Gaza Holocaust in ‘Free’ Media
Written by Haitham Sabbah on 02. March 2008, 2038hrs // Part of Haitham Sabbah's adventure in Censorship, Gaza, Israel, Media, Palestine, UK, USA, War Crimes // Other posts by Haitham Sabbah
It is disgusting. Hardly anything was mentioned in the “free-press” of the democratic Western. In fact the coverage in some cases equals to partner-in-crime.
Here is some examples (click on thumbnail to enlarge. Highlights in blue):
USA media - newspapers:
New York Times: Not a single word!
LA Times: Not a single word!
USA media - online news:
New York Times: Under “More News” a very small line: “Israel Takes Gaza Fight to Next Level in a Day of Strikes”
The Washington Post: Hardly seen one line, “60 Gazans Killed in Incursion By Israeli Forces”
CNN: “Israeli airstrike hits Hamas premier office.”
Not mentioning the civilian house, babes, children and civilians killed. Misleading the mass that Israel is attacking Hamas only. Nothing new!
LA Times: Hardly seen five words (marked in blue), “Israel launches offensive info Gaza.”
Fox news: “54 killed in attack on Militant.”
Doh… they have a discount on the numbers (at the time of their report, more than78 were killed).
At least two dozen Palestinian civilians, including a baby, were among those killed, and militants said 25 fighters died. Health officials said about 200 people were wounded, 14 of them critically.
Although more than 1/3 of the 78 killed were babies and children, Fox says only ONE baby was killed!!!
UK media - online:
BBC website:
Second headline from left (marked in blue): “UN Chief condemns Gaza violence.”
Violence ha? No mention of babies, children and civilians killed!!!
UK - Newspapers:
The Daily Telegraph: Nota a single word!
The Guardian: Not a single word!
The Herald: Not a single word!
![]()
IHT: very small paragraph on the left side of the frontpage.
Germany - online news:
Spiegel: Hardly seen line at the bottom of the website

In Italy it’s the same, actually, In Italy, they are blaming the victims (again). The tv news at lunch time gave (I clocked it) 18 seconds to it, and half of that was Sderot. The same transmission gave Harry 4 minutes and called him “a hero”.
The mid-afternoon report was slightly better, but no number of victims, and still the use of the words that the attacks against Gaza are “retaliation” for Qassam rockets.
thank you for this comprehensive report, Haitham. I will be referring to it further in coming days. It is of utmost importance.
And, as I said in an email, the messages that the 3 US presidential candidates sent to support Israel in this war will (WILL!) in the future be evidence of their complicity and culpability when Israel is taken the the International Human Rights Courts. They will be co-responsible and they will not be able to get away with it.

Today on CNN they briefly have it as headline news saying that there is fighting between Israelis and Palestinians. 70 Palestinians dead. On Yahoo front page I saw a headline news saying that Israel is fighting Hamas??

We all want our problem to be the biggest one everywhere else in the world. There was 300 people murdered in South Africa last week, 50 every day, 20000 last year. How many times did you see that on the world’s front pages. Except of course if there is alledged racism involved by whites.
It is easier to get used to biased reporting than to feel aggrieved about it.

This is sad … yet not unexpected. After all, Palestinians are subhuman as we all know

Very comprehensive reporting Haitham! How did the Arab press cover it?
March 2nd, 2008 at 10:57 pm
Very aggressively, Mohamed!
I’ve not seen any TV station (local and satellite) or newspaper who didn’t DEVOTE major parts of their airtime/forntpage for the massacre in Gaza. Of course best of all was, as always, Aljazeera (Arabic), which in most of the time devoted all their news periods (60 minutes in most cases, sometimes more) to cover Gaza war crimes.
It is unfortunate that Arab media has very limited reach during these tragic periods of human history.

