Yazan, i agree with you and will elaborate further. Any with any knowledge of computer programming will know it’s impossible to create a program that “spins” in different directions according to how much one concentrates. It’s just not possible.

OK, I think the above quote from Progressive Independent stating the figure is “shifting back and forth” is referring exactly to her change in feet-and the “illusion” of her changing “spinning” positions is precisely because she DOES change feet. Hope that makes sense.

Watch her for a LONG time-I know-patience is a virtue LOL-but look at her as her back faces you in that moment, notice which foot she is standing on as she is “spinning” the way you see her. If it’s her left foot, clench your left hand (I know it sounds silly, but try it) KEEP watching. NOW, eventually she’s going to appear to spin in the other direction, NOW, look at her BACK again as she spins. Which foot is she standing on as she “spins” now (look at her back to determine) Do you see it? She DID change feet in the fleeting moment when you can’t see it because the silohette overlaps. NOW, LOL, I know this sounds silly, but stand on your right foot and LEAD to the left with your left foot up in the air. Now try it the other way, stand on your LEFT foot and lead to the right and spin. See? You’re going in a different direction-and as “I” see it, that’s the trick of this “spinning” image.
(Now I’m DIZZY spinning in my kitchen and I might be ALL washed up!)

Looks it was confusing for some… a friend from http://www.progressiveindependent.com shared the following, which might solve the mystery:

The spinning girl is a form of the more general spinning silhouette illusion. The image is not objectively “spinning” in one direction or the other. It is a two-dimensional image that is simply shifting back and forth. But our brains did not evolve to interpret two-dimensional representations of the world but the actual three-dimensional world. So our visual processing assumes we are looking at a 3-D image and is uses clues to interpret it as such. Or, without adequate clues it may just arbitrarily decide a best fit – spinning clockwise or counterclockwise. And once this fit is chosen, the illusion is complete – we see a 3-D spinning image.

Sounds logical to me :-)

kimmy, another method to get it to change rotation is to look at it closely and then blink your eyes three or four times quickly.

I discovered that you can make the rotation change, at least for me, by putting your hand to cover her up above the waist and just look at the legs.

i had both my partner and my kids look at it and all of us saw her rotating in different directions!!!!
I don’t think the kids really know what they’re talking about, but W* definitly saw her going in a different direction than i did…
