The Washington – “Moderate Islam” Alliance: Containing Rebellion Defending Empire

by James Petras December 16, 2011

The West have agreed to a kind of “power-sharing’ with Islamist parties. The Islamists would be responsible for imposing orthodox economic policies and re-establishing ‘order’ in partnership with pro-multinational bank economists and pro US-EU generals and security officials. In exchange the Islamists could take certain ministries, appoint their members, finance electoral clientele among the poor and push their ‘moderate’ religious, social and cultural agenda.

Something Rotten This Way Comes

by Philip Giraldi June 24, 2011

There were two stories last week that illustrate just how bad the situation has become in the wake of the virtual capitulation by President Barack Obama during Netanyahu’s triumphal May visit to Washington, the first time in recorded history that a small nation with less than eight million citizens has subjugated a much larger country with a population of more than 310 million.

There is no doubt that Julian Assange and Bradley Manning suffering constitutes a message that if you inform the public of what the United States government is doing, our police and intelligence agencies will track you down and turn your life into hell.

Our Multiple Realities Mess

The resolution had over120 cosponsors (just about the entire non-Western world) and the support of every other member of the Security Council. The only thing wrong with it was that it singled out the Israelis as the culprits and was thus anathema to the politicians in Washington. For the Obama administration, it was a supremely embarrassing moment.

Obama, The Veto and Impeachment

by Alan Hart February 20, 2011

Never before has an American President’s fear of offending the Zionist lobby and its stooges in Congress been so exposed as it was by Obama’s decision to veto the Security Council resolution condemning continued, illegal Israeli settlement activities on the occupied West Bank and demanding that Israel “immediately and completely cease” all such activities. In a different America – an informed America – some might think, I do, that Obama should be impeached. The charge? TREASON.

On February 18, as expected, Washington vetoed a UN Security Council resolution condemning Israeli settlements as illegal under international law. The vote: 14 yes, America the sole no, isolating the US and Israel on this long festering issue. The measure had nearly 120 co-sponsors.

For the moment, however, huge Tahrir Square crowds erupted in celebratory euphoria, perhaps forgetting their liberating struggle just began. It didn’t end with Mubarak’s resignation. That was a baby step, removing an aging dinosaur Washington and Egypt’s military wanted out. Now he’s gone. Focus must follow through on what’s next, requiring sustained popular protests. Otherwise, everything gained will be lost.

Washington and Israel especially remain deeply hostile to Arab nationalism and attempts to unify Arabs politically. Their goal, in fact, is divide, conquer and control, redrawing the Middle East to suit imperial, not Arab interests. They thrive on Arab fragmentation, collective inaction, and military and economic weakness.

Mubarak’s Thirty-Year Dictatorship

Egypt’s brutal police enforced hardline control, targeting activists, dissidents, Islamists, opposition forces, and anyone perceived threatening as well as ordinary citizens suspected of crimes or looking suspicious. In June 2010, a young man, Khaled Said, was beaten to death for not showing his identity card after entering an Alexandria Internet cafe. Torture and disappearances are also commonplace as are sham elections.

Wholesale Treason, Why Israel Bought Congress

by Gordon Duff November 14, 2010

It isn’t a “Jewish thing,” AIPAC got rid of 6 Jews who were too “pro-American” for their tastes. The last thing it is about is the security of Israel, a regional bully, a small land of ICBMs, germ warfare labs and warehouses loaded with American munitions which they sell around the world. Israel and its thuggish “American” lobby terrifies a lot of people, congress, journalists certainly and as Noam Chomsky continually points out, its own citizens.

There is a real threat against Israel, one they perceive but many Americans are unaware of yet. Israel is terrified of a new 9/11 investigation. Even Noam Chomsky, top critic of many Israeli policies, had always stopped short of debunking 9/11. He was their last line of defense, Chomsky and Jon Stewart, pseudo-progressive “hand puppet.”
