  You spoke my thoughts loud Haitham .. I did not relate to this as an Arabic event. The whole show felt Asian and far Asian .. those only scattered scenes of a men wearing an arabic dress , along with that “Wedding” were the only arabic things .. but as you said , there is a lot more to show to the world about the arabic and even the gulf Asia..

  the whole concept of the ceremoney was based on the gulf heritage that the sailors of the gulf used to go get their food and treasures from the sea, while the arabic sailor went looking for goods he lost his way and was found in the beautiful and rich land of asia, then he came back 2 the women who (as known in the culture of the gulf) used to sing for the sea to return their loved ones. the man returns home with the treasures of asia and then they have a big wedding where dancers from various countries join the celebration(the ones with the main attention on the main stage are arabs, and there were many doing dabkeh down along with the asians)
  the men with the drums all around the athletes were dressed in the traditional clothes of arabs, and the torch bearers are all arabs
  this is not to say that these are (arabic games) because they are not, they are the asian games and cannot ignore the enormous asian cultures and shouldnt, it should unite and have a bit of all, as for the rabic part it had alot.
  it is sad to sea that while the whole world was pleased and impressed with the ceremony (asians along with the rest of the world) you find arabs who can do nothing but critisize and hate eatch other, and in this case for a reason that doesnt exist!!! theer was alot of parts of the show inspired by arabic culture, and yes nice parts from asia, its the asian games isnt it??!!

  For future situations use this to translate http://translate.google.com/translate_t
  Copy the Arabic text (in this case the above), paste it into the translate box (at the google language tool page), where it says “Spanish to English” click the check, then hit Arabic to English BETA then click translate.
  Sometimes the translation is poor and hard to understand but you can at the least get the general idea of what the article is saying.

  They are the ASIAN games not the Arab games.

  Plus, what about all the display of scientific achievements by the Arabs. THe whole Astrolabe concept was Arab.. and final stunt to light the flame was very Arab.

  I really think that you are misjudging the situation.

  When are we going to get over this infatuation with an inflated Arab identity.

  Who said it is Arab Games? All what I’m saying is that Asia INCLUDES Arab, and if they have space to show all the East Asians culture, then, why not Arab too? That is fair to ask, I think!

  I’m not going to Argue the Astrolabe thing, but that does not make Beironi an Arab, thus what he invented is not Arab too. If the games were “Muslim Games,” then Beironi would have been a good choice.

  As I said, the opening was brilliant and exciting, but missed a chance to show part of the Arab heritage and culture (among other Asians)… anyway…

  The opening ceremony was throughly a for all Middle Easterners, Persians, and Arabs.
  Good for you Qatar, you pleased the Asian Olympic committee, you will get to host the event later again! good for you!
  But was it so important for you to host the game that you lost all your culture and reduced yourself to dust! And all other Middle Easterners?!!
  Next time you want to do it just be Qatar, don’t be middle east. If you don’t have a culture, and a heritage you are proud of, we do. And next time when you reduce your self to dirt, don’t take from us Iranians to raise yourself again. How was Abu Ali Sina from Qatar?!! and Farabi!!? and Abu Rayhan Biruni?!!
  I was shocked!!!
  what shocked me even more was that Ahmadinejad stayed there and listened to that, and didn’t make a move out of frustration and anger.
