Haitham…. you are simply an angel. You have helped me so much in the past and now again. What in the world would I do without you??? I mean that seriously!
Don't mention it dear… We are all parts of the same body and its our duty to care for each other :-)
Hi mate,
I don't know who you are, or anything about you, but thanks for helping me find the new peacepalestine blog
Best wishes,
Forgive me for enquiring but what happened?
hooray! Blogger has reinstated the "old" (there I am calling my three year old OLD!) blog. They examined the case and they apologise and have given it back to its writers, readers and to good old cyber space! They admitted it was a mistake to eliminate it!!!! We are back in the saddle!
Haitham, when you have time, could you back up the entire blog on the new wordpress peacepalestine blog we set up?
Ladies and Gentlemen, you have just witnessed an example of "ask Haitham". This is what the other activists do when you are not looking. And you thought we did all this stuff on our OWN?
Yes, my blog is back, the one you posted up will become a backup and hallelujah, I just don't know how to thank you and all the friends who came to may rescue. You are glorious!
Lafayette McS,
You are welcome! But I guess you can check back the old one. It is back :-)
Blog reader,
It is a long story which I will leave for Mary to explain. I'm sure she will write about it in her blog soon.
Mary (thecutter),
I'm very happy that we won this case. Congrats!
Back up was done and ready to ride ;-)
Thanks so much for everything and that backup! woah! not going to get caught out like that again. The victory was great but there were a few lessons here:
1) Google is reasonable after all and they are not afraid of idiotic accusations out of the blue. They actually investigate and deliberate rather than just get scared by legal threats.
2) Activists working together come to each others' aid in ways that are amazing. Not only was there the technical and the practical dealing with the emergency, but there was the encouragement and support so that we did not feel defeated and just accept things that were unjust and unfair.
3) We should be careful about what people do, not what they claim to be. A lot of us have been watching the "activism games" and many of us are involved in them, with also legal ramifications. It is not easy, but this too is part of our battle, whether we like it or not. We need to be free to do our reporting and communication work. Only that way can the message come through. This means always being vigil and never surrendering to pressure if we know we are in the right.
Yup, I did write about it on the blog!
I'm so glad my blog's back up and running! (although I was getting used to my new "home" as the minutes passed).
thanks for EVERYTHING!!!
If you ask me, Mary, I would not go back to google (blogger) any more. They have very bad history in such cases and their service sucks.
But, I tell you, the way this was handled by them (aside from the initial removal of the site without warning) was really professional. They were not cowed into keeping it off to avoid a suit, they examined the content upon my request and decided it was an unreasonable demand that they pull it, and in less than a day, it was back up.
Yes, had it continued for more than a few days, not to mention, I thought it would be months, given what some had told me, I would have certainly abandoned them permanently, but this was quite a different situation. A friend of mine on Splinder said that blogs are removed from there all the time without explanation.
At least, in this case, it was a good thing…
What your friend told you is what I'm referring to. You are lucky that your case didn't go that extreme, but you never know what the future hides for you. Take Steve case as an example, which is in between (not removed, but denied access)!!!
Anyway, it's your call… the most important thing is that you are back :-)
