During the U.S. presidential campaign, I thought the Obama administration would begin to focus U.S. Middle East policy on a more aggressive stance toward Russia and China. The reason I thought that was because Obama's chief foreign policy adviser, Zbigniew Brzezinski, has long advocated a continuing struggle against Russia and China for world U.S. hegemony, "Cold War" or not. Brzezinski was the principal architect of the Mujahideen resistance in Afghanistan against the Soviets, and used that resistance to attempt to weaken and destroy the Soviet Union, and many claim he was successful. I thought that because the neocons had "failed" in Iraq they were now discredited, and that the Brzezinski cabal of Russian-baiters was now ascendant. Obama's threat during the campaign that he would bomb northern Pakistan if their government refused to effectively strike at the "terrorists" in the northern tribal areas, and his apparent fulfilment of that threat in the first days of his administration made me think I was correct. Pakistan has had close ties with China, and has been trying to use that country as a transport hub for moving African and Middle Eastern oil to China. Fragmenting Pakistan through internal dissension and conflict, which has certainly resulted form the U.S. bombing of Pakistani "terrorist" hideouts, would remove that option for the Chinese, and so form part of Brzezinski's strategy against China, and ultimately Russia. It appears now, however, that the neocons, who Petras more accurately calls "ZioCons" because of their fanatical devotion to Israel over the interests of their own country, far from being discredited, are now more powerful than ever, as their strong presence in the Obama administration shows. One thing about all this is very clear, however. A U.S. or Israeli attack on Iran will be disastrous for Israel, for the United States, for Iran, and for the entire world, and may unleash a nuclear conflagration that will consume the whole world. It seems more than 4,500 dead Americans and 40,000 injured Americans and $800 Billions is not enough for the Zionist Jews.
