This reminds me of an old Canadian winter tradition called “bumper-shining”. In the middle of winter, when the roads were nice and icy, you’d hang on to the bumper of a bus or car and go for a ride. It began losing popularity when the started making bumpers that weren’t as easy to grab onto…

You think that one is bad, check out Saudi “street drifting”
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xRZWzcPqgNI
Note that this “passtime” is done on public streets, DURING traffic, with bystanders standing all over watching at close range. There are DOZENS of these videos if you just search “Saudi Arabia” on you tube.
It was dangerous enough traveling on the roads 25 years ago when I was there.
I wouldn’t dare to venture out to the souk if I thought I might run across a group of these death-wish idiots!!! Ayeeee!!! and not so funny when you see what could and does happen while participating in this “activity”.
(my daughter found these clips last week)
Maybe the above video is a demo ad for Heelies!! (shoes with retractable rollers built in that the CHILDREN drive their parents nuts with here in the States)

I’ve done sillier things when I was young and just as dangerous. It’s the nature of youth to thing you are invincible. It actually looks kind of fun if you don’t think about what could happen to the poor idiots.

Must be nice to have roads so smooth you can do that too. Here in the States you’d get half a mile before you’d face plant in a pot hole on our best highways.

That’s exactly what happen when the Bedouins own cars instead of camels. Pure ignorance and piles of stupidity.

  • 29 November, 2006, 0:37

Are you telling me that non Bedouins don’t do such thing (and worse)? Ok, what does make a man/women civilized? Oh… maybe walking naked in the street!

Crocker, your comment is racist and as ignorant as those guys you describe, don’t you think so?

PS. No doubt they are stupid… but hey, so is G.W. Bush :-D

From camel to Cadillac…literally. I live in Saudi Arabia…and one of the coolest things in the minds of most young teens is ‘drifting’. In my city they even have an area in the outskirts called ‘The Square’ which is literally a large empty block a mile long on all sides with a huge open space on one of the corners in which they come racing a whole mile and do huge drifts before reaching the open space. Lives have been lost…all over the nation…but seeing a new style come up, I don’t think we’ve seen the end of it.
