[Source: Sami Awad] Palestinian activists plant 32 Olive trees south of Bethlehem, in memory of the victims of the Virginia Tech Massacre:
Every Friday, Palestinians, internationals, and Israeli nonviolent activists gather in the Southern villages of Bethlehem to protest against the building of the Apartheid Wall that will eventually destroy the livelihood of these villages. This Friday, the protest began with a silent procession by the group of about fifty participants. We carried banners and leaflets with the Virginia Tech logo and statements supporting them in this time of pain. Thirty two olive trees were also carried in the procession to remember each person killed in the massacre. The olive tree is a global symbol of peace and hope.
Once we reached the path created by the by the bulldozers for the building of the Apartheid Wall we dug the earth and plated the thirty two olive trees in a row - instead of building an ugly wall that divides people, let us plant trees that bring people together. Several of the participants made statements condemning the violence that we all, as the human family are witnessing and condemning the building of the Apartheid wall and the killing of innocents. Over 150 Israeli soldiers came to dismantle our protest. Our commitment to nonviolence and to achieve our goal completely paralyzed their weapons and their goals and eventually our power made them withdrawal. The planting of the trees was followed by reciting the names of all those who were killed in the Virginian massacre followed by a fifteen minute period of silence before the group moved back to the villages. Terrorists planting olive trees for VT?
Is this just another conspiracy?
NO! It is the Palestinians understanding acts of terror and showing their sympathy.
Why can’t the US see this?
The hatred from both sides has to stop.
Both Muslims and Christians have to talk.
Get rid of the radicals.
First phase has to be the removal of the Jewish settlers in Palestein to make it an honest attempt. This will be the biggest step.
Second phase has to be open dialogue between both sides. This will be the second biggest step.
Third phase has to be an actual work to stop radicals on both sides. This will be the easiest step if the first two were followed.
You have inspired me, where I live in a Country America that has so much and many of you have lived in a Country where there is so much war, hate and fighting and now a wall. God bless you, I will say extra prayers for my brother and sister Palestinians. May the growth of the trees bring growth of freedom to all of you and the growth of the trees bring peace to you wonderful beautiful and thoughtful people. Peace, Joe
Joe Omar Gonzales,
The trees won’t grow because they are planted on lands that the Zionist want for their wall.
Even though they are on Palestinian lands.
Pray all you want, but these plants will be destroyed by Israel.
What happened at VT was terrible and should never happen again.
This happens almost every day in the Gaza strip and the West Bank.
The US news and reality is not told to everyone.
I am very sorry to tell you this. Again I appologise.
The truth has hurt me too, but I now follow both sides of the story to get to the truth. And the truth is starting to hurt.
I was a follower of the Jewish faith, but I am now a non-believer.
I now see the Zionists as terrorists. The Jews are now sheep.
Just like many people in the US.
Once the people in the US see what the Zionists are doing in the Middle East the world will be better off.