One thing, though: I first read about this online in The Guardian, so they DID write something about it.
March 3rd, 2008 at 1:06 am
Probably everyone wrote about Gaza, but when, what they wrote and how much, this is the question?!
March 3rd, 2008 at 1:16 am
.. and how. We just now got 5 minutes. (I use my watch to time these things). Three were dedicated to Sderot. The two left over were generic pictures of generic tanks nearing the border, injured Israeli soldiers, two slightly wounded Palestinians, an old woman who was in grief and Arab men throwing stones.
You would have died in the Sderot portion. Interviewed 3 sisters who made Aliyah 3 years ago. They are nervous and they said they didn’t know when it was ok to turn on their computers…
These are the problems they are dealing with.
March 3rd, 2008 at 1:27 am
I even heard some people in Sderot are afraid of walking their dogs, poor things. (OK, this might be unfair to the civilians of Sderot - after all, it’s not their fault the media lost all sense of proportionality.)
I can supplement: The two major Danish newspapers Jyllands-Posten and Politiken have a very short story, basically the same agency pick about the Israeli “offensive”.
They quote despicable war criminal Ehud Barak as saying it’s all Hamas’ fault and that’s about it. (http://politiken.dk/udland/article478083.ece)

Great post on the media’s lack of Media Coverage of Gaza, if what is happening to Gaza was happening to Israel the media would be all over the place and the United Nations would be doing something rather then just saying a few words.
A email I got that explains some reasons for some lack of media coverage:
Media Coverage Rules in the Middle East http://windowintopalestine.blogspot.com/2008/03/media-coverage-rules-in-middle-east.html

Today, I wanted to throw up. The morning tv here in Italy has its “press review” of the major papers and internet sites. Well, I didn’t expect them to give a lot of time to Gaza, because that would mean that the papers would have given it space. One newspaper actually did have it on the front page, though, and the Editor of Rai 3 News FLIPPED immediately to pages 4 and 5 where there was only internal politics about our upcoming elections!!!!
then, the internet page was dedicated to… Obama and Billery.
THEN, and this is the worst, we have an Israeli citizen of Palestinian origin who did her “Middle East segment”. Her name is Iman Sabbah and she did not even MENTION Gaza, but instead talked about the warship USS Cole near to Lebanon and something internal about Egypt. She is terrible, a total apologist for Israel. I can’t figure her out, other than that she disgusts me. In fact, her bio does not say Palestinian, but Arab Israeli.
Iman Sabbah nata a Nazareth in Israele, araba israeliana.
here is her picture: http://telegiornaliste.freeforumzone.leonardo.it/discussione.aspx?idd=635271&p=4

This was a good post. I hate it when the media only covers one side of an issue. The people of Palestine are being murdered and the world is doing nothing.
The only U.S. candidate to mention Palestine is Nader. All the others give full support to Israel.
The world needs to learn that Israel is not our friend

I was going to post something similar to this. It is no surprise. Papers, news were more occupied with prince charming Harry than Gaza. All that really got mentioned was Israel’s right to defend it self with reasonable action! Reasonable?!?! Fighter jets against unarmed people! they dont show that on tv.

Actually on Saturday night CTV mentioned that children were killed.
Canada is slowly starting to report the truth. Even though it is a small report.
It is a start.

sorry Haitham but when i tuned in on Saudi and kuwaiti channels , there was no talk of Holocaust , it was the usual rubbish , as if everything is ok . A recipe on the saudi English , a program on heart disease on Arabic saudi , kuwaiti channel seems to devote most of its time to Dances Praising kuwait and the kuwaiti leaders , or comedies that involve too much screaming and they re not funny at all . why do i tune in to those channels , just to check what they are doing . and i end up feeling sick again . I Did it when Huda Ghallia lost ALL her family and the saudis were still dancing on thier channel and not bothered what happened to 12 years old Huda .
Algeria Hardly covered the holocaust bit , Moroccco did speak about it and moroccan had a demonstration in Rabat facing the Moroccan Parliament .
