Liberation is very different from independence, because our right to self-determination must lead to the right of return and full equality for all inhabitants of the state of Palestine.
The two-state solution is a racist dogma that cannot guarantee all the rights; withdrawal of Israeli troops from the Arab lands occupied in 1967; implementation of UN resolution 194; and an end to Israel’s apartheid policies against Palestinian citizens of the state of Israel.
In my view, these seemingly disparate occurrences are all expressions of the moral arrogance of the modern liberal state, and its failure to strike a decent balance between freedom and security. There is no doubt that the recent challenges posed by extremist non-state actors do require adjustments in how government protects those resident within its borders, but the tendency to exaggerate the threat so as to instill sufficient fear in the population to justify the wide spectrum of responses that feature high defense spending, Guantanamo and Abu Ghraib at one end and Snowden and Manning at the other end is what should be an occasion for an entirely rational collective panic attack in democratic societies.
On RAI with Paul Jay, Chris Hedges discusses the psychology of the super rich; their sense of entitlement, the dehumanization of workers, and mistaken belief that their wealth will insulate them from the coming storms – December 5, 13

PAUL JAY, SENIOR EDITOR, TRNN: Welcome to The Real News Network. I’m Paul Jay in Baltimore. And welcome to Reality Asserts Itself.
A few weeks ago, we did a series of interviews with Chris Hedges, and one of the things we talked about was the weakness of the left, the weakness of the people’s movement, if you will. Well, we’re going to continue that discussion now. And Chris joins us again in the studio.
Chris, as everyone probably knows by now, is a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and a senior fellow at the Nation Institute. Along with Joe Sacco he wrote the New York Times bestseller Days of Destruction, Days of Revolt. And he writes a weekly column for Truthdig.
Thanks for joining us.
Whenever Israel’s supporters today speak of a “special relationship” with the US that is supposedly graven in stone, it is useful to remember that something very different existed when Israel came into existence in 1948 on the gutted carcass of Palestine. The US recognized Israel, but that was about it. Hollywood was (and remains) largely a Jewish preserve, but their level of influence elsewhere – in the government, the media and academia – was limited. Prominent American Jews felt no obligation to endorse Israel or Israeli leaders, no matter what happened. Dozens (including Albert Einstein) signed a letter published in the New York Times in 1948 protesting the arrival of Menachem Begin and condemning his actions. And the general American public was largely indifferent to what happened in the Middle East.
Lawrence Davidson analyses the conditions that have led to the institutionalization of abuse of power, including the creation and rationalization of criminal conspiracies, by US presidents sworn to uphold the law.
Those who are of good conscience must consider these things, whether they be so. And find for themselves whether wisdom excelleth folly, as far as light excelleth darkness or is it better to have a mind positioned in nothingness? Political realities are issues of the heart of leadership and although prayer changes things. Change must begin in our own hearts and wisdom manifests within the spirit of our minds. Where regard is rendered unto knowing that through wisdom is an house builded; and by understanding it is established: Wherewith, by knowledge shall the chambers be filled with all precious and pleasant riches. Then, let us all learn from a truth, “Through desire a man, having separated himself, seeketh and intermeddleth with the spirit of all wisdom.” From such a place shall we not be made free indeed?
Hillary Clinton represents the worst of imperial arrogance. She supports the worst of Israeli lawlessness. She was one of the largest recipients of defense contractor cash. She backed war on Afghanistan and Iraq. She opposed a Democrat resolution. She supported restriction-free nuclear cooperation with Israel and other US allies violating NPT provisions. She endorsed nuclear weapons use in Afghanistan and Pakistan. She calls them deterrents that “keep the peace.
American progress is, has been, constructed on abuse and contempt for the sovereignty of other nations and their people and is thereby racist. American peace, American liberty, American freedom, and the ruthless pursuit of happiness for American citizens is the dream, but the manifest truth is, that American citizens are facing social meltdown and immizeration at home as their military and intelligence agencies kill abroad for profit. This America we hold to be self evident. “The idea of rights is nothing but the concept of virtue applied to the world of politics. By means of the idea of rights men have defined the nature of licence and of tyranny … no man can be great without virtue, nor any nation great without the respects for rights.” (Alexis de Tocqueville, Democracy in America 1991:219). This America must be your manifest duty to understand. How can you export American Democracy to a distrusting world when “you have no product?” (Cindy Sheehan).
The lens of reality is not one used by mainstream American media, unfortunately, and so the Palestinian internment progresses largely unchecked. At the end of the day the Israelis will go on governing themselves. What’s worse is that Netanyahu will be forced, as usual, to form a coalition within the Knesset and will likely align with the ultraconservative rather than move to the center. Palestinians live without autonomy in a land that was originally theirs, ever heard this storyline before?
