Warning: Contains scenes of violence and torture. May not be suitable for all audiences.

This documentary shows some of the victims of wholesale torture taking place inside the U.S. prison system. [Hat tip: Kimmy]

The images of abuse and brutality recordings are horrifyingly familiar. These were exactly the kind of pictures from inside Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq that shocked the world.

“A record 7 million people - or one in every 32 American adults - were behind bars, on probation or on parole by the end of last year, according to the Justice Department. Of those, 2.2 million were in prison or jail, an increase of 2.7 percent over the previous year, according to a report released Wednesday.

More than 4.1 million people were on probation and 784,208 were on parole at the end of 2005. Prison releases are increasing, but admissions are increasing more.” (November 30, 2006)

The above video and links don’t even go into the death penalty issue, where most executions worldwide are carried out in a handful of countries, China, Iran, Saudi Arabia and the United States. Just to note, George Bush, while govenor of Texas, ordered more executions than any govenor in US history, 131!! http://www.commondreams.org/headlines/061100-01.htm
