“The moment of truth has arrived, and it has to be said: Israel does not want peace. The arsenal of excuses has run out, and the chorus of Israeli rejection already rings hollow. Until recently, it was still possible to accept the Israeli refrain that “there is no partner” for peace and that “the time isn’t right” to deal with our enemies. Today, the new reality before our eyes leaves no room for doubt and the tired refrain that “Israel supports peace” has been left shattered,” said Gideon Levy.

Why do you say that there is a palestinian partner for peace?
Just the other day, Hamas announced that they have volunteers lining up for suicide attacks, and that they would automatically reject any proposal that tries to changes the “refugee” status of palestinians.
Seems to me that a group wich is recruiting terrorists, and trying to keep its own people as stateless refugees isn’t really interested in peace.
Interesting!
Can you show me where did you read this or is it a conclusion you came up with? And I didn’t get the “refugee” thing? Are you saying that Hamas wants refugees should stay refugees or the rejected the Zionist plan for refugees? And one more thing, are you telling me that Israel accepts the International laws and will abed to allow refugees to return home but Hamas rejected? Is this a new fiction film or what?
Not to go round and round, Arab leaders proposed a peace plan which they all agree to (that does not mean that all Arab and specially Palestinians agree to), but guess who rejected it? So, are you telling me that Israel can’t find a partner while all Arab leaders extended their hands for peace? Sorry, but this is insane.
Haitham:
Here is the link to a news article, quoting Khaled Meshaal as saying:
“Hamas will not back down. We will not give up on a single metre of our homeland,” Meshaal said to thunderous applause.
“We will and we must continue in the path of resistance,” he added.

The refugee issue also came from a Hamas statement, quoted in the Israeli paper Arutz Sheva:
“No one has the right to surrender or negotiate away the right of return,” the official Hamas statement said. “Even if the refugees themselves would be willing, they have no right to surrender their status as refugees, and their decisions would be null and void,” it said.

