Recent poll reveals steep rise in racist views against Arabs in Israel; many participants feel hatred, fear when overhearing Arabic, 75 percent don’t approve of shared apartment buildings.”

Over half of the Jewish population in Israel believes the marriage of a Jewish woman to an Arab man is equal to national treason, according to a recent survey by the Geocartography Institute.

lol, haitham if we polled everyone in the Arab world I would expect 95% to say that an Arab marrying an Israeli is national treason.

the fear, hatred, xenophobia and yes, even racism, consumes both our societies…israeli and arab.

the goal at this point in history is for both sides to replace those elements with peace, co-existance and respect. there are no other alternatives

otherwise those other attributes will just end up eroding us both; probably us Arabs more.

    just a thought

I agree with Nas. I actually started to write a comment shortly after this was posted, but I got distracted by something at work and by mistake closed my browser later.

I don’t see the benefit to us in this poll’s findings and don’t see the feasibility of its use in exposing any extraordinarily negative sentiment among the jewish population in Israel. Sure, there is a negative sentiment, but it’s nothing that both sides are willing to live with and mutually exchange even in the long term. At least this what it seems like today on both sides.

    Hey, long time buddies :-)

Anyway, the difference is historically big. Arabs and Muslims hate Jews* not because they are Jews, but because what Jews, or should I say, Israel-Zionist, did and continue doing to Arab and Palestinian. Contrary to what they teach their kids about Arab, I haven’t seen Arabs teaching the same about Jews. Yes, our teaching system embed hatred to Israelis in general, but not Jews in particular. That’s a big difference.

If we look at it from religious point of view, we, and everyone else but them, are nothing. That’s what they teach. The Jews are called human beings, but the non-Jews are not humans. I haven’t heard of any teaching system that spread the same. If any, I would love to know about it.

Contrary to that, Muslims can marry Jews and Christians, there is no discrimination about race here, contrary, it is rooted in the teaching of the Zionist-Jews. However as I said, it is hatred that goes back to what “Jews” have done and still doing to Arabs and Palestinians.

Just one last thing; I’m not defending Arab or Muslims, yes they have bad like Jews have, however looking at roots of the issue is important here because after all the whole conflict is tied to religious believes by “Jews”.

    * When we (Arabs) use the word “Jews” in our talk, generally we mean the Israelis and Zionists, not the Jews as a religious group. However we all know that Israel uses the religious stamp (Judaism) to cover it’s crimes and apartheid. At the end of the day, they call it “the Jewish state,” therefore, unfortunately, Jews have to carry out the sins that their Zionist state is committing against humanity (including Jews).

    Correction to my previous comment:

“but it’s nothing that both sides are not willing to live with and mutually exchange even in the long term.”

Haitham, you’re only adding more coals to the fire by bringing in arguments that can be responded to in the same way that the main argument in this post will be responded to by the other side. My point, and Nas’s point, is that there is no use and no advantage in talking about this because it exists almost equally on both sides. Yes there is a lot of negative sentiment on the Israeli side, but we can’t jut point to it and even call it racism when we know the same thing happens on our side as well. Nothing better demonstrates this than the story of an Arab man and a Jewish woman who fell in love and got married. They were shunned by both sides. He says “There were threats. People said if I brought my wife here we’d be in danger. Even my friends said that. They say I am a traitor… It makes me wonder whether I want to be a Palestinian any more. Some see me as some sort of Israeli envoy.” [LINK]

This post is not about text books, it’s not about which side did more wrong to the other, this post has a simple argument which is: the majority of jewish Israelies are racist because they said they consider an Israeli woman who who marries an Arab a traitor”.

Do you have any doubt that an even larger majority of Arabs and Palestinians would not only consider a woman of their who marries a Jewish Israeli a traitor, but that they would also seek to kill her?

This is why this is simply not worth discussing.

I agree with you Hamzeh, but you missed the point. I’m not discussing here if this is less or more racism than what we have - or as I said, defending Arabs or Muslims - but that everyone should know that “the great democracy of Israel” is not less racist than others! In fact, this is just another brick in the wall of Israel racism.

Now the question is: are they less racist than any other? By all definitions, they are the worst racist system ever. Not talking about marriage only, but add to the basket all what the state of Israel conduct against Arabs and Muslims.

My mother considered me a traitor.
I was born Danish. My wife was born Canadian. She is part Native. Her mother was born German.
I don’t dwell on the past. I love my wife. This May 11th it will be 34 years of happily married life. Just my view.
My mother (who was raised Jewish), hated my wife.
    The war is over!
I judge everyone equally! I don’t judge you for your religion, for your nationality or for your race.
If I did Haitham wouldn’t let me post here!
The only time I judge people is when they are biased of other people.
As Jesus said (I am not religious), “let who is without sin, throw the first stone”.
I can’t think of any Zionist that can throw the first stone.
    I can’t. My wife can’t.
    Can you?

    I can’t!
