to what is happening here? Do any Americans actually believe that in order to protect our country our constitutional rights must be suspended? American is now turned on American by a diabolical regime whose leader said he would be “a uniter, not a divider”. Our military has gone on a rampage across the world where we not only defy our own rules of military conduct but also violate the Nuremburg principles. So, Steve and others of your like, in your feeble attempts to discredit Keith Olberman, just know this, he is the public voice of all Americans who are opposed to the last cell in our bodies what is happening to our country and around the world as a result of our policies. Keith’s voice is joined by the many who as Americans denounce our current domestic and foreign policy. And no neo-con McCarthyist tactics are going to shut us up!!
(PS: Murrow closed his nightly program out with, “Good night and good luck”, a saying that Olberman now says at the end of each of his reports.)
Phil Donohue had higher ratings than “Hardball” when he was fired, Steve. You need to get your facts straight. Then you can figure out why, whatever your political leanings, you can approve of any president naming himself dictator and gutting your rights.
You’re obviously pleased at the idea of imprisoning certain American citizens but I don’t believe that the Bush Administration will confine itself to only designating liberals as enemy combatants. Even if they remove all of us liberals to undisclosed prisons, the definition of “enemy combatant” and “liberal” will continue to creep until it encompasses almost anyone.
It is hard to read these posts and listen to Olbermann’s foolishness (which I did) without bursting into laughter.You wonder if the people who say this stuff hate their country so much that they want us to lose ,or if they are just misinformed by those who are even more ignorant or hate-filled than they. Just astounding in their misinformation.
This is the TERRORIST DETAINEE BILL. It applies to FOREIGN terrorists or those foreign fighters captured on enemy battlefields. Only. It has nothing to do with US citizens, was passed overwhelmingly by BOTH houses of Congress,signed into law by the Prez,is historically in accordance with US practices,does provide for appeals to DC Court of Appeals, is in accordance with Supreme Court directives,etcetera.

I loved that piece by Olbermann! I am not one of those countless Americans (Democratic or Republican) who stood by and did nothing or, worse yet, did not even notice what basic freedom we just lost. Most people I have spoken to about this in the past week have NO IDEA what Habeas Corpus is. Steve. I think I love you. Its such a pleasure to see that not all Americans on the internet [and even those too ignorant to know what a computer is but still speak badly about our president] are as ignorant and easily frightened as most of the people posting on this thread.
Just as Steve said, this applies to internationals and not US citizens. WE have our basic human rights still in tact. If the president were to claim any of us as enemy combatants he couldn’t get away with it alone. We [the American people] are still entitled to know why we’re being detained AND entitled to a fair trial to PROOVE our involvement in terrorism. And if you were to get picked up you must already be a dam fool for making yourself seem like a suspect!
The show by Keith was on a widely known LIBERAL station, as well as the guest speaker they got to ‘translate’ for them was picked because he was a liberal that would speak in their favor. All the things said are true, but to an extremist extent. There are more conditions and loops to get around than what was being mentioned. And they did it as a plan JUST to scare you guys. JUST to fire up that anti-Bush inside of you. Its all about ratings, most of the time. So that video was 10% fact 90% false.
Get a better handle on reality guys. You’ll live longer from less stress. :3
