The African National Congress (ANC) in Parliament yesterday used the 40th anniversary of the Six-Day War to launch a blistering attack on the Israeli government, resulting in bitter exchanges with the Democratic Alliance (DA) across the floor of the National Assembly.

Intelligence Minister Ronnie Kasrils, himself Jewish, led the attack with a strident summary of the history of the Middle East conflict that condemned the “Zionists” and suggested that the total occupation of Palestinian territory had always been the aim of the Israeli state. He said that a variety of Israeli leaders had admitted that they had been the aggressors in the 1967 war.