In effect, Hagel imbibed, adopted, and swallowed Israel’s laundry list of demands. NOTHING BUT ISRAEL is the concern of Jewish Americans in and out of government, the rest of the world can go to hell. Hagel lost and sold his soul, honor, dignity, self respect, courage, and principles to a powerful minority to secure a government job.
The institutionalization of tyranny is the achievement of the Bush/Obama regimes of the 21st century. This, and not the Great Society, is the decisive break from the American tradition. The Bush Republicans demolished almost all of the constitutional protections of liberty erected by the Founding Fathers. The Obama Democrats codified Bush’s dismantling of the Constitution and removed the protection afforded to citizens from being murdered by the government without due process.
The whole US was shocked when armed with automatic assault weapons 20 years old Adam Lanza murdered 20 first grade students in Newtown, Connecticut, yet very few, if any, Americans get shocked when their presidents murder thousands of similar children of other nations but call them heroes and defenders of freedom and democracy.
Several targeted countries in the Middle East, Africa and Asia, are categorized as “failed states”. The central question is: who is failing the failed states? Who is “Taking them Out”?
It is part of a covert United States military and intelligence agenda. Destroying countries is part of a US Imperial project, a process of global domination.
Mr. President, it is shocking, bewildering, incredulous, and tragically disappointing that American citizens should have to resort to a petition asking you to serve America’s national interest by nominating the incredibly qualified Senator Chuck Hagel for Secretary of Defense and, for once, stand up to Israel and its Jewish cabal and lobbies, such as AIPAC, ADL, and the American Jewish Committee, who are smearing and assaulting an honorable American to pressure you to withdraw him from consideration as has been reported in Israel.
“John Kerry will never do anything to compromise (Israel’s) security.” He’s committed to a “special relationship.” His support for Israel is “unwavering.” He always believed that America “must stand solidly behind Israel at the UN and other international organizations.” He favors moving America’s embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. He’s “Israel’s Man at State.”
Obama’s decision, expected very soon, about whether or not to nominate Hagel will give us the first significant indication since his re-election of whether or not he is going to continue to dance to Zionism’s tune or, as Hagel might put it, continue to be intimidated by its lobby.
I would like to see your tears, Obama, also for another citizen of your country, a kid named Abdulrahman al-Awlaki, who was killed by your illegitimate orders. Until then, you and your government are outliers. Blessed be the victims, may God have mercy on their souls.
The misery and torment that befell Newton can be multiplied a thousand fold across the Arab world. American policy and actions have resulted in the deaths (i.e. murder) of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands, of innocent children. The deaths of these children can be considered as war crimes and a crime against humanity of the highest order. They should shock and outrage us, compelling us to demand an immediate change in American foreign policy.
Human dignity for the Palestinian people is in the hands of the world in 2013. Barack Obama knows that he and his nation play an essential role in delivering that dignity to the Palestinian people. Benign neglect will not be his policy.
Charges that the war crimes includes torture, enforced disappearances, assassinations, murders, kidnappings, extraordinary renditions, ‘shock and awe’ (bombings), and (the use of) depleted uranium, white phosphorus, cluster bombs, drone strikes, and the like.
95% of the entire world rebuked and expressed their long held anger against U.S. and Israel. The world is slowly finding its voice, its courage, its humanitarian conscience to tell Israel and the U.S.: “Enough is Enough” of your murderous atrocities, ethnic cleansing, and theft and illegal occupation of a nation—Palestine.
No longer can it run to the US veto to maintain impunity in crime, no longer must the people of Palestine be ignored, no longer can this world body live with the lies, the distortions, the deceit used by the Jewish nation to control all the peoples of the earth.
It’s the entire planet on one side, versus the US, its new right-wing poodle to the north, Israel, and three tiny, bribed islands on the other side.
Prof. Boyle – Arafat and PA Legal Advisor – says: “Palestinians will start a “legal intifada” against Israel, supported by international law. I have already recommended to them, over in Ramallah.”
There is a complete imbalance of power between Israel and the Palestinians. Israel is the only party between the river and the sea which is able, through the use of unchecked force, to alter the physical landscape by building and expanding settlements, supported unjustly by United States.
Obama orders land, sea and air invasion of israel. Us sixth fleet wiped out by israeli planes, ships and subs. Israeli amphibious assault on washington dc successful. Israeli flag flies over the us capitol building.
Sixty-five years after the United Nations declared its creation, Palestine has achieved the world body’s recognition it long deserves. It has been a long and arduous way. Yet, finally, Palestine has returned home.
On his big day Abbas said “It is time to move forward – that is why we are here today.” The way forward is already set out by international law and numerous UN resolutions, which are still waiting to be implemented. Therein lies justice.
USA (4.5% of the world’s population) spent 41% of the world’s expenses in military, China (19.2% of the world’s population) spent just 8%. Most Americans can not understand the real picture anymore.
Iran sanctions now causing food insecurity, mass suffering. Yet again, the US and its allies spread mass human misery, morally indefensible and counterproductive.
