Palestinian Unity Government: Yes!

Finally we have a unity government with very ambitious program. This unity government is the first in the Arab world. Something all Palestinians are proud of.

On the other hand, look at the so called democratic system in Israel, even before the Palestinian government presented their program, they rejected to deal with it.

Following is some highlights of the main points in the Palestinian unity government program:

    - The government shall respect the international legitimacy resolutions and the agreements that were signed by the PLO.

    - The government’s main goal is to establish an independent Palestinian state in the territories occupied in 1967.

    - The government rejects the establishment of a state in provisional borders.

    - To cling to the right of the Palestinian refugees and right of return to their lands and properties.

    - The government seeks to consolidate a strong foundation of peace, security and prosperity for the whole region, for all generations, present and future.

    - The government will work on consolidating the calm and expanding it to become a comprehensive reciprocal truce happening at the same time between both sides and this should be in return for Israel halting its occupation measures on the ground in terms of assassinations, arrests, incursions and home demolition and leveling of lands and the digging works in Jerusalem and it should work on removing the checkpoints and reopening the crossings and lifting all the restrictions on movement and the release of prisoners.

    - The government affirms that resistance is a legitimate right of the Palestinian people as granted by the international norms and charters; our Palestinian people have the right to defend themselves in face of any Israeli aggression and believes that halting resistance depends on ending the occupation and achieving freedom, return and independence.

    - The government will work for the immediate and speedy solution of the problem of the Israeli soldier (Gilad Shalit, captured by Hamas-allied militants in June), on the basis of an exchange of prisoners.

    - The government affirms that conducting negotiations with Israel is the authority of the PLO and the head of the Palestinian Authority, on the basis of sticking to national objectives, and with the understanding that every agreement will be presented to a new Palestine National Council or to a public referendum.

    - The government calls on the United States Administration to reconsider its unjust positions towards the Palestinian cause and calls on the need to respect the option of the Palestinian people as realized and translated in the national unity government.

Despite all of above, Israel don’t want peace and they reject to deal with the Palestinian government. Fine, they have given up the whole issue of negotiation to President Abbas and PLO. What excuse do Israel have now? Palestinian government accept 1967 borders, which in other words accepting Israel state on it’s borders. What else they want?

Let’s see who want peace and who will fight it. I’m happy to see my people united behind this government, however, I’m not optimistic about peace process because I believe that that is not what Zionist are looking for.
