- On November 8, Israeli tank shells killed at least 18 people in their sleep. Eight children are said to be among the dead. Of the 18 killed, 13 were from the same family and over 40 more were wounded in a residential attack on Beit Hanoun. According to witnesses at the scene all of the dead are women and children. The human cost of the attacks on Beit Hanoun have resulted in over 75 Palestinians killed in less than a week.

- On November 6, the international Red Cross condemned what they called a deliberate Israeli attack on clearly marked ambulance workers; the ICRC issued a statement saying that, "The International Committee of the Red Cross is appalled by this failure to protect personnel engaged in emergency medical duties. The individuals concerned and their means of transport were clearly marked with a distinctive emblem conferring the protection of the Geneva Conventions [on the conduct of warfare]," continued the same statement." Two paramedics were killed.

- On November 3, two Palestinian women who were taking part in non-violent protest were killed when Israeli Occupation Forces began shooting at a group of hundreds of women from Beit Hanoun. To watch video of the attack on unarmed women, click here.

- Call, Fax and Email your representatives today and ask them to stop supporting the indiscriminate slaughter of Palestinian women and children. Tell them that you expect this country to do what it must to stop the killings in Gaza. -Tell your representatives that you are outraged by the myriad international law and human rights violations that the Israelis have committed in the past week and that you are alarmed by reports that the attack on the Palestinian prison in Jericho was done in collusion with the United States and Britain. Tell your representatives that you believe Israel is deliberately provoking the Palestinians in order to get them to retaliate and then respond by causing massive causalities to Palestinians in the Occupied Territories. Tell your representatives that you are outraged that your government is assisting the Israeli occupation forces instead of demanding that they cease all attacks on Palestinians.

-Tell your representatives that Ahmad Sa'adat is a political prisoner who has been detained without charges for four years in violation of Palestinian and International law. In 2002, the Palestinian High Court of Justice in Gaza ordered that Ahmad Sa'adat be released immediately as there was no evidence connecting him to the crime of which he was accused and Amnesty International found the proceedings which convicted the accused, grossly unfair.

-Tell your representatives that you believe their silence in the face of Israeli aggression is tacit approval of the brutal tactics that Israel is employing against the Palestinians. In the last week Israel has vowed to continue to steal land in the West Bank and in fact has begun construction to connect West Bank settlements to Jerusalem. Thousands of acres of land have been illegally transferred to settlements and army bases in the area while the U.S. government remains quiet. The U.S. has not responded to a single Israeli attack or provocation and instead has continued to repeat the same tired refrain, that Hamas "must recognize Israel." Ask your representatives when they will begin demanding that Israel recognize international and humanitarian law and begin apply it to the Palestinians.

*According to the UNHCR, twenty-four Palestinian refugees from Baghdad, have been stranded at the Al-Walid border crossing between Iraq and Syria since October 5. Those stranded include children, women and two semi-paralyzed men, who have been displaced once more without intervention from the international community. While Palestinian refugees in Iraq were not allowed to have land or become Iraqi citizens in the past, most benefited from subsidized housing and free education. Please take a moment and write to your representatives asking that they intervene and put an end to violence against Palestinian refugees in Iraq. As an occupying power the United States has a responsibility under the Geneva Conventions to protect Palestinian civilians from human rights abuses. * The International Atomic Energy Agency and it's Director, Mohammed Elbaradei have just been jointly awarded the 2005 Nobel Peace Prize on Friday for their drive to curb the spread of atomic weapons. Mohammed Elbaradei has repeatedly called for a nuclear-free Mideast which would include Israel supporting the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. Elbaradei has stated in the past that he does not have the power to pressure the Israeli government on the nuclear issue," but that he hoped Israel would open up its atomic sites to international inspections. Elbaradei has repeatedly condemned the imbalance of the region with Israel sitting on nuclear weapons and everybody else trying to stick to the nonproliferation Treaty. He has also raised the idea of the IAEA sending inspectors to monitor Israel's nuclear activities, something that Israel says it will not permit to happen.

* Remind your representatives that they supported the war against Iraq despite the fact that there was no concrete evidence that Saddam had a weapon's program; but that Washington's policy has been to repeatedly prevent any discussion of Israel's nuclear weapons at the UN. Tell your representatives that these racist double standards do nothing to stem anti-American sentiments in the world and that they only affirm that Washington has one set of standards for Israelis and another for Muslims and Arabs.

