The crime of sitting next to women

Stop! Don’t start predicting. This did NOT happen in any ‘Arabian State’. NOT in a Muslim country/society, but the so called ‘Democracy of Israel’.

Bus: 5 ultra orthodox men beat religious woman & soldier for sitting next to each other

Ha’artz - Five assailants believed to be Ultra-Orthodox Jews assaulted a woman and an Israel Defense Forces soldier Sunday for sitting next to each other on a bus bound for Beit Shemesh, near Jerusalem.

The incident began when the five men asked the religious woman to move to the back of the bus to prevent males and females from sitting together in public. When she refused, they beat her and the male soldier who sat next to her.

Police forces that arrived at the scene to arrest the men were attacked by dozens of ultra-Orthodox men who punctured the tires of their vehicles, allowing the assailants to escape. No one was hurt in the incident.

The ultra-Orthodox community in Beit Shemesh has been at odds with Egged over their demands that the bus company operates so-called “kosher” lines where woman and men are seated seperately.

In 2006 dozens of Haredi protestors took to the streets, hurling stones and eggs to demonstrate against the bus company. In one incident, a bus driver who was attacked fired his handgun in the air to fend off his assailants.

    This bothers me!
We have been married for 34+ years.
The big joke is that I am the President of my own company.
    She is the Dictator!
    We work together.
What I read here is just another story of men telling women what to do.
What I realized is that most religions are about male superiority.
Only if they follow the original texts before the enlightenments.
Islam and Christianity are the most understanding and accepting religions of women till fundamentalists from both sides twist it to suit themselves.
Personal view: Women are superior to us males because they use passion of all of us and not religion.
Religion is not primary, family is!

Wow Fatima, that is one POWERFUL picture, thank you for sharing it.
Did you know that Medea Benjamin, founder of Code-Pink has been denied access to Canada along with Anne Wright? They’re going to try again tomorrow.

So what does this say about our male-dominated world? What does the story above, Fatima’s picture, and these peace activists being banned denote? It denotes that men FEAR women and in the case of Rice, we should ALL fear her. What do they fear though? That’s the question.

    kimmy Says:

    Robin,
    Don’t fear women.
    Accept them.
    Enjoy them.
    Worship them.
    They are our future!

Well Said , kimmy , enjoy them and worship them . :) (but not someone as evil as Condolessa rice , she is vile and a war criminal)

    Robin Says:

Yes Kimmy, you did say it well, but I’m still wondering why men feel they have to dominate women they way they do, I’m really wondering. There are certainly gender differences, but that does not account for the domination such as in the article above or elsewhere. Even worshiping can be detrimental, because when you put someone on a pedestal, you are setting them apart from you. I don’t know, I’m just wondering that’s all.

    Worshiping them is important.
Men have ruled this world for too many years.
    Give women a chance.
They can’t screw it up any more that what the men have done.
Men rule with religion and their pockets.
Women rule with their hearts. (At least most do.)
    GIVE WOMEN A CHANCE!

Haitham, everyone likes to shout about the exceptions of the rules in situations, just like you and the apologists on the left do.

However, the fact is this is an isolated incident.

This kind of behaviour is strictly forbidden in countries that implement sharia law, i.e. Saudi Arabia and Iran.

    Adam Kelly,

Sorry, but I can’t buy in this as isolated incident. This racist discrimination act is not new in Israel.

Have you heard of the ‘Israel’s modesty buses’?

Robin, i think it’s a male trait. They need to dominate everyone and everything, even other men. Must be a male gene.

    kimmy Says:

    baRABie,
    I am a male.
I want a female in power.
As a person from the sixties, with long hair.
I see no difference with women or men. Except that men have ruled for all these times.
    Give Women a chance.
They can’t make it any worse.
There will be fewer wars and fewer conflicts.
    There will be better understanding.
    There will be more communication.
The Taliban would loose its power!
    Think about it.

    Liz P Says:

In your opinion, do you think this incident is related to the perpetrators’ religious fundamentalism or just to a general view of women within Israeli society?

While this incident is horrific, I don’t think this article warrants targeting Israeli society as a unique example of an abuse of women’s rights. I think that it just demonstrates that gender tensions still persist throughout the world.
