Jewish only schools, roads, marriages, and of course, Jewish only land

Zionism_Ben_HeineEven if that land happens to be owned by Palestinians… Israel has over a million non Jewish (Palestinian/Arab) citizens, and while it pretends to be a “democracy” - and as politicians and media the world over parrot the phrase “the only democracy in the Middle East” as if saying it made it so, and as if they were deaf and blind - it is continuously and without international objection passing racist apartheid laws.(And while the rest of the world struggles with the absorption of immigrants, Israel simply deports non Jewish citizens, throws them into jails, or creates “tent cities” for them. Also without a word of objection from the “democratic” world. [Hat tip: David Cohen]

Bill allocating JNF land to Jews only passes preliminary reading

The Knesset plenum approved a bill Wednesday, in its preliminary reading, which calls for all lands under the Jewish National Fund (JNF) to be allocated to Jews only.

The bill, initiated by MK Uri Ariel (National Union-National Religious Party), MK Zeev Elkin (Kadima), and MK Moshe Kahlon (Likud), is geared to bypass a 2004 court ruling which annulled an Israel Lands Administration (ILA) policy that prevented Arabs from participating in bids to purchase land owned by the JNF.

As a result of the ruling, Attorney General Menachem Mazuz decided that all land managed by the ILA, including land owned by the Jewish National Fund, will be marketed without discrimination or limits including to non-Jews.
The JNF owns 13 percent of state land, purchased for Jewish settlement.

When the bill was discussed in the Knesset presidency, there were demands to null it because it was called racist, but Knesset legal advisor Nurit Elstein said a bill should only be rejected if the racism is explicit in the proposal.

Hadash Chairman MK Mohammed Barakeh called the bill an “abomination legislation” and added that “the Knesset’s face are the faces of Uri Ariel, the radical of the settlers.” He maintained that, “this is another expression of a series of racial laws that are passed every day in the state of the Jews. The Arab population won’t accept the stealing of their rights to the lands that has been expropriated from them for years.” … read more here!

They must have learned from the best. South Africa.
I am white, supposed to be a Jew.
Why can I relate better with Canadian Natives, Lebaneese and everyone else who is not white?
Mainly because I don’t see colour, nationality, sex or religion as a factor of my relationship with these people.
White people tend to catagorize people.
I only catagorized people on this post to point out that racism is prevalent in this white dominated world.

The graphic is a bit scary-looking…

Israel has an internal conflict between being a Jewish state and a multi-cultural democracy. Though most of the voices you hear speak for Jewish identity, there is a strong (but quieter) stream that will lead to an identity more like that of the US — multicultural democracy with civil rights for all. (True, the US does not often reach that lofty goal, but at least it has such a goal.)

    An interesting article states:

The larger question confronting the Israeli society is the increasingly apparent contradiction between being a “democratic” state and being a “Jewish” one.

In the Knesset, a bill was recently submitted by Muhammad Baraka, an Israeli-Arab legislator, which proposed to anchor in law the assertion that Israel is a democratic and multi-cultural state. Parliament’s legal advisers, however, considered the bill so subversive that they recommended that it not be sent to the floor for debate. The New York Times reports that, “Mr. Baraka’s proposal, it seems, cleverly omits a sacred point: that Israel values one culture above all others…Whether parliament lets the multiculturalism bill proceed and be voted down remains to be seen. But inside and outside the legislature, the debate is already raging, a national soul-search about Israel’s identity and just how central Jewishness—much less Judaism—should be.”
