… but 60% US Jews have NEVER been in Israel
Most U.S. Jews never visit Israel
Sixty percent of American Jews have never visited Israel, according to the Jewish Agency.
In a report to Prime Minister Ehud Olmert’s Cabinet this week, Jewish Agency head Ze’ev Bielski outlined problems in sustaining Diaspora ties to Israel but praised the various programs encouraging outreach and immigration.
“The government and the Jewish Agency face a great challenge in strengthening the connection and the commitment to the State of Israel through many projects, especially the programs bringing young people to Israel,” a Jewish Agency statement quoted Bielski as saying.
Bielski underlined the challenge of strengthening Jewish identity and the connection to Israel among Jews of the Diaspora, noting that 60 percent of North American Jews have never been to Israel. The statement also noted the very limited relationship of hundreds of thousands of young Jews in the former Soviet Union with Israel.
Olmert concluded the session by describing the Jewish Agency as “the main axis of the relationship between the government and people in Israel and the Jewish communities around the world, and this government is committed to enhance this relationship.”
And most of those who have, were there once, for a maximum of two weeks of harried tours and visits to relatives they had never before seen; have certainly NEVER been anywhere NEAR Arab East Jerusalem (which has a bypass road to the West Bank), an Arab Israeli village, an Arab Israeli school, the separation wall, a village in the West Bank (except if they drove there on a Jewish road and spent their time in a nice clean posh Jewish settlement, fenced in and protected by soldiers with lots of weapons), and if there WAS some trouble going on at the time of the visit, the guides rerouted their tour…
Of course, that is not to say that US Jews don’t go on vacation… but maybe they prefer London, or Florence, or taking a cruise… their political interest in Israel is perhaps simply GUILT for having no interest at all!.

After reading your post I found myself completely flabbergasted. I think every statement you made in your response to the article is the exact opposite of myself and many of my friends. I lived in Israel this past year in East Jerusalem. I visited the wall, I went to the West Bank, I went to an Arab village, I visited an Arab school. You cannot begin to group everyone together and expect peace or something positive to come out of it. This hatred of Israel gets you no where and just makes you look even worse to someone like me who does not fit your “typical ZIONIST” mold. Do your own research, ask questions, seek the answers you may NOT be looking for. Then you will find your answers
Dre,
So lets say I’m wrong and I’ll ask few questions as you suggeted:
1) What did you do for peace before, during and after your visiting Israel?
2) Do you support Israel’s occupation of the Palestinian land?
3) Do you support Palestinians right of return?
4) Do you support the war crimes and massacres conducted by the Israeli terrorists?
5) Do you support house demolitions and Israelis ‘family separation laws’?
6) Do you support the ‘Jews Only’ roads and towns?
7) Do you support the kidnapping 700,000 Palestinian since 1967 out of which 11,000 are still kidnapped and in Israeli prisons (including hundreds of children and women)?
etc.. etc..
