Ugly Israeli Realities Emerge

by Stephen Lendman December 19, 2011

Haaretz obtained parts of “a classified working paper produced by European embassies in Israel….”

The “unprecedented document” addresses internal Israeli issues. It was written without Israel’s knowledge. It also covers Israeli peace process intransigency, its self-characterization as a Jewish, democratic state, and how it treats its Arab population.

The Jews Go To War (With Themselves)

by Lawrence Davidson December 17, 2011

The settlers don’t give a damn about international opinion – no more than does al-Qaeda, to which they have an unsavory resemblance. Led “by fundamentalist religious leaders who do not recognize the state of Israel and its laws,” they are driven by religious fanaticism and have no respect for governments or their agents. It is their ideological conviction that all of Palestine (including, by the way, Jordan) must be Jewish as soon as possible.

Israeli Democracy Fades To Black

by Lawrence Davidson December 3, 2011

Just in the past few weeks the Knesset has spat out a number of bills aimed at restricting the voices of Jewish opponents and to make it more difficult for them to secure appointed offices. Part of a continuing line of similar legislation, these new potential laws represent scenes in the final act of this tragedy.

Israeli media paving the way for an attack on Iran

by SR Editor November 19, 2011

Neve Gordon argues that while the Israeli media frenzy supporting an attack on Iran may be orchestrated to pressure the international community to impose harsher sanctions against Iran, it is nonetheless helping to produce the necessary conditions for a military campaign.

‘Jewish state’ means Jewish fascism

by Khalid Amayreh July 19, 2011

New U.S. formula: Palestinian recognition of the “Jewishness” of Israel in exchange for an American endorsement of a Palestinian “state” on unspecific parts of the West Bank and few scattered neighborhoods of occupied East Jerusalem.

Israel adopts laws targeting Arab citizens and criminalizing boycott of Jewish settlements

by Uri Avnery March 28, 2011

Uri Avnery views three laws recently adopted by the Israeli parliament: “two obnoxious racist laws… clearly directed against Israel’s Arab citizens”, and a third law that will punish “any person or association publicly calling for a boycott of Israel” or the illegal Jewish settlements.

Who is Embarrassing the United Nations?

Israeli officials found Falk’s statement highly insulting. Soon after the Rapporteur made his presentation to the Human Rights Council, Israel’s envoy to the UN mission in Geneva, Aharon LeshnoYaar, labeled Falk an “embarrassment to the United Nations.”

Eroding Conditions for Israeli Arabs

by Stephen Lendman November 13, 2010

Israel governs mirror opposite, disdaining anyone not Jewish, largely denying them any rights, while increasing harsh levels of persecution, especially against unwanted Arabs. As a result, today’s reality is lawless discrimination, at times erupting in violence, injuries and deaths.

Arab citizens are increasingly persecuted because Israel won’t “hesitate to employ lethal violence against” them on any pretext or none whatever. With no accountability or prosecutions, Muslims are unsafe, knowing their government is the enemy, not protector of their rights.

Western media frightened of the “F” word in its Israeli context

by Alan Hart November 12, 2010

As Misgav noted, there are scholars who are warning against using the term “fascism” too lightly and cheapening it. Tel Aviv University Professor Yossi Shain was quoted as saying, “The question is whether a threat to democracy exists.” As Einstein observed all those years ago, the American public “must” be informed about what is really happening in Israel. But there’s no chance that it will be as long as the mainstream media is unwilling to give voice to those Israeli Jews who can see fascism coming.

Weimar in Jerusalem: the rise of fascism in Israel

by Uri Avnery October 23, 2010

Yitzhak Herzog, the minister of welfare in the Netanyahu government, a member of the Labour party, the grandson of a chief rabbi and the son of a president, said a few days ago that “fascism is touching the margins of our society”. He was wrong: fascism is not only touching the margins, it is touching the government in which he is serving, and the Knesset, of which he is a member.

The Israeli Knesset’s Anti-Democratic Agenda

by Stephen Lendman October 18, 2010

In sum, it represents extremist efforts to weaken Israeli democracy, or what passes for its current system, by destroying civil liberties, silencing minority views, and characterizing groups holding them as state enemies. In fact, “We are witnessing a reality of increasing tyranny against social, political, and national minorities, which harms their” rights and everyone’s. Perhaps more disturbing is that surveys of the past two years show public support, mainly among Israeli youths.

Time for New Palestinian Political Strategy

by Dr. Elias Akleh October 12, 2010

There is a dire need for an immediate new more assertive Palestinian political strategy. There is an urgent need for a new more effective Palestinian election, involving not only Palestinians under Israeli occupation, but also Palestinians in all Palestinian refugee camps and in exile, to choose a more representing political body, who would sincerely and assertively fight for the Palestinian rights on the international arena. The 17 years old Palestinian negotiating team with its futile negotiate-only mindset needs to be dismantled and be replaced with another team who is ready to negotiate only after Israel withdraws back to 1967 borders. The effectiveness of this new Palestinian body depends on the Arab League re-instating the Palestinian issue as the major Arab cause in totality and to support Palestinians in every form of resistance.

by Stephen Lendman October 12, 2010

Israel’s direction mirror’s 1930s Germany, especially under a Netanyahu/Lieberman/Shas coalition and most extremist ever Knesset, flouting democratic freedoms one law or edict at a time. Lieberman and other extremists called the new measure a first step to loyalty legislation they want enacted as well as other anti-democratic laws to be considered in the Knesset’s winter session. A forthcoming article addresses them.

What Obama Hasn’t Changed About the Mid East Peace Process

by Maggie Sager October 6, 2010

The Present: In the midst of Operation Cast Lead, which killed more than 1,400 Palestinians and lead to accusations of war crimes and crimes against humanity by the Goldstone Report, on January 16th, 2009, Congressed signed a Memorandum of Understanding essentially endorsing the operation and pledging unconditional support for the State of Israel. While vocal on a number of policy issues before his inauguration, Obama said nothing of this development, and has yet to negatively address the MOU.