Sounds to me like Hamas no zero interest in any sort of compromise. They’ll force their people to keep “stateless refugee” status, even if the refugees are willing to make a deal, and they reject any kind of partition plan.
Rejecting partition plans is just par for the course: the Arab states did that in ‘48, the responded to a overture for negotiation in ‘67 with the “three no’s: no peace, no negotiation, no recognition” and Arafat responded to partition plans in 2000/1 with a terrorist campaign.
As for the Arab League’s recycling of the Saudi initiative, it seems like a non-starter; they are saying that, for any negotiations to even begin, Israel must accept, in advance!, the Arab League’s vision of a final settlement. That’s not a negotiation or a peace initiative; it’s an ultimatum.
A peace negotiation would be to say, “Here is what we want to see; let’s see where your wants and needs intersect our wants and needs.”
michael,
So, what is wrong with that? He is expressing what millions of Palestinians believe in. As a member of the Palestinian nation, he and Hamas and any other Palestinian has the right to claim his stolen land.
What you maybe referring to hear are two points: 1) is not give up a meter of our homeland, and 2) path of resistance.
1) Well, let me explain to you this. Israel is asking Hamas to recognize Israel, however, what every one is missing here is the point that Israel itself is not recognizing itself. In other words, Israel does not have fixed borders to be recognized. So how can you ask someone to recognize a ’self diluted’ country with no international borders?3
2) You are denying Palestinian refugees to claim their stolen land, which is not lawful by any means. Therefore, it is Palestinian right not to give up on a single meter of the homeland. Justice and fair solution leaves it to the refugee to give up what he wish ONLY AFTER he takes back his rights. No one has the right to negotiate on ‘rights’. We can negotiate on mechanism, but not basic rights.
3) Palestinians, like all and any other nation in the history has the right to resist the occupation. Algerians resisted the french occupation, no body called that terrorism. France resisted German occupation, no one called that terrorism etc… It is normal and natural to resist the germs when they attack the body. Same goes on the occupation.
First of all, this source has no credibility, at least for the Palestinians. Second, no one has the right to give up the refugees rights, not even the refugees. That said, that does not mean that all refugees don’t have that right, but it means that if all refugees dropped their rights (which is impossible), if one refugee doesn’t give up his right, refugee rights hold no matter what.
That’s true. The Arab League plan is not for negotiation, because it is a result of tens of years of negotiations. See, what they are saying is that: “this is the solutions for all your problems. Take it all or leave it all.” Although I personally don’t agree to it, however Israel is not even considering it as a bases for negotiation because if they accepted it, it means the end of the Zionism dream, which they will not give up. It simply says, withdraw to ‘67 borders and live in peace for ever. Nothing to negotiate about, but Israel wants to negotiate because they don’t want to go back to ‘67 borders and abed by all UN resolutions.
“Until recently, it was still possible to accept the Israeli refrain that “there is no partner” for peace and that “the time isn’t right” to deal with our enemies.”
PLEASE! what a load of crap. You know Haitham sometimes i wonder are Arabs really this stupid? Why, WHY would you link to a zionist? There has been a “partner for peace” since the inception of that vile thing called israhell but THEY refuse to deal with any of them. The Arabs are expected to deal with terrorists like begin, shamir and so on while the jewish terrorists can’t find a partner for peace? Maybe because they keep killing them. Honestly i can’t blame westerners for falling for the zionist propaganda if people like you fall for it.
I dont get it, all this fighting.
Im English (aint proud of it), im aware of the birth of Israel, how it came about.
I went to Israel in 1987 i think it was. I was really struck by how the Israelis treated the Arabs like 2nd class citizens, different coloured number plates on cars etc.
From what i see now israel took the holocaust that they went through and decided it would be a good idea to impose the same thing they suffered onto others. Or sometimes i think its become a subconscious thing, that there is no other way, thats just what your used to now, thats the way ot will carry on untill you wipe each other out. I dont get it.
infact i see holocaust hangover in alot of aspects of Israeli life.
im not a jew , but i was seeing an Israeli lass at the time i went to Israel. Now she was Israeli, jewish yes, but first and formost she said she was Israeli, and she reckoned that the people who were causing all the problems were the orthadox jews from eastern europe. well that came as no surprise to me really i dont think.
I just wish youd all stop killing each other, Arab or Jew. Its a pretty sad state of affairs really wouldnt you agree?
I wish i had a real answer for it, but i dont. I just have to hope you all see sense and stop killing.
bARABie,
Well, it is unfortunate that all Israeli leaders are Zionists and they are all war criminals. If there is something wrong here, it is in the Israeli society who keeps electing war criminals.
They are talking about “peace partner” while Olmert support dropped to less than 3%. It is vague how the world expect Palestinian government which was elected and is in office because they got the majority of the votes, to negotiate with someone who has 2-3% support from his people?!!!
pete,
Do you know that the ratio of killing is 8:1 (Palestinian to Israeli)? Read more:
http://sabbah.biz/mt/archives/2007/02/26/so-who-is-the-terrorist/
You know that Israel is responsible for at least 97.8 percent of serious human rights abuses? Read more:
http://sabbah.biz/mt/archives/2007/04/11/researcher…..uses-in-conflict/
Now, who should be asked to stop the killing? It is not fair to ask Palestinians for something they are not doing and blaming them just equally with the real criminals!!!
Haitham i notice you avoided the other part of my comment, maybe you should read between the lines when reading articles by jewish authors. all the best btw.
you’re site takes forever to load.
bARABie:
Just look at the facts.
The Palestinians have lost land to the Israeli settlers.
They are only trying to get their land back.
Israel doesn’t recognice that fact.
Israel takes the attitude that their stolen land is theirs.
This means that if I steal from a bank that it is my money?
If I steal something from you it is mine?
If I occupy your house and you it is OK?
If I torture you it is OK?
These are the rules the Israelis are working under. With the US consent!
Please come back to reality.
Jews are a loving people.
Zionists are destroying this world.
bARABie,
I checked my blog several times and I don’t see any problem in uploading. Does this happen to you always?
Haitham: not always but it has occurred a few times, today it loaded faster than usual.
Kimmy: WTF?????????????????
Come again?
“Jews are a loving people.
Zionists are destroying this world.”
Let me see, what is the % of jews and what is the % of zionists? lol
Right we should classify that one percent as jews and label the other 99% zionists, even though they both believe in the same talmud and torah. ok.
glad we sorted that one out.
not forgetting kimmy both the 1% and the 99% call THEMSELVES jews but WE should differentiate, brilliant.
It is sad Sabbah that you don’t publish comments that speak the truth.
I find that a lot with blogs that are either anti-Jewish or anti-Israel.
I guess you really know the truth, but can’t handle it, and you have to keep your false presumptions going because without them you have nothing.
Certainly pro-Israel and pro-Zionist are not welcomed here because we have enough shit of them all around the planet. I like to keep my blog clean from their crap which they call truth. They already occupy the media all around and hardly anyone can speak the truth without having them jumping in to distract the audience from their crimes and they start yearning and crying about their painful history while they are committing crimes that are more devastating than what they passed through.
“I find that a lot with blogs that are either anti-Jewish or anti-Israel.”
Guess what ahole? i am anti you xxxxxxxx but i still publish your crap.
I prefer people read your crap and know how twisted you animals are.
Haitham, sorry but this is the last time i post here, this business with the characters is ridiculous. good luck.
It is off now, but this will add more load on me to filter spam. A waste of time…
As for you publishing the crap of pro-Zionists, all what I can say is: Enjoy it, but be careful. Personally this discouraged me from following some of my preferred blogs (like peacepalestine) because of all the Zionist crap that fills the comments section. In other words, the soon will occupy the blog. Do we have to give them this privilege to occupy more of our properties? I guess not.
Haitham you make a very good argument re zionists occupying more of our property but i can’t help myself, i feel everyone should be heard, regardless of what they have to say. I do ban or alter comments but only when they provide personal information about other posters. Re the verification, it is your blog and you obviously have every right to put up a verification system but in my case, i find it very annoying and it usually prevents me from commenting. As for not visiting sites because zionists pollute them, isn’t the whole idea of comments being in a separate area to allow one to view the blog? If you like a blog but don’t like the comments, why would that prevent you from visiting such blog? You don’t have to read the comments of that blog, just the blog.
Generally i skip zionist comments if i know they are zionists.
Anyway take care and you know i do love your work, most of the time.
