Is Israel Plotting…or Stumbling toward…Mideast War?

by SR Editor June 15, 2011

Are the extremist leaders of Israel crazy enough to launch a regional war, using the specter of an eventual Iranian nuclear bomb as the excuse? Perhaps irrational, perhaps just coldly calculating their own personal, short-term interest. The recently retired chief of Mossad has just warned that they may be. But he has been supported by the other top Israeli spy chief (also recently retired and thus free to speak honestly to his country’s people). What do Israel’s intelligence chiefs know or suspect about the private calculations of the extremist (shall we, for simplicity, call them the “Israeli neo-con”???) faction whose bloody flag has brought it into power?

Israel Is Going to the Dogs

by SR Editor June 15, 2011

Israel has followed in the footsteps of the United States, using dogs to terrify Palestinian workers trying to get into Israel to find jobs. Victims of the dog attacks are not security suspects, but rather day laborers. Are occupation soldiers using Palestinian workers as guinea pigs, trying out the dogs in preparation for use on the upcoming flotilla to Gaza?

Lawfare: Israeli-AIPAC attack on the Gaza Freedom Flotilla

by SR Editor June 13, 2011

Instead of direct military “warfare,” the Israel, AIPAC and the Shurat HaDin Law Center, are using lawsuits filed against insurance and satellite telephone companies that may sell equipment to the flotilla organizers and against citizen activist groups that have raised funds to purchase ships as strategies to attempt to stop the flotilla.

by SR Editor June 11, 2011

While much of the Western media have ignored the recent bloodshed on the Golan Heights, the limited reports that have been released appear to misunderstand the background to the present confrontation. Richard Lightbown explains the history.

Pat Robertson: Muslims are the New Nazis

by SR Editor June 3, 2011

Pat Robertson once again spoke out against American Muslims, singling out the construction of mosques and the purported threat of creeping Sharia law. Robertson likened critics of Muslims to opponents of Nazis and rejected claims that his opposition to rights for Muslims is bigotry, asking, “I wonder what were people who opposed the Nazis, were they bigots?”

Israel’s Future

by SR Editor May 7, 2011

Ending the occupation doesn’t mean anything if it doesn’t mean upending the Jewish State itself. Democracy in Palestine/Israel and the realization of full human and political rights there for Palestinians means the end of Jewish privilege in my birth country.

As a Holocaust Survivor, AIPAC Does Not Speak For Me

by SR Editor May 7, 2011

Members of Congress will converge to hail AIPAC and Israel. It helps to keep the Middle East in a perpetual state of war. AIPAC pretends to speak for all Jews, but it certainly does not speak for me or other members of the Jewish community in this country.

Zionists Are Automatons

Large parts of the Jewish population don’t want to talk about the Palestinians. They cannot get out of their role of the victim. They have forgotten about Jewish ethics as laid down in the Golden Rule by Hillel, “What is hateful to you, do not do unto others.”

Questions About “Hamas-Fatah Reconciliation”

by SR Editor April 30, 2011

Notably neither Fatah Abbas nor Hamas have endorsed this campaign, and neither has articulated a realistic strategy aimed at restoring the rights of all Palestinians. The US position opposing Palestinian unity except on terms acceptable to Israel and the United States, has not softened. Given this, it’s very difficult to see this going very far.

Is Israel’s Rightwing in Eric Cantor’s District?

by SR Editor April 30, 2011

Cantor is listed on Maplight.org as the top recipient of campaign money from “pro-Israel” groups in the U.S. House of Representatives, having taken in over $200,000. These groups, most of them affiliated with AIPAC, dump tens of millions of dollars into U.S. elections each cycle. And they certainly appear to get what they pay for.

BREAKING NEWS: Israeli Embassy in Cairo Under Siege

by SR Editor April 9, 2011

Just when the Palestinians in Gaza thought they were facing this new Israeli attacks alone and with their backs against the wall, they found out they forgot, over the years, that they had brothers in Egypt who are willing not only to accompany them in their struggle against Israel but to protect their backs as well.

A mass mobilization of Palestinians to pressure Hamas and Fatah to end the four-year-long division. Rather than topple the governments, as was the goal with the uprisings in neighboring countries, demonstrators hope to be able to bring them together.
