[...] Kalandia: A Checkpoint Story, directed by Neta Efrony, is about a contentious checkpoint on the road between East Jerusalem and Ramallah. The film is getting recognition through multiple film festivals and is distributed through here. The article that tipped me off to it is here. [...]

Though I write here as "Gazan," I was not born in Gaza. Yet, because of the suffering of the Palestinians in their own homeland at the hands of brutal invaders, the cold indifference of most people in the world to their plight, and their patient endurance of the unendurable, all those who love justice and seek righteousness are now Palestinians, for, as all the world's great religions teach, one is responsible to, and for, his neighbor. All humanity shares both the fate of the oppressed and the responsibility for their oppression, because we are all our brother's keeper. All the great religions also teach that God rejects the sacrifices and offerings of those who oppress and kill their neighbors. "First be reconciled with your brother," the Prophet Isaiah quotes God as saying, "then come and offer your sacrifice." Despite this, most of the religious people of the world blithely go about their daily, weekly religious observances, while their governments either ignore, condone, or commit horrendous atrocities against people of other faiths, nations and cultures. That is at the core of the atrocity we see played out every day in Palestine, and elsewhere, because the world still, despite the teachings of all religions, has not answered the question, "Who is my brother?" As long as we collectively fail to answer that question, oppression, injustice and genocide will stalk the world, until we immolate ourselves in a holocaust of self-destruction.

My God, it brings back memories - it breaks my heart! They herd the people together like cattle, no respect, no dignity (do they know this word at all??), no compassion - nothing. The people are objects for them ... just objects - not humans. I've been at Qalandia checkpoint many times ... before they built this fortress in form of high walls ect. ... I saw people waiting, wading through mud after rain - a chaos perfectly organized by an oppressor and accupier!! HUMILIATING, DISGRACEFUL!!

My heart goes out to the people ...
