Wonderful comment by Kimmy.. Sabbah, how do you perceive it? You live there, do you feel any differences among the people, or is it a truly multicultural society.. In Europe we try to force unification now, but it seems such thing is natural in the Middle East..

I live close to two Native Reservations.
I hate the word “Reservation”. It tells me that they are different when they are not.
There is no difference between reservations and the Gaza Strip and the West Bank. Except that the violence on the rservations took place a hundred years ago.
Many people won’t go into the reservations after nightfall because of the crime.
Why? Because they are held in contempt because they won’t accept the White Man’s way.
I have never had a problem. I accept these people as my equals. I don’t even lock my service truck when I am there.
If people would only understand that accepting other people who are different and treat them as just like yourself many problems would dissapear.
They are only different because you see them as different.
Just remember that you seem different to them.
The only people I see as different are radicals as O’sama, Bush, Cheney, etc.

I don’t object to this article, and I doubt the author will read it. But this paragraph really upset me, so I’m responding here.

Although no one should trivialise the wrongs done to Native Americans during the westwards expansion of the United States, only a rudimentary knowledge of Palestinian life in the centuries prior to the advent of Zionism is necessary to understand that such comparisons are ludicrous in the extreme. While few indigenous peoples north of Mexico had advanced beyond a Neolithic, or even Mesolithic, cultural stage by the time Europeans arrived, Palestinians had maintained for centuries a sophisticated economy and culture based on agriculture and vibrant mercantile traditions.

Such comparisons are anything but ludicrous. I think the parallels between settler societies like the US, Australia, and Israel are really compelling and should be highlighted as a form of coalition building. But this kind of bullshit makes me so angry. Like the American Indians didn’t have a “sophisticated economy and culture”? Or like that would excuse/justify genocide? So fucked up. Instead, why not focus on how it’s fucked up to think that “progress” of any sort could justify what happened in Palestine OR the US?