* Ask your elected officials to support legislation that would call for an investigation of Israeli's nuclear arsenal and for immediate sanctions against Israel for its repeated flouting of international law and U.N. resolutions. Ask your representatives to invite Dr. Mordechai Vanunu to testify before the Senate. Mordechai Vanunu is a former Israeli nuclear technician, who was released from prison last year after completing an 18-year sentence in Israel's Ashkelon Prison, for blowing the whistle on Israel's secret nuclear weapons program. He was kidnapped by Israeli agents on September 30, 1986, and spent more than 11 years in solitary confinement

* Remind your representatives that they have an obligation to promote and protect American interests. Waging war against Arab countries while rewarding Israeli intransigence does not promote our interests in the Middle East and only works to strengthen the argument that a U.S./Israeli plan to redevelop the Middle East is being played out.

CFL ALERT: ISRAEL PREPARING TO ILLEGALLY APPROPRIATE MORE PALESTINIAN LAND BY CONNECTING SETTLEMENTS IN THE WEST BANK TO JERUSALEM; ASK YOUR REPS TO SUPPORT THE ONE STATE SOLUTION.

TALKING POINTS:
*Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon pledged on Monday, September 19, to connect the Ma'aleh Adumim settlement (colony) to Jerusalem. The Sharon government has indicated that they have Washington's permission to continue to build on illegally occupied Palestinian land. Please take a moment to remind your elected officials that UN Resolution 252 calls on Israel to rescind all measures that change the legal status of Jerusalem, including the expropriation of land and properties thereon and that Israel stop taking measures to unify Jerusalem as the "Jewish capital". The current plan to extend Ma'aleh Adumin to Jerusalem shows that the disengagement from Gaza was nothing but a plan to steal more Palestinian land in the West Bank.

* Ask your representatives to clarify statements made by Sharon. If in fact the U.S. is supporting the continued occupation of Palestinian land, please ask your representatives to officially abandon the roadmap as U.S. sanctioned settlement expansion contradicts the possibility of a viable Palestinian state alongside Israel.

*Ask your representatives to support the one state solution with equal rights for Palestinians and Jews as well as the right of return for Palestinian refugees. Tell your representatives that if they support the right of Israelis to continue to steal Palestinian land, that they should also support the internationally recognized right of return of Palestinians inside of Israel (portion occupied in 1948).

*Tell your representatives that as an American you can only support one democratic state with equal social and human rights for Palestinians and Israelis. A true democracy respects the rights of each citizen equally. Historic Palestine now has 6 million Jews and over 5 million original Palestinian inhabitants (with many million more living along the borders as refugees). If the U.S. expects all different ethnic and religious groups in Iraq to live together in one unified democratic nation, there is no reason for this government not to demand that Israel do the same and offer citizenship to
Palestinians in their own country.

CFL ALERT: APARTHEID WALL TO STRANGLE OVER 100,000 PALESTINIANS IN ARAB-EAST JERUSALEM. TELL YOUR OFFICIALS THAT YOU ARE OUTRAGED BY THIS BLATANT ATTEMPT TO ETHNICALLY CLEANSE PALESTINIANS FROM ARAB-JERUSALEM.

TALKING POINTS:
*Javier Solana, who just arrived in the region for talks with Israelis and Palestinians, said that the European Union opposed the recent Israeli land grab in Jerusalem, saying, "We think that Israel has the right to defend itself, but we think that the fence which will stand outside the territory of Israel is not legally proper and it creates also humanitarian problems." Solana also reminded Israel that Jerusalem is holy to Christians and Muslims, not just for Jews.

Palestinians will be cut off from jobs, schools, hospitals and family in Jerusalem and surrounding areas.

MK Yossi Sarid (Meretz-Yahad) said that "the government decision proves again that the occupation can't be swallowed, but nor can it be spit out. The occupation is stuck like a bone in Israel's throat and is strangling it."

MK Azmi Bshara (Balad) said that the government decision slices through neighborhoods and communities in Jerusalem as if no people were involved, only paper and a ruler. He said that talk of gates and openings and services on the other side of the fence was hypocrisy.

*PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas harshly attacked the plan and said the PA would not accept it. Abbas, who returned to Ramallah from a visit to Syria and Lebanon, said that "approving the fence route in Jerusalem could bring about the end of relations between the two sides. Such steps will not serve peace, nor will they serve Israel's security."

*Ask your representatives to condemn Israeli attempts to ethnically cleanse Palestinians from the region and tell your representatives that you are opposed to a single dollar being sent to a regime bent on violating international law and human rights.

*Tell the President that you are tired of having your hard earned tax dollars manipulated by the Israeli apartheid regime and used to subjugate millions of Palestinians. Ask your representatives how far they will go in their support of apartheid. Remind your representatives that the expansion of Israel's apartheid wall into Arab-East Jerusalem is illegal and in violation of several UN Resolutions including UN Resolution 252 which calls on Israel to stop taking measures that unify Jerusalem as the Jewish capital.
